What do you do when God’s direction seems longer than the way you would have chosen?
When the Israelites left Egypt, God had options.
There was a shorter route.
But Exodus 13 tells us God didn’t lead them that way.
He knew that if Israel encountered a battle, they might change their minds and return to Egypt. So instead, He led them through the wilderness toward the Red Sea.
They couldn't see what God could see.
And maybe that's something we need to remember when the road we're walking doesn't make sense either.
The longer way doesn't necessarily mean you're lost.
And there’s another detail in this story that might be even more powerful.
God didn't simply tell Israel where to go.
He went with them.
By day, the Lord went ahead of them in a pillar of cloud.
By night, a pillar of fire gave them light.
Then Pharaoh's army came after them.
Israel found itself trapped between the Egyptians and the Red Sea - and something remarkable happened:
The pillar of cloud that had been traveling in front of Israel moved behind them, standing between God's people and the army pursuing them.
The same God who had been leading them forward was now standing between them and what was coming after them.
Before the sea ever opened, God was already present.
You may not know what happens next.
But you can keep your eyes on the One who goes before you—and trust the God who is also able to stand behind you.
