    Publisher's Summary:
Bellamy Lyston was only 12 years old when her older sister Susan was killed on a stormy Memorial Day. Bellamy's fear of storms is a legacy of the tornado that destroyed the crime scene along with her memory of what really happened during the day's most devastating moments.
Now, 18 years later, Bellamy has written a sensational, best-selling novel based on Susan's murder. Because the book was inspired by the tragic event that still pains her family, she published it under a pseudonym to protect them from unwanted publicity. But when an opportunistic reporter for a tabloid newspaper discovers that the book is based on fact, Bellamy's identity is exposed along with the family scandal.
Moreover, Bellamy becomes the target of an unnamed assailant who either wants the truth about Susan's murder to remain unknown or, even more threatening, is determined to get vengeance for a man wrongfully accused and punished.
In order to identify her stalker, Bellamy must confront the ghosts of her past, including Dent Carter, Susan's wayward and reckless boyfriend - and an original suspect in the murder case. Dent, with this and other stains on his past, is intent on clearing his name, and he needs Bellamy's sealed memory to do it. But her safeguarded recollections - once unlocked - pose dangers that neither could foresee and put both their lives in peril.
As Bellamy delves deeper into the mystery surrounding Susan's slaying, she discovers disturbing elements of the crime which call into question the people she holds most dear. Haunted by partial memories, conflicted over her feelings for Dent, but determined to learn the truth, she won't stop until she reveals Susan's killer.
That is, unless Susan's killer strikes her first....

    Excellent!
After listening to, and really enjoying, "Envy" by Sandra Brown, I thought I would try this book. I reserve five stars for those books that I would definitely listen to again. This is one of those books. Both the story and the narrator kept me listening to the point where I hated to stop. I did not find the outcome to be predictable. I will definitely be looking for more of this author's work.
Sandra Brown - A Truly Awesome Talent
Low Pressure by Sandra Brown is another example of her awesome talent. Wow. I just marvel at her ability to set scenes and develop characters, and I love her use of the English language.
Stephen Lang is an amazing narrator. I had no trouble at all differentiating his voices between characters.
    Another credit worthy novelEnjoy!
    Kept us awake
My husband and I had to drive from Florida to New Jersey a few weeks ago, so I downloaded Low Pressure to listen to in the car. I wanted a story we both would be interested in, so I looked for a mystery. We listened to most of it on the way up and then finished it on the way back home. We stopped it and discussed the facts from time to time and made our predictions. It kept us awake and interested as we drove along I95 for hours and it was fun listening to it together!! I would read more of her books.
Swiss Cheese Model of error accumulation
The example of the Swiss Cheese Model for error analysis alone was worth the price of this audio. I had never heard of this model.

    Members Reviews:
    Excellent! The performance was great!
What did you love best about Alex Cross?
It's typical James Patterson and Alex Cross, which I love. I had tried a couple of fiction that I did not enjoy, so I tried this one to see if it was just me with fiction. I love James Patterson's Alex Cross series and this audio book did not disappoint.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Alex Cross?
Near the end, when things start to happen really fast, I could hear the narrator's voice building and getting faster with the action in the book - I really liked that
What about Peter J. Fernandez and Jay O. Sanders s performance did you like?
I really liked the two readers, it made it easy to distinguish between the two characters, and I really liked the voice of the villan. I found the audio captured my attention, and made the suspenseful or the exciting parts come alive for me. I could hear the excitement rise in the voice and reacted to it. Made the book very enjoyable for me.
    Any additional comments?
The only negative is that the book is a re-release of a previous book, and I did not realize this when I bought the Audible book. After listening, I went back to Audible and read the fine print which says it was previously released under another name. It was a book I had read a couple of years ago, so the story was not new, which was the only disappointment for me for this book. Had I known that, I would have chosen another book. Other than that, a great audio book! After listening I went to the theatre to see the movie with the same name, and although the movie somewhat followed the book, it was not the same story, many differences. I assumed if the book was re-released at the same time as the movie, then the movie would be the same story. There were some similarities, and the movie did not follow the book, so that was a bit disappointing. Not sure why the book was re-released, and it should have indicated this in bigger font or something at Audible.
    Great read!
Would you listen to Alex Cross again? Why?
Story twists keep you coming back for more.
What other book might you compare Alex Cross to and why?
John Grisham books. You hate to put them done without fininshing.
    Love it.
Would you consider the audio edition of Alex Cross to be better than the print version?
    YES
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
    YES
What does Peter J. Fernandez and Jay O.

