Rep. Bill Foster, 11th District, joins Lisa Dent to discuss the government shutdown. Rep. Foster details how the resolution to the shutdown is centered around the cuts to healthcare spending in the ‘Big Beautiful Bill.’ However, House Speaker Mike Johnson, Rep. Foster explains, has given the House of Representatives an extended break, delaying any possible resolution. As the earliest health insurance premium increases begin this month, Rep. Foster insists that Congress needs to come together and pass a resolution to prevent Affordable Care Act tax credits from expiring.

Katrina Thompson, Mayor of Broadview, joins Lisa Dent to discuss the executive order she signed that limits the protests outside of the ICE facility in Broadview. The executive order puts a time restriction on when and where protests can be held, limiting the hours of protesting from 9 am to 6 pm. Mayor Thompson says the restriction is “to protect the health and welfare of our [Broadview] residents.”

Pat Brady, former chairman for the Illinois Republican Party, and a former federal and state prosecutor, joins Lisa Dent to discuss the presence of ICE agents at the Broadview ICE facility. Brady expresses that the news headlines are “getting more dramatic as the day goes on,” and that things are “spiraling out of control.” Trump called from the arrest of Illinois Governor JB Pritzker and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson for their opposition to the National Guard being deployed. Governor Pritzker has suggested that President Trump’s deployment of the National Guard is due to dementia. Brady, citing local law enforcement, believes that ICE isn’t communicating effectively, and questions whether or not the presence of ICE is just for political show.

Rep. Mike Quigley, 5th District, joins Lisa Dent to discuss the effect the government shutdown, and ICE raids have had on his district. When asked about his possible candidacy for Chicago’s 2027 mayoral election, Rep. Quigley did not rule out the possibility of him being interested in being a part of Chicago’s future. However, considering the pressing circumstances of a government shutdown and the presence of federal ICE agents and National Guard members affecting his constituents, he says his priority is working with other members of Congress to find a solution to the matters at issue.

Jahmal Cole, founder and CEO of My Block, My Hood, My City, joins Lisa Dent to talk about his mission to live in all 77 of Chicago’s neighborhoods. After being unable to find an Airbnb in North Lawndale last month, Cole decided to stay in the community this month in order to fully experience the neighborhood for a full thirty days.

Congressman Sean Casten, 6th District, joins Lisa Dent to discuss the government shutdown. Rep. Casten was sworn in as a representative during the first Trump administration while the government was in the longest shutdown in history. Rep. Casten notes that, despite the knowledge that the government was on a September 30th fiscal deadline, neither the Senate nor the House of Representatives have passed any of the twelve appropriation bills required to fund the government. Instead, Rep. Casten explains, “[Congress] prioritized a bill that gave massive tax cuts to billionaires and took 14 million Americans’ health insurance away.” Rep. Casten expresses that regardless of which party someone is, these actions are, “irresponsible.”

Paul Reiser, actor and comedian, joins Lisa Dent to talk about his upcoming performance at the Belushi Performance Hall on Friday, October 17th. Reiser shares how he got into stand-up comedy as an 18 year old in college, and how coming back to stand up after years of doing film felt new again. He shares some stories from throughout his career as an actor, comedian, and writer.
