    Publisher's Summary:
After months of training a budding army of human/demon hybrids, Ayala and Carrick have worked out most of their differences. Who gets to use the bathroom first in the morning. Who'll feed the bunny before they go out to make mayhem. Who gets to keep the jeeling claw they found in Forest Hills. You know, the important stuff.
But when Gregor sends them out with their battalion of shades and the mission quickly lands on the wrong side of Ayala's "don't kill norms" moral line, she quickly discovers that maybe morality wasn't the motivator behind Gregor's pet project - or at least not when money's involved. And when a trio of shades starts murdering the populace in Nashville again and targeting places and people significant to Ayala, her desire to help her own comrade shades stay on the good side of the Mediators will place her at their mercy again. With the Summit fracturing and demons closing in on the city, saving the shades and herself may cost Ayala everything.

    Very odd narration
I liked this book, better than the first one of the series, but the narration was really bad. The cadence was strange, and when the narrator reads other characters' voices - particularly male ones - she sounds like a woman trying unsuccessfully to sound like a man. And Ayala's boss sounds like Minnie Mouse!
    wow
a wonderful urban fantasy.i love the characters and the story plot. the ending is a surprising twist. i really am looking forward to the next story in this series.
Ayala is fighting for herself and loved ones
    Any additional comments?
Im surprised at the depth this audio gave me. The first book in the series I had to get used to, but this second book really moved the marker up a few notches.
Ayalas world is somewhat complicated. She is still snarky and swears a lot, but Id do that too if I had had to deal with hordes of demons. Besides the Hellkin that are flooding the place, someone in the Summit is just wrong. She needs to protect the Shades and the Shades are learning humanity as quickly as they can (reading romances for goodness sake!), but they are also disappearing. Ayala doesnt know who she can trust to cover her back and while shes fighting the good fight, she still has the mystery of who is betraying her to figure out.
    Fantastic series continuation
This second book is amazing and I found it perhaps better than the first. Great character development, excellent pacing, awesome story.
    Great Second Book
Some folks are adjusting to having Shades, half-hellkin half-human, be the good guys. Some folks are not adjusting at all. Ayala has to figure out who is who.
While it took me a bit to warm up to Storm in a Teacup, it didnt take any time at all for me to enjoy Any Port in a Storm. Im more familiar with the rules of Ayalas world and am accustomed to Amber Bensons voice as Ayala.
The world building in this series does come slowly, but its there. I know some readers, like me, enjoy the world building and want a lot of it up front. Others want to jump into the action and learn whats needed when its needed. It can be a rock and a hard place for an author.
In Any Port, Ayala is learning to let others in despite her childhood with the Summit and the dangerous nature of her lifefirst the Shades she wants to protect, then other mediators who are on her side.

    it was a good book
I really loved the world and the idea behind the magic. I however found parts of it very annoying. the book would often jump forward in certain areas leaving parts out entirely or it would go back and explain what happened a little bit further on. it made little hiccups in the story that was confusing and I had to rewind and make sure I hadn't just missed something. it really pulled you out of the story.
Overall I will probably read more books of this series but I have no drive to look for them right away.
Dyslexic Wizard in world w/ Magic through Language
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
I would recommend the book to fans of High Fantasy, with lots of politics, and requiring some mental investment.
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
I like the idea of a dyslexic wizard in a word where magic relies on reading and writing in multiple languages. However, the language angle also distracts from the action at times. The many factions also mean you need to be paying close attention to follow the audio edition.
Was Spellwright worth the listening time?
I liked the book, but I think it might be better read in print instead of listened to. Of course, your mileage may vary.
    Hate/Love
What made the experience of listening to Spellwright the most enjoyable?
I enjoyed the book but it required me to push past the first few chapters. If I was reading this I'd have set it down 20 pages in. I wasn't until the author finished building into the spell system, onslaught of descriptions, and I understood how the spells worked that I started to enjoy the book.
Who was your favorite character and why?
My favorite character was the demon. The way he tried to reason and nearly seemed caring.
What about Kevin T. Collinss performance did you like?
I'm not sure if it was part of the book or not. The narrator spent a small amount of time reading and then spelling out the word letter by letter. It wasn't a long time but he did it in a way that never once bugged me. I was never distracted from the story.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
I was excited about the lost languages.

