Andy takes on the golden mean discussion as it relates to selecting the cards that we use in commander. With an eternal format, the card options available to commander players are vast. Yet as new cards tempt with a sense of contemporary power, the question still begs: what cards are truly sufficient for your aims as a casual commander player. Despite talking through commander reputations, deck rankings, and lightning rods in the zone on previous episodes, Kyle still has a commander who notoriously gets him focused on. He sits down with Andy to hash out why he thinks that is rightfully happening and they suss out how some commanders are lending to a management philosophy of direct focus because of what some contemporarily designed commanders are designed to do. The drill here is for our listeners to provide their lists for commanders who have under just 500 decks being referenced on EDHREC for data for that commander. In an era where Atraxa and the other top commander are rocking tens of thousands of lists, you truly are drinking that hipster moose juice when your commander isn't cracking 500 lists. So let's see what the listeners are doing to stay unique. As always, find deck lists and card lists from the podcast on the Discord server's #lists-from-the-pod channel. Our relationship with the Magic: the Gathering product ebbs and flows and we're all prone to patterns that place on the path of fatigue or the precipice of drifting away from the game. So how do we find a happy middle ground? Andy guides a discussion of life and death cycle of decks and how that impacts roster building and through personal experience juxtaposed with Kyle's explores what it might not look like to have a happy relationship with the product and constructing a roster of decks that bring joy.
