The Colorado Avalanche needed a late 3rd period surge and OT to complete a come from behind win over the Anaheim Ducks Sunday night, but some would argue they shouldn't have put themselves in that situation to begin with after a 2-0 leaf turned into a 4-2 deficit.

Nonetheless, the Avalanche gained two more points to put them solely in the top spot of the Central Division with 3 games left to play.

Nathan MacKinnon netted the game winner, his 3rd point of the game, while Mikko Rantanen joined his teammate in the 100 club earlier in the contest.

For the Colorado Avalanche it was simple. Win against the San Jose Sharks and your ticket for the post season is punched. It ended up being more difficult than expected, but the Avalanche managed to come away with a 4-3 win in OT to clinch their spot in the NHL playoffs.

The winning goal, scored by Nathan MacKinnon, was a milestone one for the superstar. Nate's previous career high in points was 99, but he can now join the 100 club. And he's done it in far less games than others in the league have taken to get to the century mark. Does this vault MacKinnon into the Hart conversation?

The Colorado Avalanche and Minnesota Wild showed why a 7 game series between the two would likely go the full 7 games.

Minnesota got the better of the Avalanche with some nifty goals and two of the short handed variety, but at the same time, the Avalanche showed why they are never out of a matchup. There are no doubt moments the Avs wish they could do over, but that will have to wait until a potential playoff matchup.

The Avalanche had their chances, ones they typically capitalize on. But a shutdown performance by Wild goalie Filip Gustavsson prevented the come back effort.

The Colorado Avalanche had a comfortable 2-0 lead against the Arizona Coyotes at Mullett Arena Sunday afternoon, but we learned why no 2-0 lead can ever be looked at as comfortable. Even against the Yotes. Arizona fought their way back to even twice to force the game into OT, then a shoot-out where one man snuck a goal through in the seventh round. That man was Val Nichushkin, and the Avalanche take both games of a home and home against Arizona.

The Avalanche are now tied in points with the Dallas Stars for 2nd place in the Central Division. Both teams trail the Minnesota Wild by a single point, and it just so happens the Avalanche take on both of those teams later this week.

Mikko Rantanen should / could have had 50 goals on the season, but a couple of flukey plays prevented that from happening.

The Colorado Avalanche and the Pittsburgh Penguins both had something to play for. The Avs could have been sitting atop the Central Division with a win while the Penguins would have crept back into a Wild Card spot for the playoffs. The Penguins seemed to want their playoff spot more than the Avs wanted divisional clout.

The Avs six game winning streak came to a crashing stop Wednesday night as the Penguins made life difficult for Colorado, getting them off their game and forcing them to be inconsistent with their style of play. The Avs grinded, and even pulled to within one following a Devon Toews power play goal, but a rebuttal goal and then an empty netter sealed this games fate.

The Avs also let Jeff Carter skate around the ice untouched. Which is a little odd considering this was the first time the teams faced each other since Carter sent Cale Makar to miss time with a concussion thanks to Carter's elbow. Nothing? Why that is concerning.

The Colorado Avalanche cruised to a 5-0 win over the Chicago Blackhawks Monday night to bring their winning streak to six games, and they did it on the backs of guys like Denis Malgin and Kurtis MacDermid. You read that right.

The Avs are getting great production up and down the lineup right now, which is making things for guys like Mikko Rantanen easier. Rantanen also found the back of the net in this one, leaving him a hat trick away from getting 50 on the season. Will he get them all against the Pittsburgh Penguins Wednesday night??

Jared Bednar took the day off to sign on with the Avs for another three years behind the bench. Of course we are biased, but we think we have the best coach in the league, and to keep him around for years to come gives us a sense of comfort.

The league also went out a signed a deal of their own with Fanatics. The apparel supplier will be solely responsible for providing the league with it's uniforms when the current Adidas deal runs out following next season. Fans aren't happy. We discuss.

The Colorado Avalanche came together as a team in the last week, and that's what can happen out on the open road.

The Avs have really found their game over the past month, and during this recent four game road trip, really seemed to put them emphasis on tightening up their defensive structure and game plan. Sure, Detroit had 34 shots on goal, but the Avalanche made sure very few were of the high danger variety.

After a sluggish first period, the Avalanche kicked it in to high gear and found their scoring touch, while making Detroit work for every opportunity they could conure up, and in the end, the Avalanche beat the Red Wings for the 10th consecutive time.

All is going well for the Avalanche as they are home this week and welcome the Chicago Blackhawks Monday night.
