Locked On Angels - Daily Podcast On The Los Angeles Angels

The Los Angeles Angels have certainly had bad luck with big free-agent signings, and the most recent case of Anthony Rendon has had Halos fans asking for him to be traded time and time again. But, can it be done? Today on Locked On Angels, the Super Halo Bros. take on the task! Before they share their proposals, Mike and Jon look back on some trades that might provide an idea of what a Rendon trade might look like in segment 1!

Then, Jon shares his trade proposals based on prior trade examples, as he gives three different trades that might be able to move Anthony Rendon. Which one of the three will he go with, and which players would be part of the deal? Check out Jon's proposals in segment 2!

Plus, Mike shares his proposals and how he believes the Angels could move on from Anthony Rendon! Once Mike shares his trades, the Bros. discuss this question: would moving Anthony Rendon even be worth it? We'll cover it all in segment 3!

The Los Angeles Angels hired Barry Enright as their pitching coach for 2024, and under manager Ron Washington, he appears to be another competent hire who can help take these Angels a step further in 2024. Enright recently had a Q&A with Sam Blum of The Athletic, where he spoke about young starters like Reid Detmers and Patrick Sandoval and how he plans on getting the most out of them next year. Barry offers some incredible insight into where he believes the organization went wrong and even admitted to doing so, and he offers what kind of philosophy he'll bring to the table. Today, the Super Halo Bros. dive into the interview and break down what Enright had to say and why it gets us excited to see how the pitching staff can become who they're meant to be in 2024!

This incredible article from Sam Blum can be found right here: https://theathletic.com/5097883/2023/11/29/qa-angels-pitching-coach-barry-enright/

The Los Angeles Angels added a couple of pieces in the last week, and fans uttered a collective "who?" So, the Super Halo Bros. are here to talk about the two signings they made in Adam Kolarek and Charles Leblanc, their stats, and why the Halos brought them in. And, before everyone freaks out and thinks this is all Perry Minasian plans to do, allow us to explain why these signings took place and why they happen all the time in segment 1!

Then, a Locked On Everydayer made an intriguing comparison; is Jo Adell the Angels' version of Adolis Garcia? Mike thinks so, and he's got the stats and the career path for each, and you'll be surprised at how similar they appear to be. We'll discuss it all in segment 2!

Plus, we give you a refresher on the Rule 5 Draft coming up, how it works, what it means, and who the Angels decided to protect from being drafted. We'll give you the details on Jack Kochanowicz, a minor-league pitcher, and how he figures into the Halos' plans for the future in segment 3!

Los Angeles Angels General Manager Perry Minasian has mentioned many times that he and the team plan to be "aggressive" in free agency, but so far, there haven't been many moves outside of a few small-time signings and additions. So, when Minasian says that the team will be aggressive, what does he mean when he says that, and what should it actually mean? The Super Halo Bros. share their thoughts on Perry's comments and what they'd like to see from the Halos in segment 1!

Then, what does it look like for the Angels to be aggressive for both hitting and pitching? Which areas of need have a more pressing need? In segments 2 and 3, Mike and Jon discuss what being aggressive looks like in those two areas and the names they should consider adding!

The Los Angeles Angels haven't made any big splashes so far, and as far as their Hot Stove goes, it's running cold at the moment. While they've been waiting to make a deal, three starting pitchers have come off the board in the form of Aaron Nola, Lance Lynn, and reliever Reynaldo Lopez. Lopez and Nola were two pitchers that the Super Halo Bros. were hoping the Angels would pursue, and we were surprised to learn that the Braves plan on converting Lopez to a starter. On today's show, we'll take a look at all three pitchers, decide if the Halos are truly missing out, and, is there a lesson in loyalty to be learned from the way Aaron Nola and the Phillies reunited? Let's talk about it on today's Locked On Angels!

Los Angeles Angels manager Ron Washington has come close to completing his coaching staff for 2024, and over the last few days, we've seen some additions to the staff that have received lots of nods of approval around MLB! In segment 1, we'll discuss the addition of Johnny Washington as the hitting coach and what players who've worked with him have to say about him, plus, the Angels have added Tim Laker as an "offensive coordinator"; yes, you read that right! While it's not the NFL the Halos are playing in, Mike and Jon have their thoughts as to what this position might be responsible for in 2024!

Plus, the Angels have selected a new catching coach in Jerry Narron, who brings a wealth of experience to the coaching staff as a former manager. The Angels also named Barry Enright to the position of pitching coach, and having worked under Brent Strom the last two years in Arizona, it seems like he's cut out for the role that could be the most difficult in baseball right now! We'll share the background and details with you in segments 2 and 3!

Los Angeles Angels pitcher Davis Daniel continues his conversation with us on today's show, covering topics like coming up through the Angels minor league system, the coaches who have made an impact on his career, and what it felt like to earn his first Major League win! Davis also shares his approach when it comes to having an efficient start, something that we've often wondered how pitchers accomplish on the mound. We also ask him what it's like to be around stars like Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani, and what he's working on in the offseason! Afterward, we'll share our thoughts on what Davis shared with us, including the coaches he mentioned that have helped him along the way, and why we're concerned about the names the Angels have recently let go.
