Locked On Angels - Daily Podcast On The Los Angeles Angels

The Los Angeles Angels need to fix their bullpen in 2023, and they have plenty of options when doing so, including players at the Major-League level, like fan-favorite Chris Rodriguez. How will the bullpen take shape next season, and who is likely to be in it? We'll break down the Halos' options who are already with the big-league club!

Then, with all of the amazing arms in the Minor Leagues, the Angels will have plenty of options for the bullpen if they want to take a chance on some young pitchers, including the likes of Eric Torres and Ben Joyce! We'll give you some potential arms who could make a difference in shutting a game down and their stats, so you'll know who to look out for in 2023!

Plus, there are a number of free-agent arms available on the market, and if the Angels decide to go the spending route, they could make a splash with a big-time closer or add another veteran arm to compliment Aaron Loup and Ryan Tepera. Who's available, and who could the Super Halo Bros. see the Angels bringing in for 2023? We'll let you know in segment 3!

The Los Angeles Angels HAVE pitching. Angel fans know this. Locked On Angels listeners know this. So why is the narrative around the Halos *still* about how they need pitching? It seems that every time they make a much-needed move to improve the offense, casual fans remark about how it's not a pitcher or that it's not going to help. Well today, we're here to SET THE RECORD STRAIGHT! In segment 1, we'll be talking about the starting pitching talent at the major-league level, including Shohei Ohtani, Patrick Sandoval, and Reid Detmers!

Then, we'll take a look at who's making the climb through the ranks in the minors, such as starting pitchers Chase Silseth, Ky Bush, and more. There's hope for the pitching future of our Halos, and we're going to make sure the world knows!

Plus, how can the Angels flip the script and change this narrative about their starting pitching? The Super Halo Bros. have a few ways that they can prove everyone wrong in 2023, and we've got the reasons for you in segment 3!

The Los Angeles Angels are no strangers to incredible talent coming over from Japan, as Shohei Ohtani has been changing the game as a Halo. Now that Kodai Senga, a star starting pitcher from NPB, is headed over to the states, should the Angels make a play to sign him? What might we expect from Senga if he were to join Ohtani in the rotation? Today on Locked On Angels, we're making the case for Kodai! We'll give you the pros, cons, and our final verdicts on whether or not the Halos should sign Kodai Senga for 2023!

The Los Angeles Angels have had their share of injuries over the last few years, and 2022 exposed just how badly they need their stars to stay healthy. Whether it's pitching, hitting, or on defense, the Halos will benefit from the return of some key players, and today, we're looking at 3 who will be making their return in 2023, starting with Griffin Canning! How will he impact the team once he returns to the mound, and does he figure into the Angels' starting rotation? We'll give you our thoughts on Canning in segment 1!

Then, the Angels' biggest offseason signing of 2019 was Anthony Rendon, and while he had a successful 60-game sprint in 2020, injuries kept him off the field in 21 and 22. Will Anthony return to form in 2023 and provide the impactful bat and glove we know that he has? We'll dive in and see how big of an impact Anthony Rendon can have with the Halos this season!

Plus, Jared Walsh, an All-Star in 2021, dealt with an injury that diminished his production at the plate in 2022. Now that he's healthy, what kind of impact will he have once he returns? Will he be the near-30 home run hitter we saw in 2021? We'll discuss Walshy, his offense, and defense in segment 3!

The Los Angeles Angels made a surprise move on Tuesday night, making a trade with the Milwaukee Brewers for outfielder Hunter Renfroe! Mike Trout's doppelganger will be joining the Halos in 2023, presumably to play left field, but he adds a nice bat to the lineup with some home-run pop and a great defensive glove. Mike and Jon will break down who we're getting in Hunter Renfroe in segment 1!

Then, we'll discuss the pitchers the Angels sent over to Milwaukee: Janson Junk, Elvis Peguero, and Adam Seminaris. Did the Angels give up too much talent, or are these arms expendable considering the abundance of pitching the Angels suddenly have in the minors? We'll share our thoughts in segment 2!

Plus, what does this move mean for the future of Jo Adell? Does this rule him out of a place on the team, and perhaps Mickey Moniak as well? We'll ask this question and discuss if the Halos won this trade!

The Los Angeles Angels GM Perry Minasian has been busy so far this off-season, trading for Gio Urshela last week to help provide some infield depth for our Halos! Though Urshela is primarily a 3rd baseman, he will likely see playing time all over the field, and the Angels can rely on him in case they lose a primary player to injury. The Super Halo Bros. explain how he'll be used, where he'll place in the lineup, and what Gio brings to the table in segment 1!

Then, we take a look at Alejandro Hidalgo, the minor-league pitcher the Angels traded to the Twins to acquire Urshela. With an abundance of arms in the minors, the Halos were able to trade from that surplus, and Mike and Jon examine how this ability helps the Angels moving forward.

Plus, what's next for the Halos? Will they make a move for a big-time shortstop since there are several options this off-season, and will that keep some of our prospects from moving up the ranks, such as Zach Neto or Livan Soto? We'll give you our thoughts on the matter in segment 3!

You asked all the right questions for today's MONDAY MAILBAG! Would a trade for Alex Verdugo solve the Left Field issue? The Los Angeles Angels came up short of a playoff spot in 2022, even with expanded playoffs, going 73-89 and falling under .500 in yet another season. The frustrating part? They would've only needed 13 more wins to match the Tampa Bay Rays record and find a way into the Wildcard race. Unfortunately, wins were hard to come by for the Halos, due to a lack of offense, bullpen blowups, and some poor management. In today's show, we'll take you through several games that could've easily gone the Angels' way if not for the issues that plagued them this season, and we'll show you how 13 winnable games could have made for a very different season for our Halos! Are the Angels really that far out from being a playoff team? We'll tell you all about it, today on Locked On Angels!
