    Publisher's Summary:
For the President of the United States, the daily horror of life in West Darfur, Sudans anarchic killing fields, just hit heartbreakingly close to home. His beloved niece Lily, a nurse caring for refugees in the war-torn region, has been targeted and savagely murdered by a corps of Janjaweed, fearsome government-backed militiamen.
The rash and vicious killing is a clear provocation, but any response will seriously destabilize the already teetering region and threaten the security of the entire world. With the situation too explosive for diplomatic or military solutions, yet with the President and the public thirsting for revenge, America is out of options. Except one: Ryan Kealey.
Kealey, ex-Special Forces, former CIA, and unrivaled counterterrorism expert, has been central to the war on terror for over a decade. But hes finished trying to save the world. After the Agency hung him out to dry - and let his lover die - it was easy for him to turn his back. They had nothing he wanted. Until now. For the government has revealed its trump card, the one thing Kealey will risk everything for.
Once back in the fold, Kealeys pursuit of Lilys killers unearths secrets and betrayals that shock even his war-tempered sensibilities and leave him with no one to trust. On the lawless streets of Sudan, and at the highest levels of the American government, shadowy forces ignite a conflagration with unknowable global consequences. Brimming with intrigue and danger, The Exile pulses with high-stakes gamble after gamble, as one man navigates a tenuous web of international relations that could collapse at any moment.

    Title: The Road to Gandolfo
    Author: Robert Ludlum
    Narrator: Scott Brick
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 10 hrs and 48 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 04-03-12
    Publisher: Random House Audio
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 135 votes
    Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, Espionage
    Publisher's Summary:
In this wickedly funny novel, Robert Ludlum combines the explosive pacing of The Bourne Identity and The Bourne Supremacy with a bitingly witty send-up of everything from government bureaucrats and pandering military men to the mob, the law, and organized religion.
War hero and infamous ladies man General MacKenzie Hawkins is a living legend. His life story has even been sold to Hollywood. But now he stands accused of defacing a historic monument in Chinas Forbidden City. Under house arrest in Peking, with a case against him pending in Washington, it looks like the end of Macs illustrious career.
But he has a plan of his own - and it includes kidnapping the Pope. Whats the ransom? Just one American dollar - for every Catholic in the world. Add to the mix a slew of shady investors; Hawkins four persuasive, well-endowed ex-wives; and a young lawyer and fellow soldier who wants nothing more than to return to private life - and youve got one relentlessly irreverent page-turner.

    Ludlum;s true calling
What did you love best about The Road to Gandolfo?
It put me in mind of Biller Wilder at his best, A laugh a minute. Outrageous storyline, memorable characters and perfect pacing. I was actually laughing out loud. I found myself imagining the perfect cast for the story. It would make a great movie.I'm reading the sequel the Road to Omaha, and it doesn't miss abeat.
What other book might you compare The Road to Gandolfo to and why?
    n/a
Have you listened to any of Scott Bricks other performances before? How does this one compare?
I have listened to dozens of Scott Bick's performances and this could be his best. His British accents are a bit stilted but, easily forgiveable.I still give him a 10 on this. No one else could have pulled this off as well.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
"And you thought you knew Robert Ludlum"
    Hard to follow
This book wasnt for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
I thought this story was very hard to follow. Not my favorite R. Ludlum story.
    Better than reading the book
Would you listen to The Road to Gandolfo again? Why?
Yes. Trying to clear other books then try it again.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
Laughing to hard to sit on the edge of my seat, might fall off.
Which character as performed by Scott Brick was your favorite?
The General and the lawyer. Could not have one without the other.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes but too long to do so.
    Any additional comments?
Thank you Robert Ludlum for this book. Great humor. The only improvement I can think of is "Road to Omaha" being an Audion Book. PLEASE!
    A fun, twisted story!
    Any additional comments?
For all his serious spy thriller novels, this is a great change. A very versatile author.
    Classic Ludlum with humor
This is one of my favorite Books ever. A classic Robert Ludlum adventure with international intrigue, an unwitting hero, and a undertone of a love story. Only this one is humorous, filled with zany characters.
If you enjoy Douglas Adams, Christopher Moore, or Jimmy Buffet's Joe Merchant, you will enjoy this. Try also the sequel Road to Omaha.

