They almost blew it. Baylor was up 56-45 with 7 minutes left and somehow, let TCU get it to 58-58 before Rob Wright's 2 free throws with 2.2 seconds left gave the Bears a 61-58 win. Did Scott Drews team save their NCAA Tournament hopes with this win?

While both Dave Aranda and Joey McGuire have their strengths, Aranda's track record and coaching philosophy suggest he's the superior coach.

• Defensive Expertise: Aranda is widely recognized as a defensive mastermind. His defensive schemes have consistently produced high-performing units, a hallmark of his coaching career.
• Championship Pedigree: Aranda led Baylor to a Big 12 championship and a Sugar Bowl victory, demonstrating his ability to build a championship-caliber program.
• Strategic Acumen: Aranda's strategic approach to the game, including his in-game adjustments and overall game planning, has proven to be highly effective.
• Consistency: While McGuire has shown flashes of success, Aranda has displayed a greater level of consistency in his coaching career.
• Proven Results: Aranda has proven that he can build a program to a championship level.

While McGuire brings enthusiasm and a strong recruiting presence, Aranda's demonstrated ability to build a winning program and his proven defensive expertise give him the edge.

Baylor women's basketball's heartbreaking loss to TCU on March 2nd was a tough blow, especially with Big 12 title implications. However, it doesn't spell the end of their NCAA tournament aspirations. Here's how they can still make a deep run:

• Learning from Mistakes:
  • This loss should serve as a valuable learning experience. They need to analyze their mistakes, particularly in late-game execution and defensive lapses.
  • They need to take this loss, and turn it into a positive.
• Talent and Experience:
  • Baylor possesses a talented roster with experienced players. This experience is crucial in the high-pressure environment of the NCAA tournament.
  • They have the talent to beat any team in the country.
• Adjusting and Focusing:
  • They need to refocus and maintain a high level of intensity in practice and preparation.
  • They need to focus on what they can control.
• Postseason Momentum:
  • A strong performance in the Big 12 tournament can help them regain momentum and build confidence heading into the NCAA tournament.
  • The big 12 tournament will be a great test for the team.
• Coaching Adjustments:
  • Nicki Collen and her staff will need to make strategic adjustments to their game plan and player rotations to maximize their team's strengths.
  • Collen is a very good coach, and she will have the team ready to play.
• Mental Toughness:
  • The NCAA tournament is a mental grind. Baylor needs to maintain their mental toughness and composure throughout the tournament.

While the TCU loss was disappointing, Baylor has the tools to overcome it and make a significant impact in the NCAA tournament.

Whether Scott Drew would be a good culture fit at Indiana is a complex question. While his coaching success is undeniable, cultural differences and expectations could present challenges.

Potential Fit:

• Winning Culture: Drew has built a winning culture at Baylor, something Indiana desperately desires. His emphasis on team unity and player development could translate well.
• Character Development: Drew is known for emphasizing character and faith-based values, which could resonate with some Indiana fans.
• Recruiting: Drew has proven he can recruit top talent, which is essential for success in the Big Ten.

Potential Challenges:

• Public vs. Private: Baylor is a private, faith-based institution, while Indiana is a large public university. This cultural shift could be significant.
• Expectations and Pressure: Indiana's basketball program carries immense pressure and expectations. Drew is used to success, but the level of scrutiny at Indiana would be much higher.
• Fan Base: Indiana's fan base is very passionate and demanding. Drew would have to adapt to a different level of fan engagement.
• Big Ten vs. Big 12: The Big Ten and Big 12 conferences have different cultures, styles of play, and recruiting bases. Drew would have to adapt to this change.
• Recruiting Base: Drew has built his recruiting base in Texas and the surrounding states. Moving to Indiana would mean building new recruiting ties.

Ultimately, Drew's success as a coach is undeniable. However, his ability to adapt to Indiana's unique cultural landscape would be a key factor in his success.

The passing of J.J. Joe has deeply affected the Baylor football community. Joe, a former Baylor standout and a beloved figure within the program, leaves behind a legacy that extends far beyond his playing days.

After his playing days, Joe became a successful businessman, but turned his attention back to Baylor with his role as radio color commentator alongside John Morris for 21 seasons. Joe's head coach, the legendary Grant Teaff, said of his former QB "I am honored to have been J.J.'s coach...he was tough, determined and boy, did he love his teammates and Baylor University."

Joe was 54 years old.

The rumors of a potential SEC and Big Ten "super conference" are swirling, and they have the potential to reshape the landscape of college football. The concept involves these two power conferences potentially forming a new entity and extending invitations to select teams from the Big 12 and ACC.

• Power Consolidation:
  • This move would represent an unprecedented consolidation of power, creating a dominant conference with unparalleled financial and competitive advantages.
  • It would further widen the gap between the haves and have-nots in college football.
• Financial Implications:
  • The super conference would likely command massive media rights deals, generating immense revenue for its member institutions.
  • This would further increase the financial disparity between the super conference and other conferences.
• Impact on Other Conferences:
  • The Big 12 and ACC would be significantly weakened, potentially losing their most valuable programs.
  • This could lead to a domino effect, with other conferences scrambling to realign and survive.
• Potential Invitations:
  • Speculation abounds regarding which Big 12 and ACC teams would be invited. Programs with strong brands, large fan bases, and competitive football programs would be the most likely candidates.
• Future of College Football:
  • This move would represent a huge shift in the structure of college football.
  • It would bring up many questions about the future of the NCAA.

These rumors, while still speculative, highlight the ongoing power struggle and the potential for dramatic changes in college football's future.

The Indiana Hoosiers' basketball program, steeped in tradition, would have strong reasons to pursue Scott Drew as their head coach. Here's a breakdown:

Why Indiana Would Want Scott Drew:

• Proven Winner: Drew's track record at Baylor speaks for itself. He transformed a struggling program into a national powerhouse, culminating in a national championship. Indiana desires that kind of proven success.
• Recruiting Prowess: Drew has consistently demonstrated an ability to recruit top-tier talent. This is crucial for Indiana, which needs to attract elite players to compete in the Big Ten.
• Program Building: Drew has shown he can build a culture and a program that has sustained success. This is what Indiana is looking for, a coach that can bring the program back to prominence.
• Offensive System: Drew runs a very high powered offensive system that fans enjoy watching.

Why Scott Drew Might Not Want Indiana:

• Established Success at Baylor: Drew has built a comfortable and successful environment at Baylor. He has job security, strong support, and a program he built from the ground up. Leaving that for a rebuilding project at Indiana carries significant risk.
• Cultural Fit: Baylor is a private, faith-based university, and Drew's values align with that culture. Indiana, a large public university, presents a different cultural landscape.
• Big Ten vs. Big 12: While the Big Ten is a strong conference, Drew has established himself as a kingpin in the Big 12. Leaving that to have to compete in a new conference is a risk.
• Pressure and Expectations: Indiana's basketball program carries immense pressure and expectations. The fan base is passionate and demanding. Drew might prefer the relative stability and lower pressure he enjoys at Baylor.
• Recruiting Base: Drew has built his recruiting base in Texas and the surrounding states. Moving to Indiana would mean building new recruiting ties.

In essence, while Indiana would love Drew's success, Drew has a strong foundation at Baylor, making a move unlikely unless a truly exceptional offer is presented.
