Always loved this series, now I'm getting it for kids

Who doesn't love Doc Savage, so much more creative than the Hardy Boys! Get these books for your kids while you still can!

This might be my favorite of the Doc Savage series

This might be my favorite of the Doc Savage series, although I never did read Up From Earth's Center, the final Robeson book in the series. The Polar Treasure has some real good back and forth antics between Monk and Ham in the submarine. At one point, Ham happens upon a roughneck crewman named Dynamite Smith who has just been trounced by the Captain. Ham sees the badly beaten crewman crumpled on the floor and "immediately eliminates him as a potential opponent for Monk." Hilarious! I loved the old Bantam paperback series. This one is a particular standout too. Very highly recommended.

Muy bien escrito

Como lamentablemente no conozco nada de la historia de Colombia,me desoriento mucho el hecho de no saber que era realidad y qué ficción,solo habría podido distinguir eso si hubiera tenido antecedentes históricos ,eso me hizo difícil la lectura ,porque luchaba con esa duda(ficción o realidad?)El libro está muy bien escrito y lo sumerge a uno en pensamientos más bien oscuros con respecto a como el mundo no ha cambiado,como se sigue asesinando gente valiosa,Gandhi,Indira Gandhi,Kennedy,y muchos otros,políticos o no y el odio ,la intolerancia,la ambición desmedida,la codicia reinan en el mundo desde siempre .

Novela basada en los asesinatos de dos líderes colombianos. Hechos no esclarecidos dan pie para el buen uso de la imaginación.

loved this book. kept me guessing kept me engaged overall was a pleasure to listen

my only complaint is that the actual recording seemed to jump ahead . I found myself lost at a few points and had to rewind.then it seemed to repeat on me on numerous occasions that made it difficult at times as I was afraid I may have missed something it has never been an issue with other books or device so I expect that in mind if you get a little lost or ahead or behind. it would be interesting to know if anyone else has had that happen.

Almost but Not Quite

This book had entertaining moments - however, the only thing that held my interest was how the author did a decent job of keeping the mood and tone as a thriller. The character development was so weak that it interfered with understanding the events that unfolded. There were many side story lines that were never followed-up and just left unanswered. Certain actions of most of the characters made no sense because we don't understand the motivation or reason since we know so little about that person. For example, the relationship of the main character with her boyfriend, it was hard to know how serious or how each person felt about the other. Even though the boyfriend does something to take their relationship to the next level, the way they felt about each other was still unclear. There was no background story or substance to back-up the actions of pretty much all of the characters. It was very surprisingly lacking. I just went along with it because as I mentioned, the writing, language, pacing was the way a thriller should be. Ultimately, keeping a reader/listener confused and in the dark and only barely explaining everything at the end isn't an effective mystery/suspense.

I thought this book started well enough but I became utterly bored with it. I really didn't care what happened the characters..

Loved this book

Loved this book! I got so involved with the characters and everything about this story was right on point. There are great twists, characters you root for, and a very satisfying ending. I really enjoyed this book and will look for more from this author.

Like Two Stories in One, The Second a Lot Better Than the First

This is pretty much two stories in one, with the same character. Initially it's a fairly predictable tale about a teacher whose wife doesn't want him coming to the gym with her. His conspiracy theories didn't really add anything to the story. The initial chapters move on, when the main character moves to a rural property where he notices he is being spied on by a teenager girl he saw being abused by an old man when he drove down the dirt road to his home. She has wisdom to offer to him to keep his garden alive, he has a lot of advice, life experience and a spare place to sleep to offer her. Only small towns can have types who don't like outsiders, especially when those types are the police and they are related to the guy you have taken the girl away from.

Fantastic Read!

I absolutely loved this book. I started reading it while I was serving jury duty and once I was dismissed later in the day, I couldn't stop reading until I finished! It was so well written with plenty of suspense and drama. There were times I was so mad at the Strickland characters, times I was teary-eyed because of what Brittney went through abd times I was laughing at some of the things James would say. There's even some actual, real world info that is great to apply to your life (the gold/silver buying)! I am so happy I came across this book and look forward to reading more from Phil Williams. I definitely would recommend this book to anyone looking for a great book to read and will warn them to make sure they set aside a day because like me, once they start it they won't want to stop until they finish the whole book.

Not a great literary work, but a decent entertainment

Although I did not like it, this is a book that I read in a couple of days and found myself compulsively turning pages. That alone should place it higher than the three stars, but not high enough to merit the full four. I'll try to justify this evaluation in my short review. First the abbreviated story line: James, an iconoclastic school teacher is introduced to us at a moment that his life goes through a major crisis-his unfaithful wife dies, he looses his job, he is increasingly disaffected with the capitalist society way of life. Alone, he moves into a small town, gets a out-of-the-way one room cabin, starts growing vegetables and fruit in his backyard and, to make ends meet, teaches evening classes at the community college.

Jason King series getting BETTER AND BETTER!!!!

I think CORRUPTED has got to be the BEST in the Jason King series.

In this book Jason's handler contacts him while he's recuperating from injuries sustained during his last mission. She gives him an assignment but doesn't tell him that it's a personal assignment for her and not sanctioned. When the mission goes awry, Jason goes rogue and decides to complete it anyway. Jason comes up against a formidable opponent and with out assistance from a friend he may not have survived. He survives only to face an even larger opponent, the United States.

Roger Wayne does an excellent job narrating.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

2nd half better; female voices screechy

Ive read all the books in the Peter Diamond series and, while this isnt a real standout, its a decent read in spite of some flaws.

There are two mysteries to be solved in this book. First is to identify the old corpse found in the attic of a building being demolished. That mystery takes up about half the book, while the other half is the whodunnit plot.

I was irritated a few times with the identification plot. Diamonds team of detectives behave badly to each other, with John Leeman being so rude to his colleagues that Id have removed him from the team. There was never anything that advanced the plot or the characters development in this squabbling. It just felt like annoying padding. Unfortunately, Lovesey has never done much to develop Diamonds team as characters. Im willing to live with that for the sake of a good police procedural, but if he is going to have action with the secondary characters, please dont have it be pointless conflict among them.

The other irritation about the identification plot was how slow the detectives were on some key clues, in particular on how some evidence could be used to date the time of the murder. Yes, they got around to figuring that out, but one in particular of these things was something that anybody who has so much as watched the occasional TV crime drama would know instantly.

Once you get to the whodunnit plot, the book is much more enjoyable. The clues are dropped judiciously and the stories the investigation reveals are interesting. The descriptions of Diamonds involvement in the Beau Nash Society as part of the investigation are particularly vivid and lively.

All in all, a decent police procedural once you get to the whodunnit. If you decide to read it, I cant recommend the audiobook. The male reader uses a screechy falsetto for nearly all the female voices.

Very entertaining

a very enjoyable book. A book full of good humour and heart. Great story ,well told .Will look out for next book.

Held Interest but Questionably Categorized Genre

This book was decent and entertaining but it was heavy on the erotica so if you dont expect it, I can see how it could throw you off. However, I didnt see a lot of the twists and turns that unraveled so that made it worth it. The character development couldve been stronger so the events made more sense.

Enjoyed the story but...

I didn't think all of the lesbian sex scenes were necessary. Even if it weren't lesbian, many scenes were just unnecessary and gratuitous. I don't know why the author felt so compelled to graphically describe a lesbian sex scene. The story would have been much better without it.

Love all CCs books but the Oregon is my fave.. the characters are so good they never disappoint. Scott Brick is amazing as the storyteller and I love drifting off on their adventures again and again.

The factual elements in the stories only enrich the whole experience. keep em coming!! xx