    Outstanding Novel, Brilliantly Read
Le Carre's classic spy novel is brought to life by a wonderful reading. Jayston's British voice goes so perfectly with the novel and the character's of "the circus" are brought to life right in front of your ears!
This novel is intricate with great depth of characters and twist and turns that keep you on the edge of your seat guessing till the end. The descriptions of the service, the agents, the "circus" and the enemy brings to life this Cold War classic. Do not go past this novel and this reading!
    Gripping Cold War thriller
Would you consider the audio edition of The Spy Who Came in from the Cold to be better than the print version?
I first read 'The Spy Who Came in From the Cold' in print when I was 12 or 13 and it was the best seller everyone was talking about. In print I tended to rush ahead to see what happened, but the audio version slows you down to savour Le Carre's writing.
What other book might you compare The Spy Who Came in from the Cold to and why?
Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy - a complex story with double-crosses and suspense.
    Which scene was your favorite?
An early scene, when the double agent crosses the border into West Germany on his bicycle.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Oh yes - it will keep you sitting in your car listening to the recording, long after you've pulled into the driveway.
    Still Chilling
It has been a long time indeed since I read this title. I recall it being rather dull and somewhat disturbing for a reason I couldn't quite put my finger upon. Now, with the benefit of time, I understand that I was not old enough to appreciate the chilling undertone to a book, where there is so little violence (although a fair number of people die), but an eerie threat permeates the text. That threat is like a fog that I associates with East Berlin, the Wall and all thinks KGB, NKVD and the other counterpoints to MI6 and the CIA. Listening to the narrative now I appreciate the grit, the ugliness and the end justifies everything mendacity that drove people like Smiley, Leamas, Mundt, Control, Fiedler and others. It is the reverse of the superficial sense of fairness of Liz Gold.
This is still a cracker story with a terrific ending. It's not the same as the film (with Richard Burton terrific in the Leamas role) although the core scenes are pretty close.

    Critic Reviews:
Indridason fills the void that remains after youve read Stieg Larssons novels. (USA Today)
    Members Reviews:
    Misbegotten Thriller
I enjoy Indridason's top-notch detective series. Perhaps that fact added to my sense of disappointment with Operation Napoleon. It is about as stale a thriller as can be. The characters are, without exception, one-dimensional and formulaic. The plot is the same old end-of-WWII conspiracy material that's been rehashed hundreds of time.
    Operation Nowhere To Run
I really enjoyed reading this. I should have read this, however, in the winter. Some books are very sensory rich, and can be enjoyed even more by immersing yourself into the story elements. This would be a great read while traveling in Iceland, flying on a trip to a new, unfamiliar country, or during a snowstorm, stuck at home. The quick pace kept me interested throughout the tale. I want to hike on Vatnajokull. I want to learn Icelandic. I want to write.
    Interesting yarn
Well told story that neverthless play fast and loose with significant underlying details of the tale that makes the overall plot rather unbelieveable
    What a terrific puzzler
If you could sum up Operation Napoleon in three words, what would they be?
I enjoy all of the Indridason Series, but this was an exceptional tale that kept you guessing until the end. George Guidall is the best reader and never fails to make the story enjoyable.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
Definately, until the very end we are kept guessing and holding our breath for the heroine. I loved this book and the description of Icelandic life.
Which character as performed by George Guidall was your favorite?
    Christine of course
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
    Made me want more
    Too much American bashing
Would you try another book from Arnaldur Indridason and/or George Guidall?
George Guidall ABSOLUTELY. Indridason possibly not. I would have to know it was more believable and less about the EVIL American government
What was most disappointing about Arnaldur Indridasons story?
    The unbelievable story
Did George Guidall do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?
    ABSOLUTELY HE IS THE BEST
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Operation Napoleon?
    The entire plot. STAR OVER

    Publisher's Summary:
#1 New York Times best-selling author Brad Thor brings readers his darkest and most intriguing thriller yet - a terrifying story of espionage and betrayal - brilliantly paced with superb nonstop action.
Born in the shadows and kept from heads of state, there are some missions so deadly, so sensitive, that they simply don't exist.
When one such mission goes horribly wrong, a wave of dramatic terrorist attacks is set in motion. Their goal: the complete and total collapse of the United States.
With the CIA's intelligence abilities hobbled, former Navy SEAL Team 6 member turned covert counterterrorism operative Scot Harvath launches an audacious plan to infiltrate the terrorists' network and prevent one of the biggest threats the United States has ever faced.
Simultaneously, a foreign wet work team has been sent to California. Their target: one of Hollywood's most famous filmmakers.
While working on a secret documentary project, movie producer Larry Salomon has unknowingly exposed one of the world's wealthiest and most politically connected powerbrokers - a man with a radical anti-American agenda poised to plunge the nation into deadly, irreversible chaos.
As the plots rocket to their pulse-pounding conclusion and the identities of the perpetrators are laid stunningly bare, Harvath will be left with only one means to save America. Unable to trust anyone, he will be forced to go Full Black.
Intense and frighteningly realistic, Full Black is, hands down, Brad Thor's most riveting thriller to date.
    Members Reviews:
    Not a supporter of torture
What disappointed you about Full Black?
I had never heard of, nor read a Brad Thor before. While I believe he is capable of writing a taut novel, I do not ascribe to many of the beliefs that the author (like torture) tries to make sound justifiable and I just could not buy it. There are not many Audible books that I do not finish but this is one of them. While the narrator is excellent and I ALMOST like the characters, even with an open mind this is a tough story to swallow.
What does Armand Schultz bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
The narrator was the one thing that kept me going for as long as I did.
You didnt love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
Not badly wirtten but very preachy in ideology.

