Both are a powerful way to save money, but in a sustainable way. It also allows you to give your home, head and electronics some much-needed space and clarity. â� â� Tackling clutter can be suchâ� â�  a cathartic practice. This month I am focusing all on no spend and using up what I already have at home....and I will be exposing myself...because I really do have a lot of unused products....

More importantly - its time to reclaim back your leisure time and go practice some self-care...

On this weeks podcast I spoke with David O'Brien. David's incredible self-build in the Cork countryside was the first home to go through to the grand final of RTÉ's 'Home of the Year'. The black house is totally unique and while it looks dark from the outside, it is bright and airy on the inside and packed full of personality.

Speaking about his gorgeous home on the show, David said: "About five years ago I decided that I'd like to build my own home. I wanted to build something that was really unique to me. Black is my favourite colour, so I decided to build a black house". David and I chatted about the process of building your own home in Ireland. He gave some excellent insights into the ups and downs of the process and provided very useful tips for those considering their own self-build project.

David O’ Brien is an interior designer and project manager with RJ O’ Brien Building Contractors in Co. Cork, which is a family run business, established by his late father Ray, over 50 years ago. He also runs the Instagram account @newbuildireland

This weeks podcast discusses Future Financial Planning with Donal Milmo-Penny.

Donal established SMP Financial in 2006 with Garfield Spollen where they advise business owners, professionals, individuals and families on optimising their financial planning. Pensions are a key part of their day to day business though financial planning is a broader practice where they look at the whole of a person's financial affairs and assist them in their life's journey. Donal comments on how he firmly believe that money, whilst not an end in itself, is something that must be carefully managed to facilitate life and provide an individual with choice particularly later in life.

Donal had the privilege to chair PIBA from 2014 to 2016 and was part of a small team that merged PIBA with the IBA to create Brokers Ireland which today represents 1,200 general insurance and financial broker firms throughout Ireland. 

On this weeks podcast we are joined by Kel Galavan, the wonder woman behind @mrssmartmoneyhq. In 2018 Kel Galavan was living and working at breakneck speed, spending endless hours commuting, and felt like she saw more of her children asleep than awake. Realising this wasn’t the life she wanted for herself or her family, she quit her 16 year career, and, with the family income slashed, embarked on a No-Spend Year in 2019. Her journey through self-doubt and hard-won life lessons culminated in savings of over €27,000 and changed the life of her family for the better in ways she could never have imagined.

She bring these lessons to life in her new book Mindful Money, more money, more freedom, more happiness. Mindful Money is about building good spending habits and a positive money mindset to create a fulfilling, happy life no matter your income.
