Nasally narration

The narrator has such a nasally voice it sounds like he's speaking through a head cold. I found it hard to enjoy Dead Apocalypse due to the narration. In addition, the story line is not very imaginative. It's a pass for me.

Great start for the series.

An excellent start for the series, I can't wait for the rest. Love the characters and story. I don't want to spoil things, but this zombie thriller will keep you wanting more. Great pacing and excellent narration, you'll want to finish it in one sitting

Review Dead Apoclypse

This zombie presentation is verbally graphic, not for the squeamish. The narration by Maxwell Zener brings it to life. Each of his characters has a distinct voice avoiding any confusion on who is speaking and his performance makes it an enjoyable listen.

Zombies!!!

Not a "Mandie" (contemporary is my jam) book but definitely worth a read. If you like zombies and gore you'll enjoy this one. Beautiful scenery flooded with gruesome images, Tim does a great job of mixing fear with humor and a sprinkle of background information.

Not bad, not super action packed, but always compelling watching the initial outbreak. Well worth the credit ovwrall.

This continues where the last one left off almost...Rachel is infected by the New People..aka Zapheads...she is barely clinging to her humanity and finally makes her to her grandfathers house...and eventually the rest of the crew does too! There is more than meets the eye going on here and the Zaps are organizing, learning and they want Rachel...I dont know whats up...but I cant wait till the next one!!!

GOOD NARRATION AND STORY, I RECOMMEND!!!

Love this series!

After is an excellent series! I'm loving it so far. Scott Nicholson is a great author and Kevin Clay does a great narration. In this book, the zapheads are becoming more intelligent. They are learning to talk and becoming communal.

Another exciting sequel

This is the fourth highly entertaining book in the "After" series. What makes this book great is that you finally find out the end goal of the Zapheads. Are they even capable of having goals? Yes! They are and they do. We also learn more about what is happening to Rachel and why. I am addicting to this series, and I never thought I would be. Nicholson makes me care about the characters and I keep reading to find out what happens next. I listened to the Audible audio version narrated by Kevin Clay, and he does a great job with the narration. Great character differentiation, pacing, and ability to connect with the characters. Overall, a fun and exciting book, and I can't wait for the next one.

Worth The Credit!

A very entertaining, interesting and engaging story. Full of action, suspense, romance, mystery, betrayal, secrets, emotions, revenge and so much more. There is enough going on that there is never a dull moment. The story is fast paced and constantly moving forward. Definitely worth your time and credit.

I would not consider this a standalone book. I did not listen to the first book in the series and I think I would have enjoyed this story even more if I had. Many times you can read the second book in a series and completely understand what's going on with no problem. For me that was not the case with this book. Even thought the book drew me in immediately, It took me a bit to get the characters straight and get caught up in the story.

As well as a large cast of great characters the story is told through several POV's. Which just adds to the overall enjoyment of the story.

I need to go back and listen to the first book in the series to get the complete backstory and just for the pure enjoyment of it.

Keith Michaelson did a fantastic job with the narration. Nice voice. Very deep. Fits the main character perfectly. Clearly spoken. Nice even pace. Fantastic character voices. Different dialects and accents. Even his female character voices are great. Which is not something all male narrators can pull off. He made the characters and the story come to life through the narration. Very enjoyable

A Heroic Hybrid Cyborg..

Ten months after the port was destroyed the Nomads and Hunters are trying to live in

peace.

Terra is still grieving over the events in the first book, Ares.

A shuttle lands on Ultar carrying someone unexpected and Terra doesn't know how to

process the new information.

The storyline covers relationships, personal struggles, and rebuilding.

This book had a good flow and was an overall good read.

I look forward to the next book in the series.

Keith Michaelson did well with the narration once again.

A chip off the "awesome block"

As a guy, I was worried about too much focus of romance. I had the same fear of the first book, but it turned out fine in both installments. The good news is that there's lots of action and plotting and brooding and revenge and self-hate. That's the good news? Yeah, actually.

Great Conceptual Sci-Fi

Would you listen to Edge of Dark again? Why?

I don't usually re-listen to books - so this is an odd question to answer. There are a number of characters you are introduced to here and this is essentially their origin story, so if the next books take them far from their starting points I could see coming back to listen again. This was a great book to listen to.

Who was your favorite character and why?

This book is about the concept of transferring a human consciousness into machine bodies. The book looks at this from many angles, many of them concerned and frightened with the thought of losing a part of our humanity or our souls. Yi is transferred and is an analytical scientist - and seems to have a much different opinion that resonated with my own initial thought. He was enthusiastic and examined the positives - the knowledge, new capabilities, reduction of limitations, etc.

What does Soneela Nankani bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?

Soneela fit the main character, Nona exceptionally well. There was a youth and innocence in how she narrated the story. At times it might have leaned too far into whining for my taste, but it was appropriate in how Nona was experiencing the world.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Humanity must face the evolution of their own experimentation.

