Hotelul de Gheață de la Bâlea a fost primul hotel de gheață din România și din Europa de Sud-Est.

Este situat în Masivul Făgăraș din Munții Carpați, la o altitudine de aproximativ 2.034 de metri.

Hotelul este reconstruit în fiecare an, utilizându-se blocuri de gheață de peste un metru lungime, tăiate din Lacul Bâlea, înghețat complet.

În fiecare an, când hotelul este reconstruit, i se dă un nou design și o nouă aranjare.

Toate camerele au paturi de gheață și sunt acoperite cu blănuri și cearceafuri.

Camerele au, de asemenea, și saci de dormit.

În cei mai mulți ani, Hotelul de Gheață a avut zece până la paisprezece camere pentru oaspeții care vin de peste tot din lume, doar pentru experiența de a locui acolo.

Escapada de a locui peste noapte la hotel nu este pentru oameni care se zgribulesc de frig repede, deoarece temperatura medie în interior este de aproximativ patru grade sub zero Celsius.

Desigur, cele mai populare activități pentru vizitatorii hotelului sunt mersul cu rachetele de zăpadă, mersul cu snowmobil-ul, sculptura în gheață, patinajul și săniușul.

The Hotel of Ice in Balea was Romania's and Southeast Europe's very first ice hotel.

It's located in the Fagaras massif in the Carpathian Mountain range at an altitude of approximately 2,034 meters.

The hotel is rebuilt every year employing ice blocks that are four feet in length and pared from the gelid, frozen-over Balea Lake.

Every year when the Hotel of Ice is rebuilt, it's given a new layout and design.

All of the rooms feature ice beds that have mattresses and are covered with fur and sheets.

The rooms also have sleeping bags.

Most years the Hotel of Ice has about ten to fourteen rooms for sojourners who travel from around the world just for the experience of staying there.

The escapade of staying overnight at the hotel is not for people who get cold easily, as the average temperature inside is approximately four degrees below zero, Celsius.

Over the years, the builders have added other features to the hotel, like an ice lounge, an ice restaurant, and a bar.

Of course all the tables, chairs, and other fixtures inside the restaurant and bar are hewn from ice.

Even the food is served on ice places.

The 2009 – 2010 season was the first year when the hotel's operators built a bar, and they also included an esplanade which featured ice sculptures.

There is also an Ice Church next door, which allows couples to get married or celebrate their anniversaries.

The church also conducts baptisms.

Of course the most popular activities for the hotel's patrons are snowshoeing, snowmobiling, ice sculpting, ice skating, and sledding.