Decent Ending to a Decent Trilogy
A good ending to the trilogy. Robert and Roger (pronounce it with a french accent) complete the conquest of Sicily and sounthern Italy. This has been interesting to me since I knew nothing of the Normans and what kind of influence they had on the world in their time. I have stood on the wall of a Norman keep in England, and seen Monty Python's impersonation in The Holy Grail, but never realized what they did other places
    Lives up to the series
This story is well in keeping with Jack Ludlow's historical fiction. The story is exciting and suspencfull for one who is not familiar withthe actual history. I find the suspence very good for te circulation. Moreover, I find the story spell binding. It is a great story and a great escape into the past for a few hours.
    Enjoyed Entire Series
Have greatly enjoyed this entire series about the Norman influence in Italy. Well written and well read. Will get all of Jack Ludlow's recordings.

    The Jack Ryan saga continues
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes, if they are a fan of tom Clancy his Jack Ryan character.
What did you like best about this story?
The development of Jack Ryan Jr.
    Miss U Tom
Steve Weber is excellent. Typical Clancey wordy wordy. Interesting story. Fell asleep the last couple chapters, but woke up and finished.
    Idioms?
CIA operative and former Navy SEAL Max Moore is fighting a battle on two fronts. He starts off fighting the Taleban in Pakistan; then transitions to the drug wars in Mexico. We had all the acronyms you can think of, sub plots that start and go no where, and other inconsistencies. Where's Jack Ryan? The funniest part was that the terrorists and drug lords used American idioms...research that and it would have been richer, Clancy. Would I read another Tom Clancy novel? Definitely!

    Critic Reviews:
Higgins is the masters master of World War II spycraft storytelling. (United Press International)
    Members Reviews:
Really 2 1/2 stars. An unconvincing, though partly factual, WW II thriller
Based on actual happenings in 1940 of World War II, when â apparently - the Nazis attempted to either lure or kidnap the Duke of Windsor (the former King Henry VIII) to their side. Their purpose was to later have the Duke serve as their puppet English king after they invaded and conquered England which, at the time, the Nazis and most of the world expected would be soon. It is not a spoiler - because it is made clear in the prologue â to say that in this version the Duke plays a very heroic role. (Contrary to his role in some accounts.)
This 1979 novel is very much in the mainstream of Higgins' many WW II suspense novels, but not one of the better ones. It was originally published under his early and frequent pen name Harry Patterson, close to his real name, Henry Patterson.
Involved in the novelâs plot are a young Jewish American blues singer (as talented as Billie Holiday), an ex-pat American club owner modeled on Rick Blaine (Bogart in Casablanca), brave African-American blues and jazz musicians and a highly-conflicted Nazi officer, Walter Schellenberg. In real life Schellenberg was at the center of the Nazi plan, though perhaps without full commitment. There are also some low-brow Nazi thugs and two of the most vile real-life Nazi leaders, Himmler and Heydrich.
The novel is filled with frequent but perfunctory thrills. I have liked some Higgins thrillers and found others, including this, just so-so. There is only moderate suspense here, since you seldom doubt that the thinly-drawn hero and heroine will get out of each dangerous situation soon and with relative ease. An adequate old-style thriller, but not very convincing despite the real background to the story.
fun read for a rainy weekend
Jack Higgins is a master storyteller. I have found each of the books that I've completed "time well spent". While he takes great liberties with "what might have happened", he may have given "the King" a little too much credit. Based on other documents and writings, I doubt that he had "the right stuff" to navigate successfully through Nazi intrigue as the Battle of Britain began. The characters in the novel were well drawn and it was fun to watch the author add more layers to each. It was a fun read for a rainy weekend.
this back story provides a good read.
This was an entertaining yarn. Higgins has combined true history with a fantasy tale to keep the reader interested. His books which utilize events during the second world war are written quite well.

    Excellent! A real page turner
Coonts is one of my favorite authors along with Clive Cussler. I think this is one of the best of all the books from both authors. Phil Gigante does a superb job of narrating and keeps you wanting to keep reading! If you like thrillers and mysteries, you'll love this one. One of the other nice things about this, is that you don't have to had read any of the previous books in the series. I give him a lot of credit for that with this being the ninth book. It is Definitely worth a credit and the time to read it. I can't wait to hear what Charlie and Desk 3 get into next. Based on this story, I'm pretty sure it will involve the Chinese. Don't pass this one up!
