Splendid Sci-fi gore

Future Winds is a well-written, gore filled adventure. The narrative examines humanities innate lead and follow architecture. Characters were easy to relate to, even as the collapsing infrastructure forced brutal choices. I was however, left with many questions and hoping for a sequel.

Disappointing/Rushed

I normally don't give bad reviews. However, all the reviews I read on this book were stellar and I found this book no where close.

The Good: I really liked the character development, would love to get to know some of the characters more - both the native planet characters and the human colonists. The overall story had a lot of potential.

The Bad: it felt rushed and should have been a trilogy or more. Ever watch a movie or have someone tell you a book summary from a high level and you can tell it should be great, but all the beauty was left in the mind of the director or story teller? That is this book. I can tell the author had an amazing world and story in his mind, it just fell flat. The story builds up lots of interesting plot lines that just go away. I understand the overall messages, key points, an impact to the message, etc I just felt there was too many pieces built up that have little reason to be there other than filler.

This really could have been edited down. It seemed to go on and on and on. It almost feels like the characters themselves that the author got pulled into the circular story and couldn't get out of it. The book had the feel of the movie 1408 but less interesting. Lots and lots of self reflection to the point of boredom.

Awesome post apocalyptic book!

This is a series so it does end on a cliffhanger unfortunately. Great book though! The story was very well written but I was a bit confused about certain people having special abilities. I'm hoping that will be explained further into the series!

Entertaining read.

Flesh eating Greyskins walk the earth and all Waverly and Remi want is safety. But before they get there, they have to not only deal with Greyskins, but also humans, which is worse though??

At first, I struggled to get into this, because the story felt disjointed. It wasn't till I was a ways in that I realised it was being told from 2 different peoples POV! Then it fell into place. The audio never specified who was talking and both characters were similar which is why I had a hard time realising who was talking! That's why it's a 4 star instead of a 5 star review, because other than this, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

The plot was relatively fast paced and entertaining. It held my attention throughout and I loved that the author added in an extra something to the Zombie apocalypse. I loved the powers the people had!!

In all, this was a great read that could have been brilliant if the characters were expanded more. Despite that niggle, this is a unique and captivating read and I'm really looking forward to the next one.

Sophie Amoss did a good job with this, though the main problem I had with her was that she didn't give Waverly and Remi distinct enough voices to not be confused. If they were more distinct, then I think I would of enjoyed it more.

This was not a bad book. In fact, I enjoyed it far more than I was expecting given the genre. My Kindle clocked it at about 454 pages, but the story moved quickly and didnt dawdle about much. Even the back stories that were given for context are presented during points where the story is moving rather than giving readers a wall of exposition. Its concise, to the point, and moves on with the story. The plot is familiar. Zombie stories often explore things such as morality because people and their machinations are scarier than mindless zombies. Its typically bleak with the constant threat of raiders and starvation. There are some amenities still around such as fuel used for vehicles, electricity, and weapons, but everything is measured and used with care as youd expect in the situation. Theres a little bit of romantic fluff in the book, but nothing thats overwhelming.

Mad max with amnesia

Neal Arango's performance was quite lively and engaging. He voiced the characters very well, and made them all distinct so I knew who was speaking at all times.

The story was intriguing and filled with just enough mystery that I kept wanting to continue on to the next chapter.

What did you love best about 15 Years Later: Wasteland?

I loved the part of the book where Zed escaped from the prison. The book was well-written and different enough to be interesting. Zed's escape was an example of being exciting and original.

What does Neal Arango bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?

Neal did a very good job of reading the book. The voices were good, but not too far over the top. His voice really became a non-issue which is really what you want from an audiobook. It was like I was reading it. Very well done!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

One of the main things I take into consideration when picking out an audio book is the narrator. What is his/her voice like? How does it make me feel? Do they read a script or do they actually breathe life into the written word? It has no bearing if this book is outstanding if the person reading it sounds like one of my high school English teachers. In this case, I liked out. I got a fabulous storyline AND narrative.