    Members Reviews:
The Lizzy Gardner series is addictive
Dead Weight is Book 2 of Theresa Ragan's six novel Lizzy Gardner series. The series is best read in order, which I did not do. Book 6, when Lizzy leaves the private detective business, seems to complete the series. That is unfortunate because Lizzy and her weird group of cohorts are really interesting as are her cases.
Kate Rudd, who narrates the entire series, is one of the best.
    Typical but Good
If you could sum up Dead Weight in three words, what would they be?
    Good Not Great
What did you like best about this story?
    It moved fairly quickly.
Which character as performed by Kate Rudd was your favorite?
Hailey - I wish there was more Hailey.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
    Dying to be thin?
    keeps you listening
Would you consider the audio edition of Dead Weight to be better than the print version?
I didn't read the print version
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
    It's a pretty good mystery.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
This is the second book I've listened to in the series. I do enjoy the books, but the reader can be a bit distracting at times. It's like she's trying to read to a five-year old at times.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Sitting? That's the whole point of audiobooks, so we don't have to sit.
    Any additional comments?
I like Kate Rudd. I just with she would relax a little in her reading. Sometimes it's like she's trying to read to a child.
Not as good as the first, but still worth a listen
I had no sooner finished book 1, Abducted, when I bought books 2 and 3. I liked this book, but not as much as the first.
I multi-task while I listen, and change the type of books I read depending on my activity and need to concentrate on the task vs. the book. This book required a little more attention, particularly in the beginning where you get the set up of the two plot threads.
While some readers found the book disjointed because of the two stories, I did not. It seemed perfectly reasonable that a PI would work on multiple cases simultaneously, especially when she has other employees. However, I did have to go back and remind myself which secondary characters were in which thread at one point because I hadn't committed it well enough in my head the first go-round.

Length: 18 hrs and 11 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 07-17-12

Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 2279 votes
Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, Modern Detective
    Publisher's Summary:
Dave Robicheaux is back, in a gorgeously written, visceral thriller by James Lee Burke, the heavy weight champ, a great American novelist whose work, taken individually or as a whole, is unsurpassed (Michael Connelly).
Creole Belle begins where the last book in the Dave Robicheaux series, The Glass Rainbow, ended. Dave is in a recovery unit in New Orleans, where a Creole girl named Tee Jolie Melton visits him and leaves him an iPod with the country blues song "Creole Belle" on it. Then she disappears. Dave becomes obsessed with the song and the memory of Tee Jolie and goes in search of her sister, who later turns up inside a block of ice floating in the Gulf. Meanwhile, there has been an oil well blowout on the Gulf, threatening the cherished environs of the bayous.
Creole Belle is James Lee Burke at his very best, with beloved series hero Dave Robicheaux leading the charge against the destruction of both the land and the people he has sworn to protect.
    Critic Reviews:
This tale plays out much like
The Glass Rainbowintimations of mortality; melancholic musing on the pillaging of once-Edenic South Louisiana; cathartic, guns-blazing climaxbut, as always, Burke brings something new to the table...Dave and Clete may still be unbowed, but they are certainly brokenand all the more interesting for it. (

Another stunner from a modern master. (
    Publishers Weekly)
Great news for readers who feared that Burke had left Iberia Parish Sheriffs Deputy Dave Robicheaux dying at the end of The Glass Rainbow (2010); Dave and his old friend Clete Purcel are back for an even more heaven-storming round of homicide, New Orleansstyle.... A darkly magnificent treat for Daves legion of admirers. (

Burke & Patton -- Synergistic Phenomenon
Two tops in their fields bring their A-game to this production and the result of this perfect union is Creole Belle. Burke is so highly regarded in the literary world that any praise seems redundant and almost cliche; if you've read his works, you know this already. One critic said that "nobody can touch Burke in lyrical expression..." Will Patton, with his smart interpretation skills, is one of the best narrators in the business. With a voice rich in texture and hypnotic appeal, he enhances everything I've heard him read. The two of them together are a match made in audible heaven. I could listen to this collaboration and be lost in words and voice - almost forget to hear the story if it wasn't so explosive.
I'm assuming that readers of this 19th in the Robicheaux series know the basics. This book picks up at The Glass Rainbow's conclusion, and begins a new adventure for the well-seasoned team of Dave Robicheaux and Clete Purcel. A darker and more complex plot than previous books, involving drug runners, human trafficking, art forgery, Nazi war criminals, the Gulf oil *spill,* and as always...a cast of characters as wonderful as their names, and the ruination of Robicheaux's beloved Louisiana wetlands. (With some fascinating, and alarming, insights in to oil rigs - Burke himself having worked on oil rigs in the gulf). Burke has stated that Dave and Clete are "actually one character; they are opposite sides of the same coin," and this time he focuses more sharply on Clete, revealing the differences, and the similarities, in this duo.