I really enjoy conceptual scifi - stories that take a singular question or idea and build a story around it to examine it from a variety of angles. This is a great example of a solid concept turned into a fascinating story. Much of sci-fi stories may lean towards military and war stories, or be cold and analytical, or go the more thrilling and horror route.

This story stands out as much more about the human experience when faced with a plausible yet fantastic situation of machines coming back from banishment seeking to unbanish themselves. Would you fear them, would you join them, help them, sympathize with them, refuse them? There is a lot of exploration of a variety of feelings around the concept, but not too much that the story loses momentum.

Looking forward to listening to the next book.

Excellent time travel story!

This is a great story of two older teens who ended up over 1000 years in the future and over 900 years after a great cataclysm. Some humans survived while other humans and all of the animals have mutated. I absolutely loved this story but I wasn't too crazy about the narration.

Surprise!

This is one of the most different books I have listened to in quite a while. I honestly had no idea where the story was going, but it turned out really good - well worth a listen. The title does actually sum up the fact that this was a journey and that it had all kinds of twists and turns that I don't think the characters wanted to make.

The narrator did an outstanding job of reading and the writer led me on a fun adventure that was very interesting yet thoughtful.

WOW!!

What a fun story! I loved the premise and felt that Foley did a great job executing it. I laughed out loud at the " petroleum jelly" part, and loved that Don was more embarrassed than Janet.

The narration took a bit to get used to. I think the feeling I had was that it was kind of robotic. There was a change in tone for each character, which was really good. It was the in between narration that felt a little stiff.

I was lost in the story by the second chapter and have to say that I would definately recommend this to my other reader friends!

Its the end of the world as we know it - Story

This is a very good older YA story with lots of action and fighting. The sex is a little graphic, which is why I say Older YA. The story appeals to Adults too. It depends on your genre preference.

Don and Janet are sleeping in their car that is engulfed in a time portal. They wake up in their car and are now in the apocalyptic future. Luckily, Don and Janet come across a tribe that helps them. The superstitious tribe thinks technology is magic and that Don is the savior from a tribal prophecy. Don and Janet help them by using their common knowledge from the past. Janet is a strong female lead. I like that. It is not all about Don. There is a great balance between both of these characters.

There are crazy rituals and laws. Don and Janet are going to help change things. Mutants are running around. I just want to say..Those are some VERY fast lizards. I think the fact that the car made it into the future with them inside was a nice idea to include. In stories of this genre, the biological bodies are the only ones that make it through portals.

Big improvement over the first!

I was a little on the fence with the first book in this series, which I felt started off somewhat weak and contrived. This book dispelled those doubts completely, and the stride Mr. Underwood hit midway through the first book has carried through this one in a big way.

I like Mary Robinette's voice work on this one much better too. Particularly

the scene with the alien courtesans, which had me busting out laughing. Something about her "seductive dancing boy" voice was just hilarious!

My only complaint is that the author violates a rule of writing: if a character has a more interesting backstory than this one, you should be writing that story instead. Michael should have made Roman the viewpoint character of this series from the start, as he's easily the most interesting member of the cast. This book does shift to Roman more; I hope that's a trend that continues.

I did not enjoy the narrator but to not even end? where is the next book? There's no wrap up of anything, not even a bad ending, more like the author just stopped writing.

Needs work

I liked the story but the reading was not good and o think it needs more work

Intriguing YA science fiction

Owen's vision of the future in The Boy Who Fell From the Sky is dominated by global warming, cool tech, and all the fascist fun that cool tech can yield (the government is tracking your bio-ID now, y'all). Some sections are not too subtle with the exposition, but the world is still remarkably detailed and complex.

Matthew Erlang takes us through this new world with a flair for engineering, a dash of social awkwardness, and a growing crush on a classical pianist. Every so often I feel the urge to yell at him like I would at an actor in a horror movie, but I can't help but enjoy Owen's characterization.

The audiobook transported me into this strange new world as completely as any good holo-film. I have a special soft spot for the glorious voices of the Russian characters and of course for O'Malley the cat.

I'm highly anticipating diving in to the sequels next!

Classic in the making

I very much enjoyed listening to the audio version of the story, and I think the performer is well suited to the audience.

What did you like best about this story?

This is a wonderfully imagined and believable dystopian future. The author is clearly an expert futurologist and, whilst the environmental and political elements of the story are alarming, she provides a wonderful counterpoint through a virtual world created by her characters.

Ive read the trilogy. The first was extremely good, the second was outstanding and this one, the third, knocked it out of the ball park.

I consider the first and second books of this trilogy to be as inventive, entertaining, and solidly believable as science fiction can be, however, all of this, plus the storytelling in the final book put it into the realm of pure amazement! A great work!
