Locked On Angels - Daily Podcast On The Los Angeles Angels

It's a FANMAIL FRIDAY on Locked On Angels, and we're taking your questions about our favorite team, the Los Angeles Angels! You asked some great questions, including: how have previous Halo playoff teams started their season? Could Jo Adell be traded for a lockdown closer, or make a move to first base? What's up with Mike Trout missing the fastball right now, and how come Phil Nevin hasn't been playing small ball in the moments that matter? We've got these questions and much more on today's show, and the Super Halo Bros. will offer their insight into each question!

The Los Angeles Angels have won 3 of their first 4 series this year and now sit at 7-5 on the season after defeating the Washington Nationals on Wednesday, 3-2! Griffin Canning pitched in a Major League game for the first time since July of 2021 after struggling with a back injury that kept him out for all of 2022. He pitched well in his first start back, but it became the Brett Phillips show as the fan-favorite outfielder got his first start of the year in center field. He scored 2 of the Angels runs without swinging the bat, stealing two bags, and walking in a bases-loaded run. We'll recap the final game of the series and the W in segment 1!

Then, we'll take a deeper dive into Griffin Canning's performance on the mound, highlighting what went well for him in the start. He seems to be a more mature pitcher on the mound, and with some enhanced velocity and nasty breaking pitches, we'll tell you exactly how he was able to be effective in segment 2!

Plus, now that he has returned and will be getting another start against the New York Yankees next week, what does this mean for the starting rotation, and possibly Jose Suarez? After two disappointing starts and the return of the highly-touted Angels' prospect, could we see Jose Suarez be moved to the bullpen? What are some of the other options the Halos will need to consider? Mike and Jon will talk about it all in segment 3!

The Los Angeles Angels came away with the victory on Tuesday night, thanks to another impressive outing from Shohei Ohtani on the mound! The Halos walk away with a 2-0 win, and Shohei walks away with more history and records broken! He now has the most consecutive starts as an Angel with 2 runs or less with 10 straight starts, beating the previous holder, Nolan Ryan, and his 9 starts! We'll break down game 2 against the Washington Nationals in segment 1!

Then, it's our first-ever Minor League Report! Our new weekly segment will highlight what's going on down on the Angels' farm, and today, we're spotlighting AAA and the Salt Lake Bees! The Bees have been garnering a lot of "buzz", thanks in part to Jo Adell and Chase Silseth, and we'll tell you why and how they've done so, plus, we'll look at some of the other players on the team who could potentially help out our Halos in the pen.

Plus, is it hard to be a Halo, and, in particular, hard to be a Halo *not* named Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani? With the narrative of getting Mike and Shohei to the playoffs, what kind of pressure, if any, is placed on the players around them? We'll share the stories about two players who had nothing but great things to say about Trout and Ohtani and why they're not only the best on the field, but in the locker room as well!

The Los Angeles Angels suffered an embarrassing loss to the Washington Nationals on Monday after getting out to a 4-0 lead. Jose Suarez continued to struggle a 3rd time through the order, and costly fielding errors and decisions from Luis Rengifo and Brandon Drury did not help their cause. Jon's got a full recap of game 1 and will detail exactly what happened that caused the Halos to drop game 1 of the series against the Nats.

Then, with Tucker Davidson coming into relieve Suarez, it opened the door for the return of Griffin Canning on Wednesday! He'll start against the Nationals for his 1st big-league start since 2021, and Jon will get you up to speed on Canning's last year and a half, who he's been in the past, and what we can expect from him in his start on Wednesday!

Plus, we know that the bullpen has been an issue for the Angels so far in 2023. Perry Minasian recently spoke on this and had some very interesting comments regarding his hopes for the pitchers the Angels have in the pen. What did he say, does it make sense, and how can the Angels better manage the group of guys they have now? We'll discuss it in segment 3!

The Los Angeles Angels couldn't walk away with the series win against the tough Toronto Blue Jays this weekend, only winning 1 of 3 games due to some poor bullpen decisions while the offense did wake up and saw Hunter Renfroe, Luis Rengifo, and Brandon Drury hit their first home runs of the season.

While Mike Trout came up clutch this weekend and Shohei Ohtani hit unreal home runs, the pitching struggled to help the Halos keep a lead, a consistent theme throughout the weekend. In one sense, it was a blowpen game, and in another sense, it was terrible luck on hits that cost the Angels on Sunday.

