Another division crossover episode to get you ready for the season! Today we welcome our good friends Nick and Ann from Locked on Predators! We discuss what the Predators need to do in goal in terms of giving star goalie Juuse Saros some rest. How necessary is it? What prospects should we be on the lookout for? And how dare they take Keifer Sherwood from us!

The Preds were very active in the offseason but didn't make the moves that make the headlines. They also have many of their players signed under contract for years to come. Showing they are committed to these players. Is it a risk and one worth taking?

It's always an enjoyable discussion when we link up with Nick and Ann! Tune in, enjoy and be sure to subscribe!

The Colorado Avalanche played twice Sunday in their first action of preseason games. One squad went up north to play the Minnesota Wild while another stayed home to play the Vegas Golden Knights.

Unfortunately, the Minnesota game wasn't available to watch but we can take some pride in the fact that the majority of that team were young prospects and went up against a Minnesota team playing several starters.

After getting behind by two in the 2nd period, the young Avs tied it up in the 3rd behind goals from Spencer Smallman and Shane Bowers. They would eventually lose it in OT, but to hang with the big boys was something we are sure Jared Bednar, who was coaching this squad, can be proud of.

In the other game, many more of the Avs set to make the official roster took part, along with many prospects vying for a roster spot.

We got to see what Evan Rodrigues can do with his deadly shot. Young guys like Oskar Olausson, Jean-Luc Foudy, and Alex Beaucage put their talent on display, while Martin Kaut struggled.

And what about Alex Georgiev? How did he look in playing half the game? Chris was impressed.

In the end, the Avs scored three unanswered to beat Vegas, 3-1

We here at Locked on Avalanche look at the Vegas Golden Knights as the team we love to hate. It's like a soap opera playing out on the ice. So today we catch up with Locked on VGK host Tony Cordasco, who pulls no punches when it comes to covering the team.

Tony has no problems calling out Vegas when they do things that hurt their team, but also will give them credit when they don't. He tells us what he thinks this team can accomplish this season. Are they a playoff team or not?

Tony also updates us on some prospects the Knights have in the pipeline, and exactly what the heck are they going to do with their goalie situation.

You are gonna want to tune into this one. Tony is a real treat!

Seth shares what things look like going into this season for the Wild. What is expected of them as far as a playoff run, and if the buyouts of Suter and Parise are having any ill effects on them and the cap.

Nathan MacKinnon himself said he thought a deal between him and the Colorado Avalanche was close. He was right.

MacKinnon and the Avalanche agreed on an 8 year, $12.6 million AAV deal which will make him the highest paid player in the league. Surpassing Edmonton superstar Connor McDavid by $100,000. The deal doesn't kick in until next season as MacKinnon plays the final year of his steal contract this coming season.

It's a massive contract for one of the league's best players. But will it hamstring the Avs next season as they will need money to sign RFA's Alex Newhook and Bowen Byram. The Avs might have to lay low for a season, but can get right back into the game the following year when the salary cap is expected to go up significantly.

A lot to break down here! Tune in and enjoy!

The Colorado Avalanche played their final game of this year's rookie camp tournament, beating the Arizona Coyotes 4-0. The Avs finish the camp winning two games while losing one. W talk about the camp, what it means to these young players, and why we shouldn't get too up or too down if a prospect plays well or not.

Cale Makar took part in the Vegas Players Media Tour and was asked what he thought about fees paid by players to Hockey Canada going into a fund to pay for any sexual assault claims against their players. Makar was very open about his thoughts.

Finally, the newest member of the Avs, Evan Rodrigues, has kept the number he wore while in Pittsburgh, the number 9. Avs fans have a specific feeling towards that number and for good reason. Will Rodrigues now wearing that number change their feelings?

It's a Central Division Crossover Special to get you acquainted with the teams from across the division before the start of the regular season. Today, Dane Lewis from Locked on Stars joins and we get answers as to if Stars fans were happy with the Pete DeBoer hiring. Can the Stars be a team that sneaks into the playoffs? What is taking so long in the Jason Robertson contact signing? And Jake Ottinger, ready to be at the top level of goalies in the league?

Dane also asks us some of the important questions facing the Avalanche such as the goalie position and what will life be like without Nazem Kadri.

We also discuss Nathan MacKinnon speaking about a contract extension. The superstar forward said things are progressing and he expects a deal to happen prior to opening night. We Avs faithful can exhale.

That glaring need left by Nazem Kadri got a little less dim Monday morning as the Colorado Avalanche went out and signed free agent forward Evan Rodrigues to a one year, $2 million dollar deal.

Does this replace the production of Kadri? No. But it does settle the stomachs of some Avs fans as to what the Avalanche will have at the 2C position on opening night.

Rodrigues had a career year last season with the Pittsburgh Penguins and there is every reason to believe that he could match and surpass his numbers from last year (41 points) playing on a better team in the Avs.

We break it all down as well as take a look at what the lines could look like on that opening night against Chicago.

Wayne Gretzky has about a bazillion NHL records. He's not called The Great One for nothing. The fact that Alex Ovechkin might surpass him in career goals is nothing short of a miracle.

But it got us thinking if Nathan MacKinnon played another 13 seasons which would take him to the age of 40, what would he need to average per year in certain categories to catch Gretzky. It's as daunting as you think. However, there is one MacKinnon has an outside chance at catching. A lot needs to happen, but there's a chance.

We also take a few listener questions, and with the NFL opening night kicking off, what can the NHL do similar to the NFL to make their opening night something everyone is talking about?

The NHL Twitter page posted a graphic with their Top 10 breakout candidates for next year with Alexander Georgiev and Bowen Byram making the list. Do we agree and are there other Avalanche players who could have that breakout season?

It would benefit Byram to have that breakout year considering he will be a RFA next offseason. We put our GM hats on and try to look at what contracts for the defenseman and his 1st round mate Alex Newhook could look like? Should the Avs roll the dice and let the season play out, and if one or both of them have a breakout season then have to pay up? Or do they just get those deals done ASAP?

Finally, we ask the question if the Avalanche should be at the top of any and all power rankings due to their championship and keeping key pieces of their team in tact. Or is there a team out there that had a good off-season that should leap over the Avs in the rankings?
