    Quotes:

“When we're little all of us have two basic needs and one need is attachment. And so we need to attach to our caregivers, we need to have that sense of safety. The other need is authenticity. Right. But attachment will always trump authenticity.” [00:32]
  • “And being our most authentic self, the person that we are meant to be in this lifetime, is what we are really passionate about doing now” [12:23]
  • “Coming into our body was our gateway to our own healing, and really a doorway into kind of deeper exploration of self” [13:05]
  • “There’s so much about the way that we as a society are programmed to function that is extremely codependent, and really teaches us very young to abandon our authentic self.” [17:34]
  • “So much of the way I grew up was sort of like morphing into who I thought people needed me to be in order to be accepted in order to be loved.” [18:35]
  • “When I am not showing up authentically, when I am filling up your cup, but I'm feeling a deep sense of resentment about the fact that I'm filling it up, that's actually not me loving you, out of a place of authentic love. That is me loving you out of a place of fear.” [22:14]
  • A lot of codependency is kind of steeped in this very, like murdery victim type mentality. And so I do think in the beginning, especially, it's hard to actually separate.” [23:36]
  • All of us have the ability to self soothe. And relationships are a tool in our toolkit, just like you know; your therapist is a tool in your toolkit, just like going on a long walk is a tool in your toolkit, just like yoga is a tool in your toolkit. [36:48]
  • If I'm looking for another person to be my parent, there's not a lot of attraction there over time. So that's my job to do for me. And that doesn't mean you know, I'm not leaning on my partner for support and connection, it just means I'm not looking for them to parent me..” [40:41]
  • “for me, it's all of the things that we've talked about that I believe we're living through a moment in history, where paradigms and structures are falling to the ground that have been long overdue to fall, we're sort of you know, entering the Aquarian Age, for those of you who are aware of astrology and know what that means.” [57:00]
  • “For the first time of my life, I feel like I'm in a place with, like in relationship to myself, where I can more easily titrate between being connected and be autonomous, and not feel engulfed and not feel disconnected, like either or, I think for so much of my life.” [58:54]

  • Breaking Why: When Your Rock Bottom Becomes Your Purpose

Frankie Russo, through his Russo Capital firm, has developed a portfolio of companies across multiple industries, including technology, advertising, marketing, automotive, music, agriculture, publishing, and finance. The beneficiaries of his investments have offices in the United States and India and serve 128 US markets. Russo and his team have led two of his companies to become some of America’s fastest-growing, privately-owned organizations (Inc. 500) for eight years in a row. The Art of WHY (2016), Russo’s first book, was on Amazon’s bestseller list in the self-help category, and has been readapted and expanded into the rules-defying Breaking WHY. Quotes:

    • “We need to work doubly hard to be courageous in our own lives. Otherwise, we're going to go and retreat into our own shells.” [00:24]
  • “Many of us don't step into that space because of fear because of our own comfort zone because of our past patterns, our past regrets, whatever it is not realizing that that's actually where the living happens.” [01:42]
  • “This kind of trend in bookstores and in podcasts about crushing fear, killing, fear conquering fear, this kind of militaristic view about fear, I think is incorrect. At its best, and misleading at its worst, because fear will always be part of our lives” [10:25]
  • “And so, my perspective on courage comes from a place of feeling like I was the least courageous person.” [12:53]
  • “Be careful what you wish for or dream for because it will happen.” [14:05]
  • “You're on a roller coaster, not a train. It's the dips, oftentimes, that create that impetus for major change.” [20:30]
  • “And I would tell you that in almost every situation, where you're doing something courageous, from the tiniest little action to the largest, somebody is benefiting from it,” [26:03].
  • “At its worst, the worst thing that could happen would be you come home at the end of the day, and you get into a bed that's already made when it's bedtime. [27:50]
  • “Stepping out of our comfort zone, especially in kindness can create so much positivity in this world.” [32:13]
  • “The gratitude visit is maybe one of the most defining things in a relationship.” [49:23]
  • “Susan Jeffers wrote so beautifully, so many years ago, feel that fear and do it anyway. That's when the best things in life happen.” [58:05]

  • We don't need to get rid of shame. Shame is required. Perfect, awesome, delicious, beautiful, highly uncomfortable, but awesome as the springboard to the other side of that continuum, which is our glory [45:07].
  • Intimacy, it's almost like connect, like you never get there. [51:54]
  • Don't be afraid to let go of the people that are not in your best interest. And when you're letting go of those people that are not in your best interest, it doesn't mean that you can't keep a window open to invite them back in when it's time. [56:16].
  • I believe dating apps are designed to keep us single, they make money when we fail at love, not when we succeed [1:02:00]
