Legendary Creature - Podcast

It's not a review. We're getting new commander decks this week, but rather than turning our sights to the cards, Andy takes us into the stories of this universe beyond. Magic: the Gathering product continues the path of marrying itself to other intellectual properties. Think what you will of WotC's tendril-like reach for more consumers, but Warhammer 40,000 has a rich narrative. Andy is an avid 40K story consumer, so he takes us into the context of the universe and helps give some life to the cards we'll be playing with the 40K stamp. As you grab those new 40K commander decks be sure to set the mood with Andy's Warhammer 40K playlist: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/6Z3jkFO6WCgsnJrn9n63uI?si=1e8a2a283a5248c6 ------------------- Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/legendarycreature YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/legendarycreaturepodcast Twitter: @legend_creature ------------------- Intro and outro music this episode comes courtesy of the artist Makeup and Vanity Set. Artifacts are old tech, when it comes to Magic: the Gathering. But if you've got your finger on the pulse, you may have noticed some new avenues open up with how to use and abuse artifacts. Andy brings his research and examples to the discussion in this episode, manifesting how all the self-sacrificing artifacts over the last few years have brought about new sub-archetypes and a fresh look to some old commanders. We didn't get to review the backgrounds with all of you listeners. But let's take a dive into what we're finding out about backgrounds and what we're feeling about them. Kyle and Andy both share a few decks they've brewed using backgrounds in the zone. Andy unloads a brainstorm of possible commanders and background pairings that can get your creative juices flowing. Andy's been busy brewing! So often we get focused on the commander and the theme for decks as EDH players. But can we get obsessed with a card like players in other formats? With a card that can hold opponents in suspense regarding its outcome, why not geek out over Danse Macabre? And if you can keep doing it with ways to loop it back to hand, even better. Andy brings to the discussion a variety of brews where this card can shine. As always, you can check out deck lists featured in this episode on our Discord server. Kyle is taking Andy into some tech with a new auras favorite of his. But before he sets up a deck tech for Mazzy, Truesword Paladin, Kyle takes a dive into some ideas of how to conceptualize and understand this era of legendary creature design. There are tons of commanders to choose from. So how should we understand the environment and how to interact with it. Let's close out the series! We've got all the green decks you can imagine. From the potent Selvala, to the human lover, Kogla, to the artifact-loving (?!) bear, Ayula, and more. Our listeners are providing the decks, Andy is giving the details, and Kyle is bringing the awe. We're back! It's been a long while since we've produced an episode. Kyle explains the reason for the hiatus. Then Andy and Kyle dive into a discussion of how those of us who love EDH have an ever-evolving relationship with this game. They get into some personal observations about temperament and chasing the ever-elusive high of the game and how that impacts enjoyment. ------------------- Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/legendarycreature YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/legendarycreaturepodcast Twitter: @legend_creature ------------------- The outro music for this episode comes courtesy of the artist Makeup and Vanity Set. It's time to round out the mono-color series discussions with a visit to mono-green. Zack from the Commander Social podcast joins us to investigate the last color of the pie. Complain as we might about the color, join us as Kyle leads us into a deep dive into green and what the color is all about, what design breaks exist in the color, and whether we should just embrace green as the color of commander. ------------------- Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/legendarycreature YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/legendarycreaturepodcast Twitter: @legend_creature ------------------- Intro and outro music this episode comes courtesy of the artist Home.
