Locked On Angels - Daily Podcast On The Los Angeles Angels

The Los Angeles Angels were a big topic of conversation over on "Foul Territory," where former MLB Network analyst and play-by-play host Scott Braun and several former big leaguers, including veteran catcher Erik Kratz, talk baseball every weekday! When Cody Decker, a friend of Foul Territory, suggested the Angels ought to trade for Tim Anderson of the Chicago White Sox, Angel fans were quick to call out that we have a stud shortstop in Zach Neto! After a wild back-and-forth between Scott and Halos faithful, we've invited Erik and Scott on to Locked On Angels to hash things out and gain some clarity into the conversation! In Part 1 of a 2-part episode, we discuss why Angel fans were so defensive and ask Scott and Erik if they'd go "All In" on the Angels this season! Don't miss our informative, insightful, and positive conversation in this very special episode of Locked On Angels!

The Los Angeles Angels swept the Boston Red Sox on Wednesday, after Tyler Anderson turned in 6 great innings, and Shohei Ohtani, Mike Trout, and Zach Neto all homered in this one! The Halos had some strong defense at work in this one as well, keeping the lead throughout the game and adding enough run support to make it comfortable for the bullpen to finish out the game well. We'll break it all down for you in segment 1!

Then, with the win last night, the Angels would only need 2 more victories to get to 15 wins in May, which would keep them on pace to have at least 90 wins by the end of the season. With the remaining series against the Marlins and White Sox coming up, do the Angels have the opportunity to walk away with an even better record in May? We'll tell you all about it in segment 2!

Plus, Reid Detmers is an important part of this Angels rotation, and the young starting pitcher has had a bit of a rocky start this season. While he's shown flashes of what makes him great, the results have not been too kind so far. However, Mike and Jon will give you the underlying numbers that will demonstrate why Reid Detmers might be the victim of some bad circumstances and give you hope for why he will improve as the season progresses. Get all the details in segment 3!

The Los Angeles Angels take another series win against a plus .500 team in the form of the Boston Red Sox, as Griffin Canning pitches 7 scoreless innings of 2-hit baseball! Mickey Moniak leads off with yet another home run, and Matt Thaiss and Mike Trout get in on the home run parade as well! The big story here was Canning's start, getting through 7, and the bullpen keeping the Sox off the board thanks to Matt Moore and Jacob Webb. Mike and Jon recap the game and discuss what's been different with the Halos lately in segment 1!

Then, in segments 2 and 3, Jon and Mike share their Shohei Ohtani HOT TAKES! There's been a lot of talk about Shohei's next destination in 2024, but Mike and Jon share their thoughts about his future in Anaheim and why they believe he will stay. Jon has a take that you'll surely won't want to miss, and Mike shares his ideas on what a Shohei Ohtani contract might look like!

The Los Angeles Angels take game 1 of a 3-game set against the Boston Red Sox after a strong pitching performance from Jaime Barria and some heroics by Mickey Moniak! Barria got his 1st start since August of 2021, going 5 scoreless innings before Chris Devenski and Chase Silseth kept the Sox off the scoreboard. Mickey Moniak had a solo home run to give the Angels the lead, and that was all it took to get the big win! There's just one problem though; Aaron Loup returned, and he wasn't able to keep the Sox from scoring. We'll tell you what happened, why Loup's outing means you can expect more Aaron Loup, and much more.

Then, what's the solution to the Aaron Loup problem? Mike has a recommendation, and it's Angels prospect Kolton Ingram! We'll tell you why the lefty is a great choice to come up from the minors and take over Loup's bullpen spot in segment 2!

Plus, what's the best possible version of the Angels roster right now? We'll give you our picks for who should be on the team, how they'll figure in, and how this team shapes up with them on the roster! Spoiler alert: we're talking Ben Joyce in this one!

The Los Angeles Angels finally earned a series win over a plus .500 team in the Minnesota Twins, taking 2 out of 3 this past weekend at the Big A. On Friday night, the Halos were treated to a Reid Detmers no-hitter through 5 innings, and although he couldn't hang onto it, Mickey Moniak earned himself quite a night as well with a single, double, triple, and robbing a home run! The Angels take game 1, and we'll recap it in segment 1!

Then, Saturday's loss felt very deflating, as Patrick Sandoval struggled out of the gate and the offense, aside from Shohei Ohtani's home run, didn't make very much noise. The return of Jared Walsh was exciting for Halo fans, but it came at the expense of Brett Phillips, who was designated for assignment. We'll tell you all about it in segment 2!

Plus, Ohtani stood tall on the mound through 6 innings of 2-hit, 1-run pitching, totaling 9 strikeouts on the day! It went a long way in helping the Halos secure the win in addition to the offense of Mickey Moniak! Plus, we saw the additions of some new bullpen pieces prior to the game, and Reyes Moronta and Chris Devenski helped get the ball into the hands of Matt Moore and Carlos Estevez. We'll tell you how Sunday's win went in segment 3!

The Los Angeles Angels stayed in a very tough and drama-filled game on Thursday, keeping pace with the Baltimore Orioles and taking the win, 6-5! It allowed the Halos to split the series with O's, something that the Angels sorely needed after this tough road trip. Mike Trout, Shohei Ohtani, and Luis Rengifo all contributed in this one, and Matt Moore and Carlos Estevez made sure they locked it down in the late innings! We'll give you the recap in segment 1!

