Locked On Angels - Daily Podcast On The Los Angeles Angels

With the end of the Los Angeles Angels season now here, Mike and Jon share some numbers that demonstrate what kind of team they were in 2022, and, some of these may surprise you! We'll take a look at the year-end stats and share the fWAR numbers that sum up where the Angels have needs moving into 2023.

Then, while the Angels just gave Shohei Ohtani a $30 million dollar deal for 2023, they will also have to pay their young talent in arbitration, including Jared Walsh, Taylor Ward, and Patrick Sandoval among others. Where do the arbitration salaries land? We'll share the details and provide our opinion on if these projections come in high or too low.

Plus, with the pending sale of the Halos, we take a look at the top Greater Los Angeles Area sports teams and see where our beloved team ranks among them. A Southern California sports team is a hot commodity, and Mike and Jon believe potential owners will be chomping at the bit to get ahold of the Angels and the potential for even more value in the years to come.

It's been the same story each year for Los Angeles Angels fans: if they could get a healthy season from their lineup, the Halos would be a winning team. Unfortunately, that's not how things have gone and how an MLB season works, and three key players will need healthy seasons to help the Angels reach their goals. We'll dive into the numbers for Jared Walsh, David Fletcher, and Anthony Rendon, compare their numbers with prior seasons, and share what we expect from them in 2023!

While the Los Angeles Angels are not in the playoffs at the moment, that won't stop the national media from making our beloved Halos into a punching bag! Shohei Ohtani returned to Japan this week, and in speaking to the media, he mentioned his disappointment with the results of this season. Unfortunately, this comment was spun into massive clickbait, and the Super Halo Bros. are here to set the record straight!

Then, is there such a thing as "Shohei Fatigue"? We'll examine why this term has entered the baseball conversation, what it means, and why it's happened in segment 2.

Plus, the Atlanta Braves have locked up their core of young players for years to come, and it got Mike and Jon thinking about the core of Halos that could be locked up for the foreseeable future! Who makes up our version of the Braves' talent? We'll tell you in segment 3!

While many of us thought that the Los Angeles Angels had their closer locked up for the next few seasons, the Halos opted to move Raisel Iglesias in a salary dump to the Atlanta Braves, where he had an incredible 2nd half. Although it may seem that the curse of the Angels struck once again, Mike and Jon dive into Raisel's numbers with both the Angels and the Braves to figure out what caused him to have so much more success in the NL East.

Then, in 2020, the Angels had the opportunity to hire Dave Dombrowski as their General Manager. With his track record and the success the Philadelphia Phillies are having this season with Dombrowski at the helm, would the Angels have had that same level of success? Mike and Jon discuss if his approach would've put the Angels on a winning path, or if Perry Minasian's approach was the better choice.

Plus, Albert Pujols has said that he will fulfill his 10-year personal services contract with the Angels. Is this a good thing or a bad thing? Mike and Jon share their thoughts on the returning Albert Pujols and what it might mean moving forward.

Now that 2022 is over, we examine the moves that Los Angeles Angels General Manager Perry Minasian made before the season, how we graded those moves, and how we would grade them after the results. Despite attempting to fix the bullpen, other holes were revealed on the Angels' roster that will need to be addressed in 2023. Get Mike and Jon's takes on Perry's job in segment 1!

Then, will Jo Adell be a big-time player for the Angels, or simply be a role player? We'll discuss the former #1 pick's development and where we see him in the coming years.

Plus, a tweet from former Angels broadcaster, Victor Rojas, got us excited at the prospect of him returning to the booth. Would the Super Halo Bros. like to see Victor return? We'll tell you our answers in segment 3!

With the offseason approaching, all eyes will be on Aaron Judge and his potential suitors, and how might this influence the potential contract that Shohei Ohtani will receive once the time comes? Mike and Jon speculate on what an offer to Shohei Ohtani may look like and the other big contracts around the league!

Then, Mike Trout recently stated that the Angels Front Office listens to his input in terms of moves and other important happenings with the team, so we wonder; what should Mike Trout say to Perry Minasian as the Halos head into the offseason? We'll share our thoughts in segment 2!

Plus, another day, another autograph hawk story. After the story of Mike Trout "ignoring" two kids asking for an autograph was revealed to be an autograph hawk trying to get Trout's signature, the number-one pick of the Pittsburgh Pirates reveals the truth about another manipulative parent trying to score a pricey autograph. This begs the question of... WHY? We'll share our thoughts on the matter in segment 3!

The fallout from the tragic passing of Los Angeles Angels pitcher Tyler Skaggs reached another milestone on Tuesday, as former Angels employee, Eric Kay, was sentenced to 22 years in prison due to his involvement in the Skaggs situation. Mike and Jon discuss the result of the conviction and how this reflects upon the Angels organization, and what the team should do when the new owners take over.

Then, with the implementation of the pitch clock in 2023, which Halo hurlers will benefit and which may struggle? We've got our thoughts on who it may benefit and how pitching coach Matt Wise and the team have responded so far.

Plus, Bob Nightengale had a brief mention of the Angels ownership situation in a recent article, and it got us thinking about the New York Mets and their owner Steve Cohen. Would we be okay making the playoffs and having a situation like the Mets' quick exit take place? We'll break down what we'd like to see with the next owner!

Former Los Angeles Angels manager, Joe Maddon, has an upcoming book to sell, so he's certainly prone to raising some controversy about his time with the Angels. Last week, he spoke about his issues with the Angels' front office, specifically Angels GM Perry Minasian, and how he felt that he interfered with his ability to manage the game due to having Mike Trout removed from the late innings of an 11-3 blowout against the Rays. Mike and Jon will share Maddon's comments and respond; is he in the right, or is he just trying to sell books?

Then, the Super Halo Bros. discuss 2022's attendance numbers at Angel Stadium. For the first time in 20 years, the Angels came in under their 3 million mark in a full regular season. Is this an issue of the Halos' product on the field, or is it a new normal for Anaheim?

Plus, with this weekend's crazy Wildcard games, we ask how the Angels might have performed if they had made it. Would they have succeded? Mike thinks one way, and Jon thinks the other. Get our takes in segment 3!

The Los Angeles Angels once again did not make the playoffs, but we've got former Halos who are set to make an impact on the teams they're playing for in the post-season. Mike and Jon take a look at the seasons of Albert Pujols, Brandon Marsh, Noah Syndergaard, and Raisel Iglesias, as they look to bring a championship to their teams in 2022!

Then, two Locked On Angels listeners reached out with the same question; would Luis Rengifo be an effective player in Left Field? Mike and Jon examine how that would impact the Angels' lineup in 2023 and consider Geefy in the outfield!

Plus, how superstitious are you as a baseball fan? A fantastic voicemail from a Locked On Angels listener causes the Super Halo Bros. to consider just how superstitious they are when it comes to watching Angels baseball!