    Publisher's Summary:
After narrowly surviving his last operation, Gabriel Allon, the wayward son of Israeli intelligence, has taken refuge behind the walls of the Vatican, where he is restoring one of Caravaggio's greatest masterpieces. But early one morning, he is summoned to St. Peter's Basilica by Monsignor Luigi Donati, the all-powerful private secretary to his Holiness Pope Paul VII. The body of a beautiful woman lies broken beneath Michelangelo's magnificent dome.
The Vatican police suspect suicide, though Gabriel believes otherwise. So, it seems, does Donati. But the monsignor is fearful that a public inquiry might inflict another scandal on the Church, and so he calls upon Gabriel to quietly pursue the truth - with one caveat.
"Rule number one at the Vatican," Donati said. "Don't ask too many questions."
Gabriel learns that the dead woman had uncovered a dangerous secret - a secret that threatens a global criminal enterprise that is looting timeless treasures of antiquity and selling them to the highest bidder. But there is more to this network than just greed. A mysterious operative is plotting an act of sabotage that will plunge the world into a conflict of apocalyptic proportions....

    Fact or Fiction
I felt like I was watching an entire season of Homeland. Daniel Silva is a master storyteller and his protagonist, the retired Israeli spy turned art restorer, Gabriel Alon, is constantly being jolted out of retirement to foil yet another murder and solve another mystery. Gabriel jumps from book to book from plot to plot, the quintessential good guy with plenty of guts, charisma and brains.
In this book Gabriel is busy restoring a Caravaggio in the Vatican when he is called to solve the murder of Dr. Claudia Andreatti who is found on the marble floor of St. Peters Basilica. Her death, masked as a suicide, looks suspicious. Pope Paul VII put Monsignor Donati, his secretary and right hand man on the case. Enter, Gabriel Alon who carefully examines the body, surroundings and circumstance and springs into action.
Familiar characters from Silvas previous novels come into play, Ari Sharom, Uzi Navot and Eli Lavon and of course Gabriels second wife Chiara.
Alons search for the murderer takes him from Rome to Paris, Denmark, Vienna, Berlin and of course Israel. His investigation leads him to foil terrorist attacks carefully planned by Hezbollah. There was even a torture scene, which brought to mind the movie Zero Dark Thirty.
This book is steeped in the conflict of the Middle East, and it brings forward the reality of the region and the very real problems Israel is up against from neighbouring terrorists. To be honest I felt quite unnerved at the end of Fallen Angel. Although Silvas book is fiction, it hits a little too close to home, and confirms the reality of what is happening to our world. Through the eyes and actions of his characters, Silva verifies that the Middle East war is very real. That part is not fiction.
I finished this book on January 27, which is International Holocaust Remembrance Day. Being a daughter of two holocaust survivors, Fallen Angel unnerved me.

    Publisher's Summary:
Lucas Davenport has seen many terrible murder scenes. This is one of the worst. In the small Minnesota town of Deephaven, an entire family has been killed - husband, wife, two daughters, dogs.
Theres something about the scene that pokes at Lucass cop instincts - it looks an awful lot like the kind of scorched-earth retribution hes seen in drug killings sometimes. But this is a seriously upscale town, and the husband was an executive vice president at a big bank. It just doesnt seem to fit.
Until it does. And where it leads Lucas will take him into the darkest nightmare of his life.

