It was no secret the Avs needed help in the backup goalie department, and they are hoping they get it in a deal they made with Buffalo to bring in Jonas Johansson for a 6th round pick in next years draft. Johansson is still unproven and is still developing, but the Avalanche feel confident in their scouting of Jonas to hand him the backup keys.

Every game in this season is an important one. Last nights was no different. With a win the Avalanche would leap over the Wild and take sole possession of 2nd place in the standings. They did so in dominating fashion. The Avs fired 55 shots on goal, 25 in the first period, 17 in the first ten minutes. Cale Makar and Bowen Byrum made their long awaited returns and both played big roles in the Avs win.

In other Avalanche news, Ball Arena announced fans will be allowed inside to watch the Avs and the Nuggets starting with the Avs game against the St. Louis Blues on April 2nd. The amount of fans will be limited to about 4,000, but this is a step in the right direction to getting back to some normalcy. Tune in and subscribe!

There will be two factions of people who will want to talk about this game. The side that talks about how the Avalanche went on an offensive outburst in netting eight goals, and the side that will talk about Hunter Miska's no good, very bad day. Both would be valid.

The Colorado Avalanche handed the Anaheim Ducks four 1st period goals with Miska in net. Coach Bednar had seen enough, made the switch to Philipp Grubauer who proceeded to shut the door on the Ducks while the Avalanche began their comeback one goal at a time. In the end, Colorado had too much fire power for Anaheim to catch up.

The Colorado Avalanche are clearly in need of some relief when it comes to their goalie situation. Philipp Grubauer has been nothing short of spectacular, but the way this season is constructed they are putting a lot of strain on the man. Many believe the Avs will need to make a deal for some relief if Pavel Francouz will be out for the duration of the year. The Hockey Writers have a good article on four goalies the Avs could target. Let's take a look at those possibilities.

Next, I dive into the Three Stars of Last Week (Not Named Nathan) and for this week I hand out four players to fill those three spots. Why? Because sometimes it is necessary, and it's my show so I make the rules.

On todays episode of Locked on Avalanche, I start with taking a look back at the weekend the Avalanche had against the Los Angeles Kings. Colorado was able to take both games vs LA but it was more of the same that we have been seeing. The Avs with 40+ shots of goal and just winning by the skin of their teeth. Is this a trend the Avs can break? Does this have more to do with the Avalanche and their shot selection or are the goalies they are going up against just having the game of their careers?

In the second segment, I continue to praise our goalie, Philipp Grubauer. We all heard the talk at the beginning of the season and how the one thing that would prevent the Avs from lifting the Cup, it was going to be their goalie play. Nobody had faith in Philipp Grubauer to be their A1 goalie or to stay healthy. He has proven both aspects wrong so far and is a leading Vezina Trophy candidate.

Finally, the NHL made waves in announcing they have signed a seven year deal with ESPN to televise the league. Many people are happy about this, I'm on the other side of the fence. Sure, this deal is good to spread the game and get more viewers, but at the cost of being under the ESPN umbrella that can sometimes blur the line between sports journalism and TMZ. Your viewing experience is about to change.

Brandon Saad found the net about a minute and a half into the game, and with Nathan MacKinnon flying around like Mighty Mouse, things were looking good. But as each minute ticked off the clock and the Avs still had a lonely '1' on the scoreboard, bad thoughts started creeping into our heads. Arizona would tie it late in the 2nd, but Captain Gabe Landeskog saved the day with an OT winner in the last minute. We should be happy the Avs emerged with a win, but why was it so damn difficult?? Maybe, just maybe, this is the start of a trend where Avalanche players return to the ice instead of leaving it. For most of the game the Colorado Avalanche did everything right. Except win. The Avs got some great looks but just could not slam the door. The Arizona Coyotes were not getting any good looks. But redirected shots proved to be on their side as all three goals for the Yotes came by way of the tip in. In the end, it's an L for the Avs, who need to start stringing together wins and quickly.
