This week is a quick little mini episode but one worth hearing. I get into how to move on when others show you that you don't matter to them as much as they have mattered to you. It's ok to be disappointed, hurt, or even angry. Feel the feels. Just remember to lean into the people that have shown you that you matter. Know that you are loved. Let the others just go on to live their lives.

This week I get into a situation with some family members. They were arguing about something really didn't mean much but at the root of the argument was so much more. Sometimes years of resentment can fester for so long then one little can blow it up. I've learned by taking a step back, you have a chance to take an assessment of what's really going on so you know how to communicate how you feel.

There are so many aspects to consider when you are with a partner who has children from another relationship. How well do you get along with the other parent? Does the biological parent help set the tone for the relationship? How much do you get involved in their dynamic? How do you navigate when you are entering a family and you have your own set of beliefs?
How has your experience been being a step parent? Or if you have a step parent how has your relationship been with them? Did your biological parent encourage you all to foster a relationship?

This week is a conversation I have with my best friend, Natasha, about going to therapy. This is a topic near and dear to both of us. We both started our journey in therapy in 2020. I started due to trying to navigate life having a blended family and she having to deal with corporate America. As Black women we often can feel we are expected to carry the weight of the world while simultaneously getting blamed for all the problems. We share when we realized we needed to go and how it has helped us to continue to get through life. We have found that even when nothing major is going on in our lives, it still helps having an unbiased "sounding board" to confide in.

This week I get into stories of when I had to speak up for myself. I'm not a very confrontational person; however, I will show up for myself when I feel like I have been disrespected. It doesn't always mean there needs to be a big blow up fight. You can do so being as calm as you need to be in order to get your point across.

Besides a healthy eating plan and exercise, stress management can also aide in losing weight. Having cortisol (stress hormone) out of balance can be a huge factor in not dropping the extra weight. So this is one of the ways I am trying to holistically get back to my ideal size. In this episode I share a few things I am doing to manage my stress.
I'd love to hear how you manage stress, please share with me at www.instagram.com/beingshannondora or email at [email protected]. Also, don't forget to rate, review, and subscribe.