Sandford Gives A Jaw Dropping Ending!
Would you listen to Stolen Prey again? Why?
I'm already listening to it for a second time, I think there may be a third.
What did you like best about this story?
It had me seriously involved within the first five minutes. I'm so impressed with how the depth of the two stories had me wanting to keep reading because I just needed to know what was going to happen next.
What does Richard Ferrone bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
Ferrone needs to work on his breathing, it was slightly distracting but his overall performance was very well done ... As usual.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
The best of the entire series.
    Any additional comments?
I have been reading Davenport for years, never missed a release. Some have Impressed me and some not so much. This one is by far his best. I was so shocked at the end that I had to listen to it three times.
    Sanford writes another winner!
I have eagerly awaited this latest book in the Lucas Davenport series and I was not dissappointed. I really would have liked to give in 4 1/2 stars, if it were possible. I very seldom give 5 stars. I save those for extraordinary books (like A Prayer for Owen Meany, Angela's Ashes, and Pride and Prejudice - to name a few).
Lucas and Weather now have three children - Letty (adopted), Sam and a new baby girl. There was no mention of Lucas's daughter by Jenny. I really like the character Letty, and she plays an important role in this book .Most of the reoccuring characters from previous Davenport books appear in Stolen Prey.
A random crime against Lucas begins the book, followed by an especially gruesome murder of a family. Lucas in involved in investigating the crime and the murders. The murders involve a cruel and dangerous gang from Mexico. The action is fast paced. The dialogue is snappy and witty. Lucas is his typical macho self and still has his personal code of ethics/morals. The narrator does a very good job with this book.
I found myself torn about whom was responsible for the murders and violence. Should I blame the relative harmless people who unknowlingly set the viscious gang in motion, or do I blame the viscious gang who performed the attacks - or both?
Great book, and it could stand alone if you don't mind references to events or people from previous books. However I believe it would be even more enjoyable if you have been keeping up with the series from the beginning, as I have. Even though I have read or listened to every book in the Lucas Davenport series, there were some references to prevous events that I don't recall. It makes me want to go revisit previous Davenport books.

    Your best friend...
Lindsay Boxer is pregnant at last! But her work doesn't slow for a second. When millionaire Chaz Smith is mercilessly gunned down, she discovers that the murder weapon is linked to the deaths of four of San Francisco's most untouchable criminals. And it was taken from her own department's evidence locker. Anyone could be the killer - even her closest friends.
    Or a vicious killer?
Lindsay is called next to the most bizarre crime scene she's ever seen: two bodiless heads elaborately displayed in the garden of a world-famous actor. Another head is unearthed in the garden, and Lindsay realizes that the ground could hide hundreds of victims.
You won't know until the 11th hour
A reporter launches a series of vicious articles about the cases and Lindsay's personal life is laid bare. But this time she has no one to turn to - especially not Joe. 11th Hour is the most shocking, most emotional, and most thrilling Women's Murder Club novel ever.
    Members Reviews:
    Missing Something...
James Patterson became a quick favorite when I began to read the Alex Cross series, then I discovered the Women's Murder Club and I started from the beginning. The first books in the WMC series were very thought out and detailed. In the 11th Hour things felt rushed, the two crime story lines did not mesh well. I would rather wait longer for a book release and enjoy the quality of the work instead of spending time and money on a work that I don't find enjoyable and may cause to delay purchasing new books or not reading at all.
    Disappointed about narrarator
What did you love best about 11th Hour?
Not finished with the book yet. The story is good so far but the different voices are distracting...
What three words best describe January LaVoy???s voice?
After listening to Carolyn McCormick for 10 books, it was very disappointing to have a new narrator. All of the characters voices are different that what I am used to hearing. I can no longer tell who is speaking just by the voice I have to wait until the narrator says its Lindsay or Cindy.
    Narration is Extremely Disappointing.
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Series is terrific. Draws you in and you want to know what happens next.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
Characters all sound alike. You can't tell when they transition until she identifies them by name. Bring back Carolyn!
    Any additional comments?
Won't buy another book narrated by this narrarator. Sorry.
    Average
My computer crashed and it was been several weeks getting in fixed. I was running out of books on my Ipad and was pacing myself and adding more books of Cd as well as e-books to my routine. I was feeling like an addict watching the supply get low. Amazing how much Audible audiobooks are part of my life since I retired.
This is just a run of the mill average story but I like that the story takes place in San Francisco and that the Women's Murder Club is still working together. But I am getting very tired of serial killers. Can we not just have a single interesting murder anymore!
The interaction between the murder club members makes this story flow and Boxer is pregnant and emotional. Enjoyed the problem with the young reporter, it added some comic relief to the story like how they got back at him at the end of the story.

