We all have the power to shape our realities through our perspectives. This was the profound message from a recent conversation between life coach Joel Elston and podcaster Walt Thiessen. Their discussion highlighted how we can overcome trauma and create positive change in our lives.
Joel knew this truth firsthand. Growing up in an abusive home, he initially felt stuck in the negative reality around him. But over time, he realized why he must have chosen that path – to become the empathetic helper he is today. “I now see the path that was necessary,” Joel reflected. “I wouldn’t have gotten there traditionally.” Walt related to this journey, having reluctantly accepted his role in creating his own reality despite severe hardships.
It is at the core of the dispute between “conscious creators” like ourselves who believe we all live in a realm of Source Energy where we all create our own realities vs. people who believe in more scientific or more religious ideas about how our reality is created for us by God or by the nature of universal laws or whatever.
We do a deep dive into the “reality creation” topic, and we freely admit up front (and throughout the discussion) that a lot of listeners are going to be offended by some of the things we say here today.
And while we make jokes about that, it’s also true that we seriously don’t mean to offend anyone else’s beliefs.
We are expressing our own beliefs, and we hope our ideas can be received in the spirit of that intention to simply share our beliefs.
This realization of personal power can be life-changing. Yet many resist it due to past trauma. As Joel said, “I get that perspective at that point.” Walt agreed trauma makes the idea of choice difficult. However, they showed through contrasting experiences that debilitation and aging aren’t inevitable. With the right mindset, we can thrive regardless of circumstances.
Joel’s clients prove this daily. One man turned his sexual abuse into helping similarly suffering children. Their stories of triumph over immense suffering demonstrate the transformative power of reframing one’s reality. But allowing change requires acknowledging our role in creation. As Walt noted, many blame external factors instead.
How can we break free from limiting patterns? Joel advised “allowing” manifestation rather than “hammering” it into place through lack-based focus. Walt knew this truth from personal experience. By letting go and trusting in his higher vibration, the good flowed naturally. We must accept accountability for our realities instead of blaming others to perpetuate victimhood. With awareness and practice, we gain autonomy over our realities and lives.
The bottom line? As Sam succinctly stated, “We create our realities whether we like it or not.” But with understanding and effort, we can reshape them into whatever we desire. Our perspectives ultimately determine the quality of our experiences. The power to transform has always been within us.