LAYLA STILL KICKS BUTT LIKE A PRO!
What did you love best about The Shadow Aspect (The Harvesting Series Book 3)?
That Layla and Cricket's group finally joined forces...I really like both of them!!!
What other book might you compare The Shadow Aspect (The Harvesting Series Book 3) to and why?
This is a unique zombie series, there are not only zombies...there are vamps, fairies, shape shifters...really a cool concept!
    Which scene was your favorite?
I liked many, but especially when Layla frees the Zombie mom, and gives her her baby...and Zombie mom gets her due justice!
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I could have....I did listen to it in 1 day though...
    Any additional comments?
** I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review **
I loved book 1, and 1.5, and this one was pretty good too....This one picks up after the group has escaped the vamps...and is on the run...Well Cricket finds them with a tip from her card reading friend...they come back to a university where people have been surviving for awhile...Well there is a Doctor there up to no good...and as things always happen in a Z-Poc they barely escape, but now they have help....I love Cricket...and her and Layla are going to make a great team!
    Thanks Melanie!!!
a whisper of fantasy in dark zombie fiction
Another strong installment in Karsak's The Harvesting zombie series. I've had the pleasure to read the accompanying novellas as well as the books, so that's how I can say that about book supposedly #2. As usual, Karsak writes deftly and smoothly, with good dimensional characters that speak and act like real people - and she puts those poor souls in so much danger! She's not above killing off a character. It IS a zombie series, after all.
This book starts immediately where The Harvesting left off, so I had to go back and re-read my review to catch up with who was who. The book starts right into peril and action, so I feel jealous of those that come to the series able to read straight from Book 1 to Book 2 as they won't lose the emotional ties to the characters as I did over the wait for this book. Layla is there and fiercely protecting her band of survivors. They are offered shelter, but are leery of help and unsure who to trust. Cricket and Tristan are here (from the novella Midway). More magic is revealed, and the zombies are not as simple as we thought at first. Karsak doles out the hints and foreshadowing deftly, edges the to high tension with the zombie fighting and mistrust, and then knows when to relieve the tension with a bit of sweet romance or childhood innocence.

    different
Very different from most of this genre. I can't say much of why without spoilers so I'll keep it short. Twists and turns that you don't see coming and that will make you say ..wait.. WHAT?!?! The only thing that I didn't particularly care for was the narrator. Don't get me wrong, she did a good job but just sounded too young for this book and it put me off a bit. I think I'll read the next one but I'll definitely buy it. I have to see where this is going from here.
    Great!
Keeps me engaged- many unexpected twists in the storyline. Really enjoyed the story and the narration
    Good Series
I liked this series, but I hope there's another book coming because this one ends in a cliff hanger .

Great for grades 3-5, boys, and/or Minecraft fans
As a children's librarian I am always on the lookout for good books that I think kids will like. This Minecraft series is full of books that I literally cannot keep on the shelf; as soon as they returned someone else checks them out. Kids who are reluctant readers may like this series as it is entertaining but not overly difficult, and those who like the Minecraft game will be especially pleased.
I recommend this series for boys especially, and the grades that check them out the most are 3rd-5th (older kids or advanced readers may not be challenged enough by these books).
Amazing Series! (review by product user, age 11)
This is book 1 out of 6. At first I was fine with reading a minecraft book. But once I finished this book, I wanted to read all of them in one day! This series is awesome. I recommend it to all those people who play minecraft, and all the people who like twists in books. There is also an AR test for it.
    Great book.

My 8 y/old is obsessed with the Winter Morgan series and reads them cover to cover when they arrive. The other Minecraft series don't appeal to him at all; writing style, I guess.
    Keeps him interested in reading!
My son loves reading these books. I can't say that I totally understand the Minecraft draw, but he loves them, he enjoyed reading this book, and it kept him occupied and coming back for more. I'll definitely be ordering more books from this series in the future!

