Locked On Angels - Daily Podcast On The Los Angeles Angels

The Los Angeles Angels add a lefty to the starting rotation in the form of Tyler Anderson! Coming off a career year with the Dodgers, Anderson earns a 3-year, $39 million dollar contract with the Halos, ensuring that the Angels' starting pitching continues its strong steps forward in 2023. We'll give you the details, the stats, and our initial reactions in segment 1!

Then, can Tyler Anderson sustain the kind of pitching performance he had with the Los Angeles Dodgers, or will he revert to the old version of himself? The Super Halo Bros. think he can maintain his outstanding 2022, and Jon has the specific stats to backup Anderson's breakout season and why it will continue into 2023.

Plus, what's next for the Angels? Now that they have added a rotation piece, what position will they add to? What does this mean for the rest of the Halos' off-season, and does Perry Minasian finally have the go-ahead to make the moves the Angels need to make? We'll discuss it all in segment 3!

The Los Angeles Angels could certainly use one of the big-name free-agent shortstops this season, and today, we're beginning our "Making the Case" series, starting with Xander Bogaerts! There's a reason he's a highly-regarded choice at shortstop across MLB, and the Angels would benefit from the offense that Bogaerts offers to the lineup. In segment 1, we'll take a look at his offense and how that would make for a significant upgrade at the shortstop position for the Halos!

Then, despite having Gold Glove-caliber defense at shortstop, the Angels would not be losing much if they were to swap Andrew Velazquez with Xander at the position. We'll discuss his defensive stats and a surprising development that has taken place over the past season and dream of an infield consisting of Bogaerts, Anthony Rendon, David Fletcher, and Jared Walsh!

Plus, we'll evaluate the pros and cons of signing Bogaerts to a deal this off-season. Will money be an advantage or a disadvantage to the payroll? What about the qualifying offer tied to Xander? We'll discuss it all in segment 3!

The Los Angeles Angels' Shohei Ohtani is once again in the AL MVP race for the second year in a row, and we're taking a look at how he stacks up against his competition, Yordan Alvarez, and of course, Aaron Judge! Will Shohei's combined pitching and hitting stats be enough to net him another MVP trophy, or will Aaron Judge's home run record season stand in his way? We'll dive into the stats in segment 1!

Then, Shohei Ohtani was not a finalist for the AL Cy Young Award... what?!? While he may not have been the one to walk away with the trophy, Mike and Jon make the case that he should have been considered as a finalist against the likes of Justin Verlander, Dylan Cease, and Alek Manoah. Who do the Super Halo Bros. think Ohtani should have been a finalist over? We'll tell you in segment 2!

Plus, even though GM Perry Minasian said that Shohei will not be traded this offseason, it could still be possible that he will move to a contender at the Trade Deadline this summer, especially if the Angels are out of contention. While we want to see the Halos try to go for it with Ohtani in 2023, if the worst-case scenario happens, the team could still get a haul for Shohei. We'll take a look at some big Rental deals of the past and show you why the Angels could still win big at the deadline!

As Los Angeles Angels owner Arte Moreno prepares to sell the team, the Super Halo Bros. reflect on his twenty years with the Halos. Although things started out well in the first decade, the second half was difficult for fans of the team, and the lack of results on the field has turned opinions on Arte for the worse. In segment 1, we'll discuss where we think things began to go wrong, starting with Tony Reagins as the GM.

Then, we'll take a look at another mistake that caused difficulty for the Angels and their minor league system, and that was the dismissal of Scouting Director Eddie Bane, whose 2009 draft should have earned him a lifetime contract with players like Mike Trout, Tyler Skaggs, and many more.

Plus, how did the hiring of team president John Carpino influence the team? We'll dive into how his background and marketing focus may have earned the team a lot of value, but the money did not translate to results on the field.

The Los Angeles Angels will have new ownership in 2023, and as we eagerly anticipate the change, we look back at some of the decisions made during Disney's time at the helm, first looking at how they revamped the fan experience for those who love our Halos. What did Disney do to enhance the stadium? We'll take a look in segment 1!

Then, we'll examine the personnel that Disney hired and allowed to take care of baseball decisions, including the likes of Mike Scioscia and Bill Stonemen, two Angels greats, and how this approach led to the Angels' success in the coming years.

Plus, how did the Angels draft during the Disney era? You might know some of the names if you're a longtime fan, and these names helped bring a World Series trophy to Anaheim. Most importantly, Disney stayed out of the way! We'll take a look at the players who made an impact on the Halos in segment 3!

The Los Angeles Angels revamped their hitting and pitching staff on Monday, bringing in former big-leaguer Marcus Thames, previously a hitting coach with the Yankees and Marlins, Phil Plantier, coming from the Marlins AAA team and credited by many young hitters on changing their careers, and Bill Hezel from Driveline as the assistant pitching coach! We'll give you the insight you're looking for into each name and share our perspective on what each brings to the Halos in 2023.

Then, GM Perry Minasian made it clear; Shohei Ohtani will NOT be traded this offseason! The Super Halo Bros. consider this a good thing, and we'll tell you why in segment 2.

Plus, the very first owner of the Angels, the Singing Cowboy Gene Autry, set a great example of what we're looking for in a new owner, and we'll take lessons from Autry and share what the next owner should do to follow in his footsteps. Don't miss it in segment 3!

The Los Angeles Angels ownership has not endeared itself to fans in recent years with the lack of good product they've put on the field, and the bad vibes have spilt into the ownership's relationship with the City of Anaheim. While the Anaheim Ducks' owners, the Samuelis, have worked out a deal to bring a new destination spot to Anaheim in the form of OC Vibe, the Angels have had a land deal fall through thanks to shady dealings and lawsuits. Mike and Jon will discuss the difference between Arte Moreno and the Samuelis in segment 1!

Then, as the City of Anaheim works to build out the 820 acres around Angel Stadium and the Honda Center, a new dispute has arisen between the team and the city involving the maintenance of the stadium as well as the development of a fire station on the parking lot property. We'll dive into the details in segment 2.

Plus, the wrongful death claim filed by the Skaggs family has a court date set for next October, and though things could be settled before it goes to trial, will this influence any potential buyers when making a decision about the Angels? Will the new owners be held accountable, or will Arte Moreno and his staff be the ones to face legal action? We'll discuss it all in segment 3.