What did you like best about this story?

There are so many things that I liked that make it impossible to single out any one thing. Each chapter had a "best" moment. But I'm glad that there are sequels, that the story lives on, that the fantasy doesn't have to end when the narrator utters that last word.

Which scene was your favorite?

A bit easier to answer, my favorite scene is actually TWO scenes. Jacob's harrowing exodus from Blackout and the decimation of the Regime's Hope factory.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

YES, DEFINITELY! But unfortunately I had to settle with stolen moments. I started my day with coffee & HOPEBREAKER, snatched a spare moment or two throughout the day, and ended my day with a cup of herbal tea & HOPEBREAKER.

Any additional comments?

I had the privilege of reading HOPEBREAKER prior to listening to the audio version, so I already knew the storyline, had preconceived ideas about the characters - what they might look like, their character, etc. But actually having someone read the book to me added an almost magical element to it. The story came alive in my mind. I was able to relive every moment in more detail. And rather than two dimensional physical descriptions of the characters, my mind's eye gave them real faces. The faces of people I'd seen in film or in real life. I always saw Jacob resembling a shaggy haired Chris Pratt. Taberah looked amazingly similar to a fiery Jennifer Lawrence. And suddenly, as the narrator detailed the appearance & mannerisms of Teller, my mind envisioned my pizza delivery guy. Sometimes, everything in the world seems to come between me and my favorite books, but there's little that can keep me from listening. And that's the big bonus with narration.

There is a lot of action

Hopebreaker by Dean F. Wilson is the first in a series called The Great Iron Wars. It is a steampunk dystopian novel with a bit of science fiction mixed in. On the world of Altadas, a demon invasion led to a takeover of the human race. Instead of birthing normal human children now humans only have demon children.

Really Enjoyed!

After reading some pretty bad reviews regarding this book, I went into it with no expectations, and you know what, I really enjoyed it!! Shocker ;) Don't let the bad reviews sway you, this was an enjoyable listen!

When a flight has to land with no communication between the plane and LAX, the passengers don't know what to expect. They don't expect a place shrouded in fog and seemingly empty though. They can barely see a few feet in front of themselves, but some of the passengers break off, while some head to the airport to see what's happening. While on their way there, they hear moans and screams, just what is going on?? As they arrive at the place, a person seems to jump from the tower, screaming. Their initial thoughts are terrorists in he building, but what they get is something worse.

Who would have thought that a book based in an airport a lot, would grab my attention so much, yet this one did! The plot was relatively fast paced and quite eerie! Anything taking place in a fog is eerie, but add in an abandoned airport, Zombies and an awful camp, and you have a decent read!

All the characters are well written and developed. I liked Halverson a lot. He is capable, smart and a take no prisoner kind of guy. He does his best for his fellow passengers and tries to keep them all alive! There isn't many books out there that make me despise a character as much as this one did, but despise Leamans I did! The man tried his best to become leader and was so arrogant and a down right despicable man! He seemed to do his best to get on the wrong side of every character!

Anyway, this was a really quick read for me, and I look forward to checking out the rest soon. Give these books a go, you won't regret it!

I really enjoyed the narration done by D.G. Chichester. With the amount of characters in this, he did a great job distinguishing each. I hope he is narrating the rest of the series!

Incomplete story

I was sold on this book by a friend who hadn't listened to it yet. We both liked the premise: "Time traveller goes back into the old west"

The first 1-2 hours... seemed to deliver on that... then....

Everything unravels. The writer introduces multiple story threads, and barely relates them to each other. He has characters spend time togehter, remarks that one is brimming with questions... and asks NONE of them. Zero exposition to explain what the hell the author is trying to say.

I also blame GoodReads as apparently this "first" book, was a collection of 5, previously smaller stories, now put together. I thought this would mean it was a complete story, But no, it's barely an introduction, and despite being published 4 years ago, the sequel is only now being released in July (no word on audio adaptaion).

Stick a pin in this, come back in a decade to see if it's done, then waste a credit or 3.

