Time travel and history are mashed up again!

Hannah does a fine job of explaining historical "anomalies" in this creative take on time travel. Brush-ups with famous figures and events are combined with action and intrigue, in one of the more entertaining offers I have listened to in some time.

The performance is above average as well, with consistent, powerful characters that unfold as the story does.

Hight recommended, esp. for Time Travel fans.

Fantastic Book

I read this book when it was first released. An outstanding mix of time travel sci-fi and accurate historical fiction... mixed with action that keeps you on the edge of your seat. I can't recommend this enough. NOW, with this audio format, I get to experience it again, and just allow the movie to play in my head

Assassins, Presidents, Action, and Historial Accur

This was a fantastic story, with a great narration. It's a compelling story of assassins who travel through time to prevent bad things from happening in our history. The author does a brilliant job with historical accuracy, some events I didn't know about and were intriguing enough for me to want to do further research. The concept of the story is, there is one rouge assassin apprentice to goes back into time and messes with the timeline, and they have to catch the person before they mess up too much. It seems to focus a lot on assassinations of presidents for this book. I'm looking forward to checking out the rest of the series, and am waiting for the rest to come out in audio.

Great story line...needs writing polish.

Really enjoyed the story line and mix with history a great premise. Writing a bit underwhelming and clipped. Needs some character enhancement and polish. Action scenes could use some additional expansion. Feels like a first book. An editor would help some.

I got the feeling I would write like this when listening to the story. I am not a writer which is evident by my review. A great try with experience these will definitely get better.

Look forward to the follow-up!

I found myself wondering if i wanted to be a cleaner or an assassin. I love stories that are able to bring into part of the whole picture. The story is first rate. The story was able to attend my love of history and suspense. Great book

The right woman for the job...

Elizabeth Cruze is a woman on a mission. Not just out to start a war, but to win it and kill all those deserving it. This is a story of a complicated woman with a past that has set her on the path to her future.

Neal Locke is a man on a mission as well. To stop Cruze. Not an easy job, and one that doesn't go as expected.

An excellent story, both in its writing and this audio reading. Adventure. Secrets. Twists. Well-paced sci-fi action. Perfect for passing the time on a long trip!

Virtues is a bad ass story about a strong woman

From the first word to the last it keeps you on your toes and shows what a bad ass woman can do to get what she wants no matter what she encounters. Love it and I am listening to again as I write this review. Best yet

What did you love best about Virtues of the Vicious?

Starting with a main character that I was not sure I liked, the story developed into tale where I wanted to know what happened, and wanted to see what happened to these people. It really grabbed me.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Virtues of the Vicious?

The slow building and development of the crew of the strangers into a team.

Which character as performed by A. T. Shore was your favorite?

My favorite character was Pie, the bartender/crew cook who wandered into the scene, and then became the emotional center of the group.

A Real Airlock Buttkicker

What did you like best about Virtues of the Vicious? What did you like least?

Our heroine, Elizabeth Cruze, reminds me of Lara Croft in outer space, armed with as many F-bombs and weapons as the guys she runs around with. I thought the technical aspects of the world building was rendered well, but I found myself getting lost between airlocks from time to time, and the profanity seems to function more for special effect. Would like to know more about Cruze's past.

Would you recommend Virtues of the Vicious to your friends? Why or why not?

I would recommend this book if you enjoy semi-hard sci-fi entailing futuristic set pieces, space ships, and gadgets, and hot chicks wielding deadly blasters.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

I listened to the audio version, narrated by A.T. Shore. The voice acting and sound quality are as good as any audio book I've heard. I think a woman's voice works best for this story.

Could you see Virtues of the Vicious being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

This story could easily be translated into a movie or media streaming series. I think Martin Wilsey should make a cameo as one of the characters who browbeats Cruze.

It was ok

I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

This was an OK book. It wasn't great, but it wasn't terrible either. I know this isn't that helpful as a review, but I'm having trouble quantifying it. I found the premise of a technology being able to generate luck interesting, especially as it uses the concept of conservation of energy (or mass) to "explain" what the computer is doing. In other words, the author seems to relate luck to a form of energy or matter. It can't be created from nothing, it must be taken from somewhere. I think, for me, the missing piece that would have made this book better was the suspense. It was slow and didn't really world/character build very well. The narrator kept my interest, though, so it wasn't a "well there's x number of hours I can't get back." Again, it was just OK to me.

Conservation of Luck

Oh I really really liked this book! Fun, fun,fun!

First it was so very original! I loved the characters Ella and Jayden. Ella was a riot! I pictured her as Zooey Deschanel - pretty, smary, and very quirky and snarky! Just the way I love my characters.

You would think a fiction book about quantum physics... eehhh not for me - but it was fun, interesting and not so much about physics! LOL right up my alley. The biog question - can you change your

luck? Hmm interesting thought. But I also liked that this was also about Ella's gambling, her MIA father, her friendships and love interests, or lack of. So there were a lot of spider webs in this story.

OK - my favorite part of the story - The narrator (Kathryn Supina)! OMG!!! I loved her! I have a problem with narrators - I don't usually like them. So to finally find one that I love. Oh yay! She totally made the book for me. I loved her voice and the way she read. I could really picture Ella. Great job!

Three and a Half stars

I was expecting some sort of fantasy due to the description, but this is a contempary book with a girl who has a lot of bad luck, while others have all the luck. I can relate to this in some ways.

The plot is interesting but I just found it slow going.

Great book DESTROYED by a dreadful narration!

