    Different
Just a bit to unbelievable for me to accept. Is this where the series is going?
Much better than the last few
I solemnly appreciate the single narrator. The story was action packed. The ending, last 30 minutes seemed like the author just wanted to end the story. The story took the length to develop and then the various plots were ended abruptly. I think it could have gone on for another book or should have ended with the hostage in the helo and everyone looking for them. Good book. I'll keep listening.

    Rubbish
This was a complete waste of good money. Absolutely awful. I want my monry back!
    Wonderful books
Would you consider the audio edition of The Atrocity Archives to be better than the print version?
As good as the print edition, (read print first)
What other book might you compare The Atrocity Archives to, and why?
    Lovecraftian, leaky establishment type novel
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Made me laugh, cringe and bounce with excitement in equal measure, some of the beaurocracy is closer to reality than is entirely comfortable.
    Any additional comments?
Please make the other stories available audible.com has all of them including the sci-fi novels, don't force us to suffer with this void in our life
    Something special
If you could sum up The Atrocity Archives in three words, what would they be?
    Cold-war, love, bureaucracy
Who was your favorite character and why?
It has to be the protagonist. His journey is that of the classic fairy-story hero, and he is likeable!
Which character as performed by Jack Hawkins was your favourite?
    As above
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The revelation of the relationship between the protagonist's two male room mates.
    Any additional comments?
It is a well crafted, intelligent appraisal of how the British Secret Service would deal with the supernatural. It has a Fifties, Cold War feel, layered with the twenty-first century's real-world worries.
It is very gripping - a dynamic writing style, with real characterisation that grounds the very strange events into our recognisable real world. Only quibble is Stross's failure to fully characterise the female characters - a not uncommon problem with male authors, and Stross's women tend to fall into stereotypes; sex object(albeit with brains), bimbo or ball-breaker.
Charles Stross channels Ben Aaronovitch and Terry Pratchett in his younger period, and achieves somnething that is uniquely his own voice. He doesn't stray too far into the horror/torture/gross genre, but keeps it grounded with comedy, current references and the human drivers of love, loss and learning. This book is in two distinct parts - I believe they were originally published separately, but the repetition of setting back story isn't too cumbersome, and it all hangs together well.I'm definitely looking for more of his work.
I always knew maths was slightly evil
    Fantastic! Great performance, amazing story.

A Russian honey trap agent targets a young CIA operative to uncover a senior-ranking mole at the heart of the Russian Intelligence service.
Dominika Egorov, former prima ballerina, is sucked into the heart of Putin's Russia, the country she loved, and spat out as the twists and turns of betrayal and counter-betrayal unravel. American Nate Nash, idealistic and ambitious, handles the double agent, codenamed MARBLE, considered one of CIA's biggest assets. He needs to keep his identity secret for as long as the mole can keep supplying golden information. Will Dominika be able to unmask MARBLE, or will the mission see her faith destroyed in the country she has always passionately defended?
Jason Matthews retired after 33 years in the CIA's Directorate of Operations as a clandestine operations officer and senior manager. Matthews lives with his wife Suzanne, herself a retired 34-year veteran of the CIA, in Rancho Mirage, California. Treason is his first novel.
    Critic Reviews:
"Not since the good old days of the Cold War has a classic spy thriller like Red Sparrow come along. Jason Matthews is not making it up; he has lived this life and this story, and it shows on every page. High-level espionage, pulse-pounding danger, sex, double agents and double crosses. What more can any reader want?" (Nelson DeMill)
"A great and dangerous spy-game is being played today between Russian intelligence and the CIA. Very few people know about it, including many of our politicians in Washington. But Jason Matthews does, and his thrilling Red Sparrow takes us deep inside this treacherous world. He's an insider's insider. He knows the secrets. And he is also a masterful story-teller. I loved this book and could not put it down. Neither will you." (Vince Flynn)
"I read till 11 and woke up at 5 am to finish this book in three days. If it doesn't supplant The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo as the next mammoth read, and if it doesn't take its place alongside le Carré's The Spy Who Came in from the Cold, the love of literature and jaw-dropping thrills really is dead.... I have not read a more exciting, gripping novel in a long time." (Doug Stanton, author of Horse Soldiers)

    Great Story
This was a great story! Filled with intrigue, action and wonderful personal glimpses of the line of characters. Well Done Mr. Cooper!
    Excellent
Excellent book. I really enjoyed the audible book.
Since the author is a Marine, his descriptions of scenes and events are written from his own knowledge.
    Another Hit For C G Cooper! ,
I enjoyed the first book in this series, but this one surpassed that! Cooper has a way of bringing the characters in his books to life in a big way. I never saw the ending in this book coming. I can't wait for the next book in the series. Don't miss this one.
    Ok story Wrong Narrator
I have listened to the first two books in this series and won't be listening to any more. The story is simple and the story telling plain. The writing, character development, plots and action are all minimal. The characters aren't developed, they are plopped down whole into the story. There is no dribbling out of interesting details or characteristics as they are discovered - they are simply presented. The result is a loss of intrigue or discovery. Actually the story is very predictable. This is not a page turner. There is some action but no suspense, no excitement. The narrator doesn't help. His voice is all wrong - too deep and hard to hear, and he doesn't do voices well. In addition, this and the first book contain only male characters which is totally unrealistic. (the women are either dead or props like a waitress).

