In this third of four episodes on changing our relationship with change, you have recognized that you’re ready for change. You know what you want. You’ve taken some steps to make it happen, and then… FEAR SETS IN. This is completely normal. It is also the point when you’re most likely to:
Avoid
Go numb
Procrastinate
Fear can shape shift and allow doubt to take hold. This is a critical time in the management of change. Oftentimes, we are tempted to abandon the process altogether.
The trick to moving past the fear and doubt is acknowledging the discomfort and identifying where you are in the process. By way of example, I share how I have dealt with this stage of change and what I tell my clients when they feel stuck.
If you need help moving beyond the fear and doubt, journaling can be a useful tool. A plain pad of paper and pen will do, or you can use the Treasured Journal, which includes questions, prompts, and sentence stems to help you open up and express your thoughts.