Then, it's Fanmail Friday, and we're answering YOUR questions! What would it take for David Fletcher to come back? Will Zach Neto's bat improve? What about Anthony Rendon and his lack of power from the cleanup spot? Who should the Angels trade for at the deadline? We'll get into all these and more in segments 2 and 3!

The Los Angeles Angels can't seem to get out of their own way once again, as they drop game 3 to the Orioles, 3-1. Griffin Canning had a decent start on the mound, although errors and issues behind him caused Canning to have to throw more pitches than necessary, leading to the O's taking a 3-1 lead. That was all it took with Baltimore's lockdown bullpen, and despite a Mike Trout home run, the Angels couldn't muster enough offense to climb back in it. Speaking of Trout's home run, it was good to see him make the adjustment as we spoke about yesterday. We'll give you all the details in segment 1.

Then, Phil Nevin and the Angels' front office are NOT happy about the new baseballs being used in the Southern League, particularly because that's where the Halos' AA affiliate, the Rocket City Trash Pandas, play baseball. The new ball that MLB is trying out is affecting players both on the mound and at the plate, and it makes it difficult for the Angels to get a good read on their best prospects in AA. Why is MLB doing this, and will it last? We'll talk about it in segment 2!

Plus, we owe Matt Thaiss an apology. The Angels' catcher has had quite a turnaround since the beginning of the season, hitting well and playing a much better catcher than the first few weeks. What changed? We'll dive into what has caused this turnaround for Thaiss in segment 3!

The Los Angeles Angels had some shaky pitching and a lack of hitting against the Orioles on Tuesday night, falling 7-3. Chase Silseth got the start on the mound and a decent albeit short start, only going 3-1/3 innings before being relieved by Tucker Davidson, who went on to have a CURSED inning when a line drive ricocheted off his foot and put runners in scoring position. Andrew Wantz surrendered the home run that would put this one out of reach, and heavy hitters like Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani weren't able to come through in this one, going a combined 0 for 8. We'll tell you all about this game in segment 1!

Then, are you concerned with Mike Trout swinging and missing on the fastball lately? It's been a topic of discussion around Halo fans, so we're diving and figuring out what's going on. Can Angel fans have hope that Mike Trout will turn it around? We'll tell you why you don't have to worry about Trout in segment 2!

Plus, we're talking more Trout in segment 3 and the playing schedule he's been on in order to keep him healthy and on the field. How are the Halos and manager Phil Nevin handling Mike Trout, and what goes into the decisions on when he plays? We'll break it down for you in segment 3!

The Los Angeles Angels earned a sorely-needed win on Monday night against the Baltimore Orioles, thanks to Shohei Ohtani's start on the mound and his night at the plate! The two-way superstar pitched 7 innings and provided some of his own run support for this one, nearly hitting for the cycle for the second time this season! The Angels earned 17 hits off the Orioles' pitching and put together a collective win to help them earn a victory. We'll recap the game in segment 1!

Then, Anthony Rendon is on the Injured List... again. The bad news came Monday as Livan Soto was called up in his place, and Rendon said he's been struggling since the Brewers series with a groin issue. Is this yet another disappointing stop on the story of Rendon in Anaheim, or will it get better? Many fans compare this to Albert Pujols' time here; is that a fair comparison? We'll discuss in segment 2!

Plus, Ryan Tepera has been DFA'd and will no longer be an Angel. What went into the decision, and how did it take this long for the Angels to come to this result? We'll talk about why they gave him his chance for as long as they did in segment 3.

The Los Angeles Angels dropped the weekend series to the Cleveland Guardians, winning on Friday and losing back-to-back games on Saturday and Sunday. Friday consisted of an epic comeback win in the 9th as we've seen with this Halo team a few times this season, and it's always nice to see the team play without any quit in them. The Super Halo Bros. we'll recap game 1 and give you all the details on how Mike Trout sparked a rally to give them the win in segment 1!

Then, in game 2 on Saturday, the Halos were cruising to a victory on Mickey Moniak's birthday. The former number-one overall draft pick led off, hit a home run in his first at-bat, stole 2 bases, and went 3-4 on his big day. In addition, Zach Neto made two incredible plays on defense and also added a 2-run home run to his stats. Unfortunately, the Angels had an all-too-familiar blowpen game, where Ryan Tepera gave up 2 home runs trying to relieve Andrew Wantz. He was DFAd on Sunday after this outing, but unfortunately, it cost the Angels a very winnable game and series on Saturday night. We'll break down the game in segment 2.

Plus, Sunday was an early one for us on the West Coast, as Patrick Sandoval and Tanner Bibee had themselves a pitchers' duel. The two former high school teammates went pitch for pitch into the 8th inning, but Josh Naylor, who'd had the Angels' number all weekend, put this one out of reach with a home run off Carlos Estevez. There was a lot of questioning Phil Nevin's decision-making here, as he walked Jose Ramirez to get to the hot bat of Naylor and pulled Patrick Sandoval, but it felt like a tip-your-cap kind of a game in this case. We'll explain what happened in segment 3!