    Title: The Peking Target
    Subtitle: Quiller, Book 10

    Narrator: Antony Ferguson
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 8 hrs and 12 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 04-10-13
    Publisher: Audible Studios
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 13 votes
    Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, Espionage
    Publisher's Summary:
Two men stand in the shadow of a helicopter at midnight in London. One of them is Quiller, and he recalls his thoughts:
My hands were growing cold and a lightness was coming into my head, and I had the same thought that we all have when we're going into a mission: That we ought to get out now before it's too late, before the luck runs out and we're cast up in a Gulag labor camp or lashed blindfold to a post in Beirut or spread-eagled against a mountainside with a ripped parachute for a shroud and one last intimate friend plucking strength from us with his bone-white beak. But suddenly, this time, it was too late to get out. And Lord, I was afraid.
We are with him later, when he stands among the crowds massed in Peking for the funeral of the Chinese Premier:
The British delegates formed a short line along the side of the catafalque as their leader placed the Queen's wreath carefully against it; then suddenly the sky was filled with flowers, and the bloodied body of the secretary of state was hurled against me by the blast as the coffin exploded.
With him we meet Spur, the agent who will later be found lifeless in the coils of a boa constrictor in his lonely room above the streets of Seoul; and Li-fei, the girl with the cinnamon eyes and the delicate porcelain neck, in the last few days before a merciless act of ritual ends her life on the temple steps; and Tung Kuo-fong, the omnipotent diabolus who is the target for the mission; and Ferris, the man from London who is here with Quiller to try to save him as he faces his moment of truth:
For the first time I wondered how far gone I was.
From Ferris to London: They've tried five times to kill him and I don't think he can stand the strain...
From London to Ferris: There's no point in leaving him out there if he's losing his nerve...
I sat hunched with my eyes screwed shut, wondering how to face the man beside me when I opened them. Then Ferris asked me quietly:
Why don't you go home? Anyone else would.
I opened my eyes and took a breath and tried to get some steadiness into my voice.
    This is home.
    Where the brink is?
    That's right.
This is Adam Hall's tenth story of Quiller, the ultra-secret espionage agent, a "mission report" that takes the reader through the nerve-chilling labyrinth to the brink and back as he closes in on The Peking Target.

    AIN"T NO MOUNTAIN HIGH...
If there's a book in the series that might be a big screen hit with the kids, it's this one.
Never mind all the explosions and, yes a helicopter chase...it's what Q is up against this time:
    The supernatural.
At least near enough, in the personal and organizational capabilities of an nth-degree Dan scion of an ancient Triad, where his family's welfare is concerned. Enough to push the world off its axis, which is beginning to be the issue, as a body count of oblivious world figures is being created in order to...
Well, that's for our hero to figure out, and report on, if he can make it, literally, to the mountaintop.
The chapter covering the multi-way-communications there, via shortwave, is worth a class at Langley, say, or wherever, but presumably they have the whole Hall set by now.
    The best espionage ever.
I've been a reader all my life, 60 years now, and Hall is my favorite writer- hands down.

