Sawyer Robertson's performance in the final four games of the 2024 Baylor football season was noticeably hampered by an ankle injury, impacting his mobility and overall effectiveness. Here's how it hindered him and why he's poised for a stronger 2025:

• Mobility Restriction:
  • An ankle injury severely restricts a quarterback's ability to move within the pocket and escape pressure.
  • Robertson's scrambling and improvisational skills, likely a strength, were compromised.
• Throwing Mechanics:
  • Ankle injuries can affect a quarterback's throwing mechanics, impacting accuracy and velocity.
  • The injury could have disrupted his footwork and balance, leading to inconsistent throws.
• Pain and Focus:
  • Playing through pain can affect a player's focus and decision-making.
  • Robertson likely battled discomfort, which could have impacted his performance.
• Limited Practice:
  • Injuries often limit practice time, hindering a player's ability to fine-tune their skills and build chemistry with receivers.
  • This lack of practice time would have hurt his game.

Why he'll be better in 2025:

• Full Recovery:
  • With a full offseason to heal, Robertson will regain his mobility and throwing mechanics.
  • A healthy Robertson will be a much better player.
• Increased Experience:
  • The playing time he did get, even while injured, provided valuable experience.
  • This experience will help him grow as a quarterback.
• Improved Chemistry:
  • Another year in the system will enhance his chemistry with receivers and the offensive line.
  • Chemistry is very important for a quarterback.
• Offseason Development:
  • A full offseason of training and film study will allow him to refine his skills and improve his understanding of the offense.
  • This will allow him to be even better.
• Stronger Team Around Him:
  • With a strong recruiting class, and transfer portal additions, the team around him will be better.

Robertson's resilience in playing through injury demonstrates his toughness. A fully healthy and more experienced Robertson will be a significant asset for Baylor in 2025.

Baylor basketball's recent roster depletion, with players like Langston Love and Jason Asemota entering the transfer portal, necessitates an aggressive approach to the transfer portal before the 2025-26 season. Here's why:

• Filling Roster Voids:
  • The departures have created significant holes in Baylor's guard and forward rotations. The portal offers a chance to quickly fill these gaps with experienced players.
  • The team needs to add depth, and experience.
• Maintaining Competitiveness:
  • In the highly competitive Big 12, Baylor cannot afford a significant talent drop-off. The portal allows them to acquire players who can contribute immediately.
  • The Big 12 is a very difficult conference.
• Replacing Offensive Production:
  • Love and Asemota represented potential scoring options. Baylor must find players who can replace their offensive output.
