    Not worth it!
I found the book boring and tedious. It is definitely not a page turning thriller. I did not even skip to the end as I didn't care how it turned out. My opinion is - choose a different book!

    Narration drove me crazy!
Would you ever listen to anything by Vaughn C. Hardacker again?
    Don't think so.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Christopher Price?
Not sure however Christopher Price' voice was painful and dull. Drove me crazy and I only made it half way through before I had to give up.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Disappointment, the storyline was predictable and slow.
    A pleasant surprise
This book turned out to be a great find. I love the discounted books. It gives me a chance to try different authors and this one is a keeper. I am hoping that there are more written by him. The narrator was excellent too. I think it is very difficult to read a book out loud. This guy takes you right into the book.
    Lame
    What disappointed you about Sniper?
This book was nothing but a collection standard plot devices and story lines. The book was entirely predictable and dull.
Has Sniper turned you off from other books in this genre?
    No.
What about Christopher Prices performance did you like?
Price's performance was fine. He did the best he could with what he had to work with.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Disappointment. However, I'm thrilled it was a free book and I didn't waste my money on it.
    Any additional comments?
You can skip this book. You've already read it or watched it on TV, the characters just have different names.
    Unimpressed
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
I found the story to be unrealistic. The characters were unintelligent - something very bad when they are law enforcement officials and military personnel.
    *** SPOILER****
The Sniper is reported to be in a white van, yet more than once the lead detectives ignore the obvious presence of a white van - one time when it is following Houston from Ann's. She sees the van but doesn't take special note of its presence....really?? Stupidity is a huge pet peeve of mine and its worse when the author tries to say the characters are smart.

Fairly good story. The bad part is that it is only 10% of the estimated pages. The other 90% is the first 13 chapters of a totally, totally unrelated story.

    good
Read all the multi-packs and shorts packs long ago, since 2012. The author has gotten better with age/practice. I've read almost all of the Cooper stories (1 - 230) and several of Mr. Bernico's short stories and most have not disappointed me. You'll find some poorly written or predictable stories, but for the most part they are fair to good. The Cooper series are better, but there's a few stinkers, too. They're great for a coffee break or a few minutes to relax.

i have enjoyed 132 cooper collection stories, hope bill bernico continues to write more family stories, i appreciate the good clean stories

good story, narration not so great
If you could sum up Rage in three words, what would they be?
The narration akmost takes away from the story. The "accents" she tries are terrioble. One if ther characters is Hispanic and the accent almost sounds Scots. Her Southern is bad as well. Need to find a new narrator,
How could the performance have been better?
Quit with the accents. You cant so them well

    Title: Epitaph for Emily
Subtitle: A Jim Wolf Mystery, Book 2
    Author: Tim Wohlforth
    Narrator: Patrick Lawlor
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 7 hrs and 25 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 12-06-13
    Publisher: Blackstone Audio, Inc.
    Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, Noir
    Publisher's Summary:
While at a reading of a Kurt Vonnegut biography, private investigator Jim Wolf senses someone watching him. He catches sight of a young woman, maybe mid-twenties, who is short and has straight, straw-colored blond hair, granny glasses, and freckles. Her figure is more boyish than that of a grown woman. She wears jeans and a man's white dress shirt, and a cheap necklace of amber-colored beads with silver disks circles her neck. Her name is Emily.
They escape the crowded bookstore and head for Wolf's boat - a simple romantic rendezvous that Emily assures Wolf they both want. In the morning Wolf wakes as two Oakland detectives land on his deck. Emily had left during the night, and their simple tryst has suddenly become complicated. Emily is dead - and Wolf is charged with her murder.
With his own life in jeopardy, Wolf must find the killer. His quest leads him to the Cal campus, a bearded expert on Vonnegut who was sleeping with Emily, and a retro-sixties bash called the Commie Café, where the past becomes the murderous present.

