ok PEOPLE? WAIT FOR THE BUNDLE to come out or your gonna be ticked.

ok. i liked the story well enough, note the word "STORY" hee. when i read a book? i read a book. i REALLY do not like when i expect a BOOK and get a brief story. thanks but no. it doesn't matter to me at this point how "good" the story was, what matters is that it was unfinished in my ever so humble opinion.

it should be BLAZINGLY pointed out right under the title of the STORY that it is part of a serial type bs thing.

yeah the STORY was pretty decent if a bit long winded descriptive like, still readable, but the whole "serial" thing? that just pisses me off. it's like (NO OFFENSE TO THE AUTHOR HERE) trying to get more $ out of folks by breaking an ACTUAL BOOK into parts an selling them separately even if the 1st is offered for free or very little. i do like this author and have many of his BOOKS and or Bundles. but for this? thanks but no. i'll wait till the bloody damn thing is done and go buy the bundle, most likely on a HUGE discount at some point IF i even want to bother with it again.

this type of serialization thing? yeah that's gonna end up costing all parties, because people will get sick of it eventually. they'll go buy WHOLE books and not bother with this type of thing.

Waiting To Read the Next Installment.

This fast paced story has a compelling premise and I am very interested in reading more to find out what happens in the story. The story is well written and very action oriented. I am left with many questions I need to have answered. Unfortunately, I had a problem with the characters in the story and how I didnât find them to be very believable or even likable. This is why my star rating isnât higher. As a reader, I can deal with many little things that may happen in a story that come across as either a person being lucky or as just part of the story. However, with this story supposed to be âworst case scenarioâ possible, I found that the characters being able to survive many major injuries and still be as active as they were to cross my credibility line. I will continue to read this story because I am interested and hope that there will be a shift in the characters personalities.

loved the book

loved the book, was very fast paced and kept me on the edge of my seat. Why the low ratings? 80 pages is not a book, it's a long preview. Then it abruptly stopped. For a fee, you could finish reading the book. To me, that's misleading. Yes I loved the start of the book and would have continued, but I felt duped. They should have made that clear when I got the book. So, now to finish, I have to buy it.

What did you love best about Lightning: Fighting the Living Dead?

I am loving this story about the 2 types of dead and the isolation that the characters are always dealing with in this book. It really pits them again all odds and I like that in my zombie books.

The Undead Rain series is a winner!

Light and fun!

It's pretty much what you think it is - monsters in space. The worldbuilding is top notch, the characters are, dare I say, relatable and likeable, it's fun and it's funny. A perfect "lite" read. Stephen Hoye does a great job, particularly with the leading, ennui-soaked zombie - not the easiest character to enliven! Good writing and excellent reading.

Different. But Good

This is definitely different from my favorite author Mercedes Lackey! But I think she could write about paint drying or grass growing and make a best seller from it! That's not to say this book is anything as dull as paint drying. Absolutely opposite! It's really an awesome spin from your regular zombie, vampire and all those other creatures from our nightmares! Throw in some space travel and you got the just of it! It's awesome! I was actually pulling for the zombies! How insane is that? That is just Mercedes Lackey doing her magic!

Great second book!

Having loved book 1, I was really looking forward to listening to this one and couldn't wait to start it. Book 1 was all about the spiders and the virus, book 2 is about the ramifications of this and the aftermath of the Zombie outbreak.

As if Zombies and deadly spiders and virus carrying mosquitoes weren't enough, what's left of the human race have to try to survive the killing of bees and the poisoning of the soil so that now, crops won't grow and flowers etc won't be pollinated! All the while evading the man eating Zombies!!

Meanwhile, Kala finally meets up with new people and together, they have to try to get outside the quarantined area before it's too late. How can she and her companions escape when the place is heavily fortified and protected by the army!

Once again, the author has created an action packed, nail biting and addicting read. The plot is fast paced and gripping, the characters are all we developed and written and it's easy to become invested in their story. I can not wait to see what else the author will come up with for these characters.

Melanie Ewbank did a great job with the narration. She was easy to listen to and held my attention throughout.

coming full circle?

Sixteen year old Kala is determined that she and her new friends will survive this new zombie epidemic brought on by mosquitos. But it is not only the Zombies the new world must recover from because in trying to wipeout the disease carrying mosquitos the people have started a major chain reaction of killing off the food supply. The circle of life has been destroyed, but can it be fixed? Humm, Zika maybe?

This book although sci-fi makes you think about the Zika and what really should be done and how far we should go to eradicate such diseases. The author is very insightful and has a action packed, suspenseful great book. Narrator, Melanie Ewbank does a great job on all of the characters, and I just love narrators like her that take the time to make the story. They read each character as if they are that person at that time and it makes you the listener feel as though you are there in the middle and it is happening right then and it is awesome. Thank you for that experience, I hope to come across more of your works in the future.

A fun read if you like Steampunk/Dystopian fantasy.

