Simone: Conoscendolo bene però il Signor Crezzi non è così esigente come capo. E’ solo un po’ troppo dedito al lavoro.

Wendy: Sarà.. comunque, devo dire che Como mi ha piacevolmente colpita. Il centro storico è incantevole e il lungolago molto romantico.

Sofia: Ed è anche una cittadina molto pulita.

Simone: Secondo me però vivendoci per qualche tempo sarebbe un po’ noioso. Meglio abitare a Milano e venire qui di quanto in quanto per il weekend.

Sofia: Exactly! In spite of our boss, who would also make us work on the weekends.

Simone: When you get to know him well, Mr. Crezzi is not very demanding as a boss. He's just a bit too devoted to his job.

Wendy: Maybe... Anyway, I have to say that Como has positively struck me. The historical city center is charming, and the lakeside is very romantic.

Alcuni piatti tipici di Verona

Gli gnocchi

È il piatto più diffuso in provincia. La sua origine si fa risalire al XVI secolo, quando, secondo la tradizione, agli abitanti del quartiere di San Zeno veniva offerto questo piatto sulla “piera del gnoco”, un tavolone di pietra che oggi si trova nel giardino della basilica accanto al busto di Tommaso da Vico. Gli gnocchi si ottengono amalgamando farina, patate lessate e schiacciate, uova e sale, quindi vengono fatti scorrere su una grattugia per ottenere i piccoli solchi che hanno la funzione di accogliere i sughi che ad essi si accompagnano: burro fuso, ragù, pomodoro.

Tortellini

I Tortellini di Valeggio sono da sempre il prodotto tipico sinonimo di Valeggio sul Mincio, tanto che qualcuno vorrebbe fosse nato proprio qui. Valeggiano o meno è certo che qui il tortellino ha assunto caratteristiche tali da differenziarlo ripiene dai tortellini della tradizione lombarda ed emiliana. Il ripieno tradizionale è di carne di maiale, ma non è raro trovare varianti con verdure e formaggi. La tradizione vuole che il tortellino venga servito in brodo, sebbene gli chefs italiani tendano a personalizzare il condimento adatto ai tortellini, ricercando i sughi più appropriati per evidenziare le qualità dei “nidi d’amore” (questo è il soprannome amorevole che gli abitanti di Valeggio danno ai tortellini).

Lesso con la pearà

Lesso con la pearà. Era un tempo il piatto delle grandi feste, come Natale e capodanno. Caduto in disgrazia negli anni del boom economico, ora i veronesi lo stanno riscoprendo ed è tornato ad essere uno dei piatti forti della tradizione gastronomica scaligera. Il lesso contiene una combinazione di diverse carni bollite (manzo, vitello e pollo), lingua salmistrata e cotechino (un tipo di salsiccia piccante italiana). La pearà è una salsa che contiene pane grattugiato, brodo, midollo di bue a pepe, il quale dà al piatto il suo caratteristico gusto piccante. Altra salsa che veniva accompagnata alle carni bollite è il cren (oggi piuttosto difficile da trovare). Il cren è una salsa molto piccante, preparata con la radice grattugiata del rafano e aceto.

Some typical dishes of Verona

Gnocchi

This is the most widespread course in Verona’s countryside. Its origin is to be traced back to the sixteenth century when, according to the tradition, this course was offered to the inhabitants of St. Zeno neighborhood. The gnocchi were put on pier del gnocco (gnocco’s rock), a slab nowadays kept in the basilica garden, next to Tommaso da Vico’s bust. Gnocchi are prepared mixing flour, meshed potatoes, eggs and salt. The gnocchi are then grated in order to obtain tiny wrinkles, which serve the purpose of keeping the diverse gnocchi sauces: melted butter, ragù and tomatoes sauce.

Tortellini

The tortellini di Valeggio (Valeggio tortellini) have always been the distinctive product of Valeggio sul Mincio (a small, beautiful town on Mincio’s bank), to the extent that someone believes this course was originally invented there. Whether it was originally produced in Valeggio or not, it was here that it took such characteristics, which differentiate it from the tortellini made in Lombardia and Emilia Romagna regions. The traditional stuffing is pork meat, though it’s not uncommon to find variants, such as vegetables and cheese. The tradition claims the tortellini have to be served in broth, though Italian chefs tend to personalize the tortellini proper dressing, seeking the most appropriate sauces to heighten the qualities of the “love nests” (that is the affective nickname the inhabitants of Valeggio sul Mi [...]