Mike and Jon will take you through what you did see and what you didn't see and how that influenced the performance on the field this weekend. It's a full recap of the Blue Jays series today on Locked On Angels!

The Los Angeles Angels end their first road trip of 2023 with a tightrope victory over the Seattle Mariners! The Halos go 4-2 on the road trip, winning both series, and come home on Friday to the Big A for the home opener! Shohei Ohtani picked up his first win of the season, and though he struggled with his command, he still was able to get through 6 innings, allowing only 1 run, while Logan O'Hoppe continues to be a potential Rookie of the Year candidate, hitting a 2-run homer. Mike and Jon break down the game and give you all that you need to know in segment 1!

Then, with Taylor Ward taking huge strides last season and this season, could he end up being a Top 5 left fielder in baseball? Mike and Jon discuss the trade that almost sent him to the Dodgers in 2020 and why we're glad he's stuck around! We'll share our thoughts on if he can be top 5 in segment 2!

Plus, we answer a listener question regarding the Angels' lack of base stealing so far this season. Could they benefit from running more, and who could be the prototypical base-stealer for the team? We'll share our ideas in segment 3!

The Los Angeles Angels suffered a brutal loss to the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday, thanks to home runs from Teoscar Hernandez and AJ Pollock, some shoddy defense, and Jose Suarez losing the ability to locate pitches after starting out strong. It felt like a flashback to last season, with the Angels down double-digit runs and not able to climb back into the fight, and Mariners' ace Luis Castillo didn't make it easy on the Halos to get back into it either. The Super Halo Bros. will discuss game 2 of the series and give you a full recap in segment 1!

Then, last night's game has us consider the question: should the Angels make a change to their starting rotation? With options like Griffin Canning and Tucker Davidson, perhaps the argument is less about the 6th starter and more about who should be the 5th starter? Is it too soon to make this decision? Mike and Jon will discuss it all in segment 2!

Plus, at last year's trade deadline, the Angels traded fan-favorite and former number-one Angels prospect Brandon Marsh to the Philadelphia Phillies in exchange for catcher Logan O'Hoppe. Since O'Hoppe has impressed so far, was this trade worth it? Mike and Jon will share their thoughts and compare O'Hoppe to some past great catchers in Halo history!

The Los Angeles Angels take game 1 of a 3-game set against the Seattle Mariners on Monday night, winning 7-3 off the back of a Shohei Ohtani 2-run home run and a Taylor Ward 2-run blast to dead center, with some additional runs from Luis Rengifo and Brandon Drury! Reid Detmers strikes out 7, going 4-2/3rds innings, and the bullpen arms didn't allow a run! Mike and Jon have a full recap in segment 1!

Then, more news about Anthony Rendon's suspension came out yesterday, as he was originally charged with a 5-game suspension, later reduced to 4. So, what kind of precedent does this set for player-fan interactions? Will anything change after this incident? We'll share Rendon's comments and our opinions with you in segment 2!

Plus, it's US AGAINST THE WORLD. It seems that no matter what happens with the Angels, someone has the ability to put a negative spin on it. While criticism for a lot of what the Angels do is certainly deserved, when it comes to the players and team on the field, writers and talking heads just can't help themselves. That's why the Super Halo Bros. are inviting you into our cause: US against the WORLD.

Your Los Angeles Angels are 2-1 after this weekend's Opening Series against the Oakland Athletics! While it was great to have Halos' baseball back, it was not without its controversies, as the first game of the season ended in frustrating and classic Angels fashion. Shohei Ohtani delivered a dominant start, but the Angels couldn't provide enough offense to preserve Ohtani's lead, eventually blown by the bullpen. We'll recap game 1 in segment 1!

Then, Saturday and Sunday were much different, as the Halos' dominated both with their pitching and endless runs, scoring 11 in one inning on Saturday! Starts from Patrick Sandoval were helped by the likes of Mike Trout, Shohei Ohtani, Taylor Ward, and the MVP of the weekend, Logan O'Hoppe! He drove in six total RBIs over the weekend, including his first career home run on Sunday! We'll tell you all about games 2 & 3 in segment 2!

Plus, Anthony Rendon was at the center of some controversy this weekend, after footage came out that he had an incident with an A's fan. We'll give you our thoughts on the matter, the possible implications, and what needs to change in order to prevent issues like this in segment 3.