I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley in return for an honest review. Closer to 3.5 stars. On a far-future earth, the population of the world has been divided into various free tribes and city-states in and around the area of what would now be considered the Pacific Northwest and California. Those who inhabit these areas are the survivors of a great cataclysm which occurred two thousand years earlier when huge glaciers began encroaching and grinding on the northern continents. This encroachment sent those in its path searching for habitable regions where they could survive and not be subject to freezing temperatures and starvation. Another result of this glacial advancement southward was a catastrophic war which broke out between the great nation across the western sea called The Unified Tribes of the Black Cross and that of North America called The Unified Tribes of the White Star. The warriors of the nation from across the sea brought with them more than warfare however, and a violent strain of influenza quickly broke out, eradicating almost the entire population of the world. I wasn't sure what to expect. This book had a really good blend of action, humor, heartbreak. I hope more is to come from this group of zombie killers. I recieved this audiobook from Audiobook Boom for my unbiased review.

Entertaining.

The army are slowly trying to take back the US after the Zombie outbreak. Scouting parties made up of soldiers, ex soldiers and civilians are sent on recon to different places. Their job is to relay information back to command. In this we follow one such recon team, and get a glimpse on what it could be like to take back America from Zombies!

This was a lot of fun!! When a Zombie novel can make you laugh, you know it's going to be good ;) I absolutely loved the comradeship between the characters and the witty banter. Only thing was, I wish we got a little more in depth with the characters. I wanted to know more about them and their stories.

The plot and story development is where this shines. In most ever other Zombie story, we see that the infrastructure is always gone, but in this one, we see that they have managed to patch up a lot of that infrastructure and have it working. It was a nice change. I also liked that the scout teams have safe houses where they can weather the storm! It was well written, well thought out and an easy and fun story to read.

The narrator, did a decent job with the narration. He had a few different tones and voices and used them well. I wanted a little more performance from him though, and thought he could have put a little more soul into it. But I still enjoyed his reading of it and look forward to more.

Post apocalypse and zombies, never gets old

Scouting parties for post apocalyptic government army help find survivors and clear the area of zombies and hostile forces for reclamation. Safety in the zone exists. I really enjoyed this book. I enjoyed the freestyle and the sarcasm and the fun team rivalry.

I like that this was a different kind of zombie slaying book. It was more about the characters instead of running from zombies. It was not a gruesome or over thought zombie story like a lot of zombie books are.

another great sequel

I love the fact that the characters seem pretty believable. This is one of the better zombie books that I had the pleasure reading. can't wait for the next sequel.

My only reservation again is the narrator. But it is a personal thing. The book is great.

Great Concept for Space Travel

What made the experience of listening to Free Fall the most enjoyable?

The idea of a trucker turned cheap astronaut is a great concept. The main character is not your typical tough-talkin', space gunslinger out saving the universe. This guy is real with all the foibles of your "every day Joe". I really look forward to where the story goes next. The narrator is excellent. He does a wide range of voices and totally makes the story come alive.

What other book might you compare Free Fall to and why?

I would compare it in some ways to The Martian due to the extreme sense of alienation in space with difficult communication and the use of intelligence to solve problems.

Lindsey will be missed.

As much as Lindsey added to the story in book two, I was quite disappointed to see her go. She will be missed. Well have to see if Laszlo can make up for her loss in book three. Charles is incensed with the loss of Lindsey. He didnt love her, but she was his partner and travel mate. Her death will not go unpunished. Charles vows to make the zealots pay for their crime. His main mission is still Florida and his daughters, but first things first. Will Charles see his daughters again? Stay tuned zombie lovers!

Heartbreaking Apoca-Fic

This is a solid and dark post-apocalyptic tale.

The author never gives us too much detail about precisely what happened - there are hints of some sort of horrible occurrence, but it seems to be localized to one part of the world. The military simply knocks on the door and carts people away to a ship. They are being transported to a camp in America.

Luke is separated from his wife and child and is determined to find them - no matter what he has to do.

Now, I'll warn you that this isn't one of those fun post-apoc tales full of marauders and packs of cannibals. Nor, honestly, is there much adventure. This is a far more introspective tale, full of personal horrors and despair. For such a small book, it's surprisingly heavy with emotion and impossible situations.

What kept it from being five stars for me was the ending. I thought it was too pat and too perfect. For a while, I thought the author would take the hard road and give us an ending that, while perhaps unpopular, would be braver and more unsettling. While I understood why he chose not to go in that direction, I think that, given the realism of the rest of the book, the ending was unrealistic.

A solid, and sad, read.

For two brothers, life just got complicated.

While attending the funeral of his brother David's wife they are invaded by government soldiers are loading everyone on buses, forcefully evacuating everyone to the United States, during which many families were separated, lost, or left behind.

Definitely not the usual gorefest of a typical Matt Shaw book, yet with his usual flair and sense of style, you are treated to a softer (though not marshmallow soft) side. Reminiscent of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster where everyone was piled on buses, leaving all their belongings behind, Matt Shaw cranks it up to the complete evacuation of England.

His characters are well developed, the storyline well thought out, no typos nor errors with sentence structure, the events move along at a pace which keeps the reader interested in what occurs next.

Definitely an enjoyable read, would recommend to a select few of my friends and family.

Amazing writing

This was my first time reading anything by Shaw and I was genuinely blown away by how good it is. With the proliferation of zombie fiction in our culture, it's kind of refreshing to see an apocalyptic story like this one, not containing any kind of particularly paranormal angle to it.

What I especially like about this is how focused the narrative is. Could Shaw have taken another fifty pages to set up the story, offering an explanation for what has caused the catastrophic event upon which this book is built? I suppose.