Bring back the Lightness and Love.
I gave Tim's first book in the series a 5star rating but this time I found the book dark without the usuallight parts as in the first book when the hero is looking for the killer in the desert. He is taking a nude bath in a desert lake. Momentarily he is joined by several nude lesbian motocycle drivers also trying to cool off. it was a hilarious scene, cooling off the heavy (but good) parts of the book. he is a wonderful writer because he seems to blend the horror of the whatever killings taking place with romance or comedy. Maybe next time he will return to his art that he can handle sooo well.
    Page turner
Wohlforth's Jim Wolf is a cross between romantic liberal and no nonsense PI. In this second of his Jim Wolf mysteries, Wohlforth displays his skill at creating the Oakland scene and his knowledge of the protest movements during the Viet Nam war period. Wolf brings together threads from the past and the present that not only help him to solve the mystery but also reveal how he has come to be the kind of man he is. A good read, especially for fans of Vonnegut's Slaughterhouse Five, which figures prominently in the plot.
    Great mystery (yes)
A great mystery that I enjoyed from front to back. Got a bit complicated in spots where two other episodes interrupted the main story but then three mysteries in one is not so bad. I recommend it and guarantee you won't get bored.
    Twisted
Noir at its best! Oakland P-I Jm Wolfe, uncovering a horrifying murder, almost metes his end, himself, in this moving, atmospheric, action-packed novel of twisted love and death.

    Worth reading
It's a clean book with a little bit of mystery. I do think the characters were "in love" a bit quick but I enjoyed otherwise
    Short Listen, Annoying Narration
Would you ever listen to anything by Karen Fenech again?
Doubtful since the writing was juvenile with absurd dialogue and behavior from both protagonists that was inconsistent with their supposed characters. The villain was absurdly trite, with no interesting motivations. The male and female leads fall in "love" without any real reasoning. There is no true sense of them getting to know one another and liking what they learn. There's not even any irresistible, overwhelming attraction that leads them to fall in bed together. It just felt like two strangers who decided to have sex then were magically in love for all time. It made no sense for either of them.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Andrea Bates?
I spent the entire book thinking about how the narration reminded me of a high school English teacher I'd had who was notorious for her monotonous reading. Ms. Bates wasn't quite as bad as that teacher, but her skill left much to be desired. Her shifts between characters were indistinguishable, making it difficult to determine who was "speaking" sometimes. Her pronunciation of some words was off as well. One example: mete, pronounced as though it was "met" when it should have been "meet." In an audible book, pronunciation matters.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
No. I knew who the "bad guy" was almost immediately.
    Any additional comments?
Honestly, I'm grateful this was as short a listen as it was. I was tempted to stop mid-way through, but decided to finish it since it was so short. It's definitely not a good thing when I sigh with relief as I hear the music signaling the end of a book.

    Title: Skin
    Author: Mo Hayder
    Narrator: Andrew Wincott
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 11 hrs and 7 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 11-08-13
    Publisher: Dreamscape Media, LLC
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 120 votes
Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, Police Procedurals
    Publisher's Summary:
When the decomposing body of a young woman is found, the wounds on her wrists suggest an open-and-shut case of suicide. But Jack Caffery is not so sure. Other apparent suicides are cropping up, and they all have a connection to Elf's Grotto, a nearly bottomless network of flooded quarries just outside the city.
Caffery begins to suspect a shadowy and sinister predator, someone - or something - that can disappear into darkness and slip into houses unseen. Working alongside Caffery is rough-and-tough police diver Flea Marley, but while pursuing her investigation, she stumbles upon something far too close to home that no one - not even Caffery - can help her face.
    Critic Reviews:
"Hayder captures the claustrophobia of Flea's dives in unsettling detail and continues to build on her two damaged heroes." (Publishers Weekly, Starred Review)
    Members Reviews:
Suspension of disbelief is one thing...
...improbable coincidences that serve to tie together loose ends of a story are something else again. I am fond of this series and especially like the moral ambiguities that Jack Caffery and now Flea Marley are faced with. They are believable characters. The series of contrivances that brought this story (which began in the last book, Ritual) to a close are not believable, however.
Having said that, I could not stop listening during the last few hours of the book and actually spent the day baking so I would have an excuse to listen! I simply wanted to know how it would end - something that is all too predictable in many of the books I read.
I woiuld also add that the narration is flawless and adds greatly to the enjoyment. Although I was not much impressed with this book, I'll surely carry on to the next.
Dark and Grizzly - LOVE Detective Caffery
If you do not like dark and deviant characters and aberrant, twisted, violent plots and a well written series of characters you will love and hate - don't even think about this series. The low ratings are almost always from people who've been scarred by the first few pages. Mo Hayder is a wonderful writer and though the narrators change in different books - I really don't like that - they are solidly good.
not my favorite but still great!
It wasnt as chopped , cut and dried as her previous novels. I got a bit lost at times and the antagonist (skin guy) wasn't as clear I'm either character or motive. I did not feel like I knew him at all. But it was still a good listen.