    Publisher's Summary:
In Eyes of Prey, Bekker, an insane pathologist who experiments with his patients pain thresholds, is finally brought down by an unrelenting Lucas Davenport, who brutally maims the doctors beautiful face but leaves him alive. You should have killed me, were Bekkers parting and prophetic words.
In this sequel to Eyes of Prey, Bekker endures the indignities and horrors of imprisonment, taking comfort in the fact that it is only a matter of time before he will make Lucas Davenport pay.

    Couldn't Stop Listening
I just couldn't stop listening to this book. The plot and exposition, especially the sub-plot about the "Robin Hood" cops just held me until it was over. It also got me thinking.
This story takes place mostly in NYC during the last days of the Dinkins administration, when the city is on the brink of falling apart. The subplot about the Robin Hood cops who decide to take out some of the more egregious low-lifes making the city a hell-hole, presents some great arguments both pro & con. However, history shows that when the next administration, headed by Rudy Giuliani came in and started enforcing ALL the laws, especially the quality of life laws lawlessness went way down. The city now seems quite decent. This kept running through my head all the while reading the book.
I used to live in NY state, not too far from the city and saw all this happen, so the story resonates with me, and I could understand the discouragement of those cops.
Never too late to love Sandford
There's really no need to review this NYC cop thriller because everyone knows Sandford's the bomb, but if you're on the fence about using a credit for this title, don't hesitate. Richard Ferrone expertly spins the Lucas Davenport tale and Sandford doesn't disappoint. Eerie bad guy. Cheeky good guy. Nutty dialogue. Edge of your seat fare. Click add to cart and you'll be happy.
So I finally broke down and bought this book . . .
in spite of the cover illustration. I wasn't going to, since I figured any book represented by that illustration would have to be sickening. I had a whole day to wait for release of the latest in the series, though, and this was the only one I didn't have, and I figured how awful could a Davenport book really be? So I took a chance, and the book is fine, though the subject matter with all the police problems was really nerve-wracking, and the psycho was still a psycho. By the end of the book I still couldn't figure out why they would put such a cover on it. I looked at the books on Amazon, and the hard copies and Kindle version have civilized covers, so why does the audio copy have to have such junk as it's illustration? It seems like some sort of anti-audio discrimination. Can't Audible do something about that? If they'd change it, I'd go back and add a couple of stars.
    Frustrating.
I love Lucas Davenport -- which is why I don't like this book at all.
The Lucas Davenport I like is the smart, wise-cracking, deucedly clever cop -- I love his city as he describes it, the guys he works for, his friends and family -- this is a little early for Weather, but...

Have you listened to any of Richard Ferrones other performances before? How does this one compare?
I've only heard him as the narrator of this series and so far, I can't imagine another narrator.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I found myself getting emotional when Weather described her parents and when the yellow haired girl ... (don't want to spoil it!)
    Any additional comments?
Great. Can't wait for the next one.
So glad this one came out on audible.
I'd skipped this one because it wasn't out on audible. I had the intention of going back latter and getting a kindle copy. Then it popped up last week and I grabbed it up. I'm so glad it came through on audible before I bought the kindle copy. This was really good. Lots of tension. Great story.
Richard Ferrone does a really good job narrating the series. I'm glad it looks like he's doing the entire series.
There are still some holes in front of me in this series and hopefully they'll fill in before I get to them.
... when Lucas met Winter ...
Would you listen to Winter Prey again? Why?
Sure, I enjoy a re-listen to the entire Prey series, you pick up little things you may have missed or look forward to the scenes & dialog that you remember. Either way, while waiting for the NEXT prey novel I enjoy a revisit to Minneapolis any time.
What did you like best about this story?
Winter Prey has a good plot line of its own to keep your interest, but this is the one where Lucas meets Weather. It adds to his back story and gives you more insight to Lucas' personal life.
Have you listened to any of Richard Ferrones other performances before? How does this one compare?
Many ... he is a wonderful narrator, and for me ... he IS Lucas Davenport. He delivers Lucas' lines exactly how I expect them to be spoken.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Lucas gets shot, in the throat ... he can't breathe ... can Weather step in, in time ...
    Any additional comments?
Everyone should add the Prey series to their wish lists.
    Ferrone does excellent narration!
Great book! Loved the twists and turns in this one.
