Dr. Bruce K. Tan, otolaryngologist at Northwestern Medicine, joins Jon Hansen, filling in for Lisa Dent, to talk about the functions that our nostrils have and what the ‘nasal cycle’ is. Fluctuating throughout the day, one nostril plays the role of breathing while the other focuses on smelling. The cycle is subconscious and happens through neurological pathways.