    Title: Dr Frigo
    Author: Eric Ambler

    Release date: 03-14-13
    Publisher: Audible Studios
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 11 votes
    Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, Espionage
    Publisher's Summary:
A coup d'etat in a Caribbean state causes a political storm in the region and even the seemingly impassive and impersonal Doctor Castillo, nicknamed Doctor Frigo, cannot escape the consequences. As things heat up, Frigo finds that both his profession and life are horribly at risk.
Eric Ambler was born into a family of entertainers and in his early years helped out as a puppeteer. However, he initially chose engineering as a full time career, although this quickly gave way to writing. In World War II he entered the army and looked likely to fight in the line, but was soon after commissioned and ended the war as assistant director of the army film unit and a lieutenant-colonel. This experience translated into civilian life and Ambler had a very successful career as a screenwriter, receiving an Academy Award for his work on The Cruel Sea, by Nicolas Monsarrat, in 1953.
Many of his own works have been filmed, the most famous probably being Light of Day, filmed as Topkapi under which title it is now published. He established a reputation as a thriller writer of extraordinary depth and originality and received many other accolades during his lifetime, including two Edgar Awards from The Mystery Writers of America (best novel for Topkapi and best biographical work for Here Lies Eric Ambler), and two Gold Dagger Awards from the Crime Writer's Association (Passage of Arms and The Levanter). Often credited as being the inventor of the modern political thriller, John Le Carre once described Ambler as "the source on which we all draw." A recurring theme in his works is the success of the well-meaning yet somewhat bungling amateur who triumphs in the face of both adversity and hardened professionals. Ambler wrote under his own name and also during the 1950's a series of novels as Eliot Reed, with Charles Rhodda. These are now published under the Ambler umbrella.
    Members Reviews:
Corruption in the Americas, Ambler Style.
    Full headline was as follows:
The Master of the political suspense thriller sends his everyday hero into the corruption and collusion of the Americas.
This has been my favorite Ambler book. The plot here is not as action filled as many of his other stories, but it more than makes up for it with more subtle pressures on his hero, still with the potential of lethal outcomes. Most of them are set in Europe or nearby continents. This was the first one I have read set in the Americas.
Here, he takes what is his trademark, a guy with an everyday profession, a western liberal set of values, puts him in situation that could make anyone's moral principles get tested, and would much better be dealt with by a spy or someone whose profession is, in fact, dealing with very slippery and morally ambiguous people with power. Now that America is on it's way to looking more like a "banana republic" itself, the tale has much more relevance than usual with anyone who's in an everyday profession wondering how they would act if their country went full bore neo-Fascist. Here is a manual, of sorts, how to survive both psychologically and socially if that happens.
The second key factor that makes this book especially interesting is that the protagonist isn't one of Ambler's totally everyday-profession protagonists. True he's a doctor. But he's in that profession because he's the son of an assassinated President of a Caribbean island.

    Not My Seal Team
After reading about the training, discipline and preparation Seals must endure this book is out of its element. It mocks what I've come to expect from this elite fighting force.
The plot is weak, the characters under developed, too many unbelievable situations and too much dialogue. The ending was a farce. Not worth a credit.
I did like the narrator but he couldn't save this mess.
    Well worth a listen
Is there anything you would change about this book?
Yes... I found it too similar in format to his previous book.
If youve listened to books by Don Mann and Ralph Pezzullo (contributor) before, how does this one compare?
Both are well done as It puts you into the seal mindset and makes you aware of the possible threats to security that never make the headlines
Have you listened to any of Peter Ganims other performances before? How does this one compare?
With all of his work it feels like Don Mann is telling you the story in a bar
Could you see SEAL Team Six: Hunt the Scorpion being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
Matt Damon,Annie Cruz, and Ethel Merman in no particular order

    Publisher's Summary:

Out for revenge, Sasha is determined to hunt down the leader of the al-Mujari, a man named Saif Ibn Mohammed al-Aziz. He was once Sashas ally in Saudi Arabia - and her lover. Saifs plot to overthrow the Saudi royals by using religious prophecies leads Sasha and her black-ops team to Islams holiest site, the Grand Mosque in Mecca. Can Sasha stop a brutal, power-hungry terrorist and save the Middle East from a holy war? Or will she be forced to become the madmans wife?
The third part of the Sasha Del Mira series, Arab Summer is an intense, intricate thriller that scrutinizes the depths of revenge, redemption, and the power of love.

    Another Good Sequel!
This newest David Lender novel once again features Sasha Del Mira. Sasha has marries Daniel Youngtblood from the first
novel "Trojan Horse". They are a happily married couple. Sasha and Daniel come home one day and are intercepted by a
gunman. Daniel is shot and killed. Sasha uses her CIA kill skills to shoot the gunman. After an investigation they discover
that the gunman is a contract killer sent by none other thanSaif Ibu Mohammed al Aziz al-Mujari(Saif).Saif is involved in a conspiracy to have Qahtani Ibu Mohammed al-Najd proclaimed as the Mahdi. After clearing all channels with Saudi Arabia and the CIA Sasha goes back to her CIA contract killer status. It is also discovered that Saif and Qahtani are now the head men of al-Mujari. This group intends to take Saudi Arabia over. This erupts into a huge shooting match. This is another good book by David Lender.
Finally, the next Sasha book ...
I've enjoyed Lender's other books and had been waiting to see if there'd be another book with Sasha from Trojan Horse. She has harder edges in this story - an avenging angel of sorts pursuing the man who had her husband murdered and who spearheads an Arab Spring uprising to take over Saudi Arabia for his own twisted goals. Plenty of action, some mayhem and surprising plot turns near the finale. This is a fast-paced novel, definitely exciting until the very end - Arab Summer will leave you satisfyingly entertained.
IS IT HUMAN RIGHTS OR MEANINGFUL REVOLUTION ?
A reminder that terrorism is really a world wide threat to world stability. While the story takes place in Sauda Arabia it cleverly outlines the emotions behind an Arab spring. Through the characters David paints the passion of those in other countries who struggle with their government and human rights tied togather with theb beliefs of islam. He outlines what countries will do to maintain their special interest in maintaining a status controllable rather than a unpredictable sweeping change in government.
    Four Stars
I enjoyed this book very much.
