Cale Makar will not be on the ice for the Colorado Avalanche for Game 5 of the series with the Seattle Kraken after his hit on Jared McCann. Why this calls into question, yet again, the inconsistencies of the Department of Player Safety.

The Avalanche will have to really turn things around with how they are starting games if they want to leave Denver with a 3-2 series lead. Once again Seattle set the tone of the game and it took the Avalanche a period plus to get back into the flow. Playing from behind is not what you want and the Avs have done that every game of the series.

Things are getting tense between the two teams, and the Avs are playing into it with some bad penalties that is costing them on the ice.

The Colorado Avalanche seem to have found their game somewhere in the middle of Game 2 vs the Seattle Kraken and the question was could they continue that into Game 3, the first game of the series in Seattle?

The answer to that was a resounding yes (save for 19 seconds) and the Avs have regained control of the series, leading it 2-1.

Colorado will look to take a commanding 3-1 series lead Monday night.

We also touch on the Val Nichushkin issue and hope whatever it is that has caused him to not be with the team is nothing serious and he is able to rejoin the Avs when he is able to do so.

It didn't start pretty. In fact, it was downright ugly. The Colorado Avalanche followed up a suspect game 1 effort with a first period that was probably their worst period of the season. Not what you want to see in the playoffs. It also found them down 2-0 after the first, which included a Seattle short-handed goal.

But in 48 seconds all that changed. Artturi Lehkonen and Val Nichushikin both found the net in the blink of an eye and then everything changed. Things started opening up for the Avalanche that the Kraken had not allowed prior. We started to see Avalanche hockey again.

And then Devon Toews sealed the deal off a juicy Philipp Grubauer rebound to give the Avs the win and tie the series up.

Now we head to Seattle. What will we see? The team that showed up and struggled to do anything right, or the team that turned it around and started to take control and play Avs hockey?

The series is far from over.

Not how you want to start your title defense. The Colorado Avalanche were off on the little details for the majority of their opening game against the Seattle Kraken and lose 3-1 to go down in the series 1-0.

It was things you would expect in the first week of the season when you are getting into the flow of a new hockey season. Not in game one of the playoffs. But then again, several players were coming back from injury, so maybe it does make a little sense.

Either way, the Kraken was the better team in game 1. But that is not to say the Avalanche was run out of the building. They clearly did not play their best hockey, but they had moments where it looked like they were taking control, only to have Seattle get back to their gameplan of taking away time and space.

The Avalanche have some changes they need to make, and if there is one thing this team is good at doing, it's making those changes following a loss.

Nathan MacKinnon made sure the Colorado Avalanche would complete one of the most strenuous seasons in Avalanche history at the top of the Central Division.

The Avs superstar scored four points including his third goal with just over a minute left in the game vs the Nashville Predators to give the Avalanche another division title. One that looked like a pipe dream halfway through the season.

The time frame kept getting pushed back and in the back of our heads, we all thought the inevitable was possible. And before puck drop Thursday night against the Winnipeg Jets, the Colorado Avalanche and Gabriel Landeskog made it official. The Captain won't play at all this year, regular season or playoffs due to the knee injury and surgery he has been dealing with for some time now.

But if there is anything this team this year has shown, it's toughness. And the Avs will have to have that without one of the toughest guys on the team in Landeskog.

Despite all the injuries throughout this season, the Avalanche are on the verge of taking the division. A win over the Nashville Predators Friday night would secure that.

Can you smell the playoffs?! If you watched that matchup between the Colorado Avalanche and Edmonton Oilers, you know it's close. With the exception of that pesky 3 on 3 overtime, which is non-existent in the postseason.