This is a continuation of the Xeelee sequence and I have read all the previous books and thoroughly enjoyed them. This one is no exception. It's amazing!

However, I had to give up on the audible version after the first five chapters so that I could read it myself. The narrator is dreadful!!!

If you want to listen to it then you will have to play it back at at least double the speed just so that it is read at close to normal speed. The narrators chosen speed of reading is sloooow! He pauses for aeons between sentences and often in the middle of sentences too.

There's no real attempt to perform the voices either. Sometimes he will start a sentence in a slightly different voice but by the end of the sentence he has reverted back to his normal voice - if you could describe his voice as normal.

I've always pronounced Xeelee as Zeelee as does everyone I know. I even pronounced it that way when talking to Stephen Baxter directly and he didn't correct me so I presume that is the way it should be pronounced but this guy chooses to pronounce it in the same way that Americans pronounce the country Chile - "ChiLay" - Ridiculous!

The book is great - buy it, read it and you'll love it but if you must have it in audio format - buy the book and ask a friend to read it for you. Don't buy Dudley Hinton's perversion of the book.

In fact, if this is anything to go by, I wouldn't buy any book narrated by Dudley Hinton - I'd rather listen to nails scraped down a blackboard!

Black Legion Keeps Getting Better!

If you've read this series earlier books and enjoyed them, then this is a must-read. One of the things I enjoy about the author's books is how invested you become in the characters. Xenophon's evolution is more profound in this edition and Michael G. Thomas is one of the very best at writing combat and action sequences in such a way that you can "see them clearly in your mind". The story is rich in action, space battles, personal tales and you will be rooting for whoever your favorites are along the way. There is a blockbuster ending to this book that will make your wonder where the author will take the next book in this series. The editing is improving as well... Honestly, the best book in the series.

A strange start

The first 2 books read well with few mistakes. This one lacked adult supervision and catered more to middle school aged students regarding fights to no other purpose than to verify one character doesn't like the other, and ended with a very unsound strategy. I know the conclusion had to happen to reach this aspect of the series, but the way it came about makes anyone with a smidgen of military understanding cringe.

I look foreword to reading what will require a minimum of 2 more books to finalize the endgame and just hope the author spends a little less time repeating phrases and tactics, and more towards developing the characters and strategies.

Slow on the uptake on this one.

I just noticed that I had not given a review on this book. Although I had just read it for the third time. MGT MGT MGT What do I got ta do son. This can not be the final book of this series can it?? I do so hope not. I do realize that sometimes books wind up stopping not where you wish but just where they stop. I really do hope that xenon does not stop at this point. I did think that the addition of A added to the whole story line so much and I was hoping that just maybe thin from A to X might start working out but then who knows. I have not started to read the larger story from hence this book is paraphrased. I am waiting with baited breath for some indication of a following set of books to go with this small Series of books.

I said almost six years ago that when Gustavo Bondoni's enthusiasm became discipined, he'd be a five-star author. It has, he is.

Cather said, "There are only two or three human stories, and they go on repeating themselves as fiercely as if they had never happened before." Masterfully written, Siege is in essence War of the Worlds fiercely retold with characters who experience it as if it had never happened before. Bondoni does indeed make it new.

Great story. Full of suspense and betrayal. Challenge to try to stay hidden as enemy comes closer leading to deadly struggle.

Great story. Really liked the mentality it takes human survivors who have to hide to survive. However they are not as hidden as they thought. Interesting how computers are both enemies and possible allies, and how they can be interacted with. Lot of anxiety and stress that is well defined and believable.

Compelling story!! Great author!

Loved it. For me it was a page turner from the start. Bondoni"s narration style combines good storytelling skills, old-school sci-fi plot twists and refreshing creativeness. This world he has created opens the door to many future spinoffs and sequels (can't wait for more!). A great read!

Boring, Hackneyed Progressive Political Agenda Driven SciFi

"Siege," authored by Mr. Gustavo Bondoni, is a tiresome, plodding, poorly written reworking of numerous concepts and themes, much better expressed by others.

Reading the book became a chore, a task, rather than an enjoyment. Finally, at 64% in, I called it, enough-DNF.

The far future story, has humanity cowering in six (6) colonies, isolated near the galactic core, hopefully undiscoverable due to the juxtaposition of various black holes, stellar clouds, and the deep subterranean conclaves. harboring the millions of remaining humans. Lost wars against humans who uploaded their consciousness into mainframes, aliens who lobotomizes humans for use as slaves, and aliens who ingest humans for protein, are the cause for humanity's low state. A splinter group of digitalized humans approach, hoping for an alliance, in order to save themselves from "The Oneness," and to assist corporeal humans survive.

Bluntly, it is all very plodding, unimaginative, hackneyed, and most importantly, poorly written. Mr. Bondoni, the author, in his author's "blurb," lists his ability to speak seven (7) languages and being a prolific writer.

Futuristic science fiction

Is there anything you would change about this book?

I got a little confused with some of the alien types, though maybe reading some of the previous books might help with that.

What about Jessica Manns performance did you like?

It was a fairly good reading, light-hearted with a sense of humour in places. I wasn't sure about a couple of the accents though.

This is futuristic science fiction with lots of aliens and interplanetary travel.

Phoebe has somehow ended up in the future and needs to get back to 1821 with a cure for her sick mother. She's on the run, being tracked by more than one faction and doesn't know who she can trust. I was left hanging a bit at the end but enjoyed the epilogue.

I enjoyed this book very much . The characters were easy to like and the interaction between the characters was interesting. I would recommend this to anyone who would enjoy distopian landscapes and magical beings.