    Magick indeed!
There is a lot packed in to this novel - a Frankenstein style science lab, Lazarus resurrection, reincarnation, magick, witchcraft, and a chilling portrayal of an oh-so-too-real bible thumping madman.
The story is read with much skill and a rather engaging performance.
    Book was just okay
    BOOK REVIEW....
I had trouble getting into this story from the beginning. A good part of that was the reading itself. But also the story. It was very wordy. I found myself wishing it was a paperback so I could skip in places. Over all it was just an okay story.
    AUDIO REVIEW......
I found the narrator to sounded like she wasn't really interested in the story. The characters were different enoughsounding to be able to tell the difference of who was speaking for the most part. However they were annoying sounding. I didn't like the sound of them at all.

Where Witchcraft, Religion, and Science Crashes
Cat Magic takes place in Maywell, New Jersey where the some of the residents are witches. Amanda Walker came to Maywell, New Jersey from New York City in attempt to get her name as an illustrator for a well-known author, Constance Collier. She is staying with her uncle, George to get her illustration done if Constance Collier hires her.
Little does Amanda knows that she will be involved with Witchcraft, a mad scientist, and a fanatic preacher in a life and death confrontation of who she is in the past and what she has to do to break the cycle.
Cat Magic has its all, witchcraft, religion, and science. Each tampered with the theme of resurrection and reincarnation. It is about love, hatred, guilt, redemption, and most of all, a lesson in tolerance.
When I received this audiobook, I was more intrigued by the book cover and the title of the book. I'm not particularly interested in religious theme. In some of the books containing the religious theme, there is always a crazy preacher leading his followers to do some extreme acts which puts me off. This story goes deeper into each of the characters' background that the readers will understand why each has a place and a lesson involved.
The best character I loved in this story is Tom, the black cat. He plays a minor part throughout the story and somehow connect each of the characters' roles.
The narrator, Maria Marquis does an excellent job of telling the story. I enjoyed listening to her narrating the story.
I was given this audiobook by the author/narrator via Audiobook Blast in exchange of an honest review.

    Good story
While I enjoyed the story I did not enjoy the performance. Technically it was well performed yet some of the characterizations got on my nerves. Definitely not a book for children yet the Lyra characterization was, to me, done in a childish sounding manner. This is the one that bothered me the most.
On to the story...It is a great portrayal of self loathing and disastrous consequences. It is a portrayal of struggle and triumph. It is a portrayal of persecution, perseverance, the search for family and carving out a niche with others like one's self and making a place in the world.
    good book
I own this book as well I love it. it has a good plot a week made story line.
    horrible
What would have made Requiem's Song better?
Less flopping around between and less degradation of the main characters. They got beat, raped and killed so often I just couldn't keep track of who was doing what to whom.
Would you ever listen to anything by Daniel Arenson again?
Everyone deserves a second chance but I will never listen to this series again
    completely disappointed
was really looking forward to this title. not worth the money. narrator was annoying.
maybe if was in 5th grade
the characters were not believable. the story was good but poorly written. the narrator made me feel like I was 6 and I was being told a spooky story.

Bill should know that you never complain in the Troopers. But when his new foot looks like it's turning into something green, scaly, and abundantly clawed, a visit to the medics would seem to be reasonable. But before he can say "Quintiform computer error", he seems to have got himself volunteered again, this time for a suicide mission on Tsuris - the planet nobody ever comes back from.
A number, exactly a billion in fact, of Tsurisians have no bodies at all to speak of and reside in bottles, which, as Bill remarks, is an awful lot of bottles. And Bill is going to need all the bottle he possesses to get himself out of this one....
If you want to bravely probe where no one has ever probed before, then join Bill, Splock, and Captain Dirk as once again our Galactic Hero investigates new depths in the realms of the science-fiction cliché.
    Members Reviews:
A major disappointment from two well-regarded writers
An episodic novel that wants to be comical but comes off as mindlessly silly. It's so eminently forgettable that you can read several chapters, put the book down and, after an interval, pick it up again without recalling what happened previously. And it doesn't matter because what happened was inane to begin with.
I've read only one other book by Harrison, one from his Stainless Steel Rat series, and thought it was good entertainment. Ditto several of Sheckley's works, both novels and short stories. On the assumption that other titles in the Bill the Galactic Hero series are as insipid as this one, I have no desire to read any of them.
