Locked On Angels - Daily Podcast On The Los Angeles Angels

As the Los Angeles Angels begin to gear up for the offseason and turn on the Hot Stove, we're taking a moment to look back at the free agents that we wanted to sign in the offseason before the 2023 season. So, how did we do? Today, the Super Halo Bros. review their "signings" and take a look at how they each performed in 2023. There were some winning signings, like Brandon Drury and Michael Lorenzen, and some misses, like Edwin Diaz and Rafael Montero. We'll dive into the stats and the results of their seasons, and discuss who we hit and miss on!

The Los Angeles Angels recently let pitching prospect Chris Rodriguez be claimed off waivers by the Arizona Diamondbacks, ending what was a promising start to a young Angels career held back by injury. The Super Halo Bros. discuss the departure and how it opens up into a greater conversation; when it comes to draft picks, was Billy Eppler more successful, or has Perry Minasian taken over as the better GM in terms of drafting? Mike has a theory as to why C-Rod was so easily let go, and it has everything to do with the amount of time it's taken for some of the Eppler picks to develop into viable Major Leaguers. On today's show, we'll discuss C-Rod being waived, if Minasian has plans for any of Eppler's leftover prospects, and, are any of those picks, like Jo Adell, on the trading block? It's all happening on today's Locked On Angels!

The Los Angeles Angels have been lacking an identity when it comes to their on-the-field play, and they could certainly take a page from this year's Arizona Diamondbacks team on finding one. Today on Locked On Angels, the Super Halo Bros. are breaking down how Arizona went from a losing team 2 years ago to one of the two teams in this year's World Series! Thanks to an in-depth article from ESPN's Jeff Passan, we're discussing how the Diamondbacks got here and if the Angels can follow a similar path in 2024. And, just how alike are the D-Backs and a familiar Halos team from the past? We'll tell you all about on today's show!

The Los Angeles Angels are seeking a new manager for the 2024 season, and the candidates reported over the weekend added to an already list of intriguing names include Torii Hunter, Tim Salmon, and Ron Roenicke. While other candidates like Buck Showalter have an edge in terms of experience, would someone who hasn't managed before like Salmon or Hunter do well with the Halos? Mike and Jon share the names that intrigue them the most and explain how it might work in Anaheim!

Then, the Angels are going to need a new pitching coach, as Matt Wise has moved on to the Chicago White Sox as reported last week. So, what names around the league might make sense? The Super Halo Bros. have a list of names that they'd want to see come to the Angels, but they would certainly be big gets if they were to do so. We'll discuss it all in segment 2!

Plus, what about a former Angel coming in and becoming the pitching coach? Would a name like Jered Weaver, Chuck Finley, or even Mark Gubicza make sense? While fans certainly love their favorites from years past, Jon explains what makes a strong pitching coach and why some of these could work, and some might not.

The Los Angeles Angels have allowed Matt Wise, the now former pitching coach, to take a bullpen coaching job with the Chicago White Sox, opening the pitching coach spot for 2024. This is a sigh of relief for most Angel fans, as much of the pitching staff's struggles have been attributed to Wise's lack of development and coaching over the last few years. On today's Fanmail Friday, we'll address Wise's departure, when Shohei Ohtani might sign with his next team, and discuss why Buck Showalter is interested in potentially managing the Angels in 2024. That's today, on Locked On Angels!

The Los Angeles Angels will have to sit and watch their AL West rivals take on the Arizona Diamondbacks in this year's World Series, as the Texas Rangers made quite the turnaround in two years, going from a 100-loss team to potential World Series champions. How did they do it? On today's Locked On Angels, the Super Halo Bros. break down how the Texas Rangers were able to translate their moves into success, and it has to do with deals, trades, and signings, their decision-making and standing by those decisions, and an intriguing use of experience and analytics. After we explain each element of the Rangers' turnaround, we'll discuss whether it's feasible for the Angels to do what Texas did and how they might accomplish it. It's all happening on today's Locked On Angels!

The Los Angeles Angels are rumored to be looking at someone who could be in a position to oversee Perry Minasian, perhaps as a President of Baseball Operations, and with Kim Ng and the Marlins parting ways, the Halos should be all in on hiring her for the front office! Mike and Jon explain why they'd like to see her be hired, go over her impressive resume and experience, and discuss how it could benefit the Angels for the foreseeable future in segment 1!

Then, since the end of 2022, there have several managerial openings in MLB, and Joe Maddon hasn't been linked or rumored for any of them. So, what gives? Why aren't teams interested in bringing in Maddon to take the reigns? Mike and Jon offer their explanations and thoughts on the matter in segment 2!

Plus, as the talk of the next Halos manager heats up, it seems that the field of candidates is becoming more clear. Buck Showalter, Darin Erstad, and even the likes of Ron Washington have all been suggested and/or rumored. If the candidate comes from that pool, which ones would the Super Halo Bros. like to see manage the Halos in 2024? We'll let you know in segment 3!
