When it comes to the evolution of house music, few names loom as large as Ralphi Rosario. A founding member of Chicago's trailblazing DJ collective, Hot Mix 5, Rosario helped lay the groundwork for the house music movement while he was still in high school. By 1987, his collaboration with Xaviera Gold on "You Used To Hold Me" had already secured its place as one of the seminal tracks in house music history—a catalyst for seismic shifts on dancefloors everywhere.

Rosario's creative path took a transformative turn in the nineties when he teamed up with Miami's DJ Abel Aguilera to create Rosabel—a portmanteau of Rosario's surname and Abel's first name. This new venture marked Rosario's evolution from classic house to a more tribal, Latin-infused sound—a stylistic pivot he has honed to near-perfection over the years. As Rosabel, they layered their heritage and various musical influences into electrifying house tracks that became anthems for major artists.

The duo's credentials are impressive, to say the least, racking up five #1 Billboard Dance Club hits. On his own, Rosario has amassed fourteen Top Ten Dance Club hits and two chart-toppers. And let's not even get into his epic list of remixes, which features the crème de la crème of the music industry—from Madonna and Beyoncé to Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande. The overwhelming majority of these artists have already found their way into our Diva Hall of Fame, a testament to Rosario's influence.

Selecting from a staggering 60-plus hours of tracks was a monumental task. I aimed for the most iconic, diva-centric tracks, embracing both the nineties and the new millennium, and including some underground gems that have been queer club mainstays. The final result? Three exhilarating sets amounting to more than 8 hours of sonic bliss, capturing just a fraction of Rosario's immense catalog.

These compilations don't claim to encapsulate Rosario's entire career, but they're a sublime starting point. It's a celebration of a music maestro who has shaped the house music landscape for the past four decades.

So, it's with immense pride and honor that we welcome the indomitable Ralphi Rosario into the Party Favorz Legacy series. Brace yourselves; you're in for an auditory feast.

Get ready to have your dancefloor world rocked, because Party Favorz is back with the second volume of the Junior Vasquez Legacy edition. It's nothing short of an earth-shattering tribute that dives deep into the prodigious career of this industry titan. Volume 2 is particularly focused on the late '80s through the present day, capturing the essence of Junior Vasquez's meteoric rise during the '90s and early millennium.

Two anthems demand your attention. Barbara Tucker's "Love's On Time" starts as a as a spoken word motherly advice backed by a gospel choir before building into a massive, gay anthem, encapsulating the hope that love arrives just when you need it. On the other hand, Jennifer Holliday's "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going" is the quintessential gay anthem, combining Holliday's sky-high vocals with a message of defiant resilience—echoing sentiments deeply rooted in the LGBTQ+ community. Junior's mastery transforms these tracks, not merely remixing them, but elevating them into unforgettable experiences.

This volume also serves up Junior's unforgettable reimaginings for the incomparable Mary J. Blige and Billie Ray Martin. His version of "Your Child" takes Blige's soulful vocals to new heights, while "Your Loving Arms" completely redefines the original, turning it into a dancefloor anthem that has stood the test of time.

Of course, it would be a disservice not to mention his work with the infallible Whitney Houston, an artist who needs no introduction. Both "Greatest Love of All" and "I Wanna Dance With Somebody" are transformed into uplifiting dance hits that honor the late diva while ensuring that her voice still reigns supreme on the dancefloor.

And then we have Kristine W and her track "Feel What You Want," another example of how Junior has the exceptional ability to inject his own DNA into a song while respecting the essence of the original. Let's not forget his self-referential "If Madonna Calls," a track that put him on the outs with the DIVA who eventually sidelined him in favor of other DJs in our legacy series, and Nelly Furtado's "I'm Like A Bird," which Junior turned from a quicklypop song into a massive dance club hit.

Finally, Cyndi Lauper's "True Colors" receives a Pride-worthy remix from Junior, perfectly capturing the spirit of the original while giving it an injection of pure dance energy. Junior Vasquez who was born Donald Gregory Mattern (really?) is an American DJ, record producer, and remixer.  With ambitions of becoming a fashion designer, he moved to New York City in 1971. His enthusiasm for DJ Larry Levan at the infamous Paradise Garage led him to Shep Pettibone (another DJ/producer begging for a Legacy induction) where they edited mixes for multiple artists like Madonna, Whitney Houston, Janet Jackson, Pet Shop Boys, and more.

Several of his earliest underground House hits like "Work That Pussy" and "Drag Queen" were under the moniker Ellis D with the latter featured here. In 1989, he co-founded the Sound Factory and simultaneously became an in-demand remixer for several big-label artists. After the Sound Factory closed in 1995, he held multiple residencies including at the Tunnel, and subsequently returned to the former Sound Factory now called Arena.

IF MADONNA CALLS

Junior introduced Madonna to vogue at the Sound Factory, which served as an inspiration for a massively successful song in 1990 by the same name. At the time, she was making a name for herself on the dancefloor by embracing the emerging House Music sounds and flipping them to a more commercial audience. She has long been associated with dance music trends by associating herself with underground names like Shep Pettibone and William Orbit before latching onto Junior Vasquez to remix several tracks from her "Bedtime Stories" album. It was around this time she had allegedly agreed to perform at one of Junior's Sound Factory shows and bowed out at the last moment.

Queens being queens, Junior took one of the messages she left on his answering machine and looped it into the deep house groove "If Madonna Calls" without her permission using the phrase "this is Madonna" "are you there" "call me in Miami." The bitch track went all the way to #2 on the Billboard Dance Club charts and spawned multiple remixes — including anniversary remixes. Afterward, any chance of reconciliation and working together again went out the door. This turned out to be a lucky move on her part as she went on to introduce the world to Victor Calderone and Peter Rauhofer (who was already riding high with Club 69).

Nevertheless, neither of them is getting any younger and Madge is going through some things at the moment. It's time to come together and bury the hatchet. Life's too short for former besties to hold onto grudges.

This set does not reflect any official Junior remixes of Madonna other than "Secret" and the fabulous Marvin Gaye rendering of "I Want You" where Junior was commissioned to remix the track but it never received an official release.