A good time travel premise, with lots of ideas, but not in any sense "a book". A waste of money and should not be on Audibles list.

This is by far the strangest story

This is by far the strangest story I have finished in a long time.

Jack is the main character. He is in an old western town setting. Trouble is riding toward the town. Trouble is also behind him, in the saloon. There is a fight and as he looks into the double barrel of the shotgun he swallows a black liquid, and vanishes. He pops up in a ocean, swims to shore and finds a cave to hide in. Oh, his clothes did not make the journey with him.

Future time, back on the space station, two men are getting ready to make the trip back in time. They use transparent capsule dropped from the station. Their mission is to find Jack and stop him or kill him. One is a Native American, the other is a huge man nicknamed Ox. There is deceit and the mission does not go as planned. There to watch the launch are President Freeman and the General. The General's background is a little more detailed then that of President Freeman.

There is also a cop, Rogers, who gets pulled into the action. He has the Black Book in his possession. Not sure how he got it. During the night his house is broken into by unknown men. He fights back and there is an explosion. When he investigates he finds himself transported to an unknown land taking the Black Book with him.

The story line jumps back and forth and sometimes it is confusing. The writer goes form one character's story to another's and it does not always seem consistent. There are several different story lines going on at the same time and in different times.

BIRTHRIGHT: TECHNOMAGE

The story was well written, easy to follow and was well developed. How t was formatted was like I was changing the CDs myself, pregnant pauses and elevator music included. Not impressed with three second pauses between every chapter.

Good narration /awkward story

The narration was great, but the writing was off in a couple ways.

First, the dialogs were forced and kept going on about "don't you get it?" many times the author felt the need to tell readers the same thing over and over.

Secondly, the sudden flip [spoilers] of gramps' character was strange, and off putting. The needless killing was very over the top, especially when killed in such needlessly gruesome ways.

As a note, not everyone vomits when faced with death.

The narration was enjoyable. I had no issues following which character was which and found the voice very soothing.

Great Story

Yes, a good story and plot line. Easy to get hooked into the telling.

What about CB Droeges performance did you like?

The narrators performance was good, but the choreography leaves something to be desired, to many long pauses and pointless music interludes between chapters.

What made the experience of listening to Aegis Incursion the most enjoyable?

I enjoyed the way the author created dimension in the story by creating multiple plots that converge at certain points and also past experiences that influence the current story. I did not realize this book was a sequel until after I read it!

What other book might you compare Aegis Incursion to and why?

Aegis Incursion is a classic Sci fi type book, it is in its own vain, I can't draw a parallel to another book similar.

Have you listened to any of Tristan Wrights other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have not but the narrator did a great job at keeping consistent voices throughout the book, which made it enjoyable and easy to follow!

Yes, I listened to this book consistently throughout work.

I was given this book for free in exchange for an honest review. I also believe although this book is exciting, it is quite easy to follow and I think it would be best for young adults. Still a good read for any age!

An adrenaline fuelled action, sci-fi extravaganza

Where does Aegis Incursion rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?

I'd say in my top 10! I've not read the first book. It states that you don't need to and you don't. Great characters and a great story made it impossible for me to stop listening.

What did you like best about this story?

I liked the mix of action and sci-fi around the good versus evil theme. The characters are also brilliantly written. They develop brilliantly as the book progresses and they are all really good.

Which character as performed by Tristan Wright was your favorite?

We have five young adults who are all effectively the main character of the book. They are all so well written that I wouldn't change anything about any of them and I wouldn't pick one over another.

Great Series!!!

This guy has me hanging on every volume he puts out. The characters are very well developed and the bad guy just makes me want to shoot him myself. You have to start from the beginning, you will miss some of the best writing in this genre I have seen if you don't. Cant wait for the next one!

Quick read

This is a rather short and fast read. I liked how the authors expanded the story to include what was happening in Israel. This was a more enjoyable story than "Evolution" because it held more closely to the "spirit" of the 1st two books in Zombie Crusade. Please keep on writing....
