You may not come out and directly say, "My past defines me." However, you may say something like, "I don't deserve this. I have done this, so I deserve this." (You fill in whatever "this" is for you.)

We limit God because we believe that what we have done in the past is too big, too much, and way too sin-filled for His blood to make us new. 

Most of us are either past focused or future-focused but rarely ever present focused. 

Our salvation and who we are isn't based on our works or what we do or have done.
