Locked On Baylor - Daily Podcast on Baylor Bears Football & Basketball

Scott Drew has a tight, but successful and promising coaching tree that is taking the Big 12 by storm. Jerome Tang brought Kansas State to the Elite Eight last year while Grant McCasland was leading UNT to the NIT title, before leading Texas Tech to 22 wins in his first season in Lubbock. Paul Mills is now set out to turn Wichita State around after leading Oral Roberts to an undefeated conference title and a Sweet 16 appearance.

Former Baylor women's coach Kim Mulkey is back in the news after her polarizing comments after a brawl between her LSU Tigers and the South Carolina Gamecocks Sunday. Mulkey said she wishes South Carolina "picked on Angel Reese" instead as a way of saying "pick on someone your own size." Would we brush these comments off if they came from any other coach?

It was a tough weekend for Baylor basketball, as both the men's and women's teams let games slip away late on Saturday. The men came back from 16 down against Texas Tech to take a lead in the second half, before falling apart and losing by 10.

The women, on the other hand, had what felt like a commanding lead against Iowa State in the Big 12 tournament quarterfinals, leading by 6 with 3:09 to play. The Bears shot 3-24 in the fourth quarter and the Cyclones ended the game on a 12-1 run, but Nicki Collen is confident in her team.

The Big 12 announced their postseason awards, with Ja'Kobe Walter earning Freshman of the Year honors and three Bears making All-Big 12 teams (Walter, RayJ Dennis and Jalen Bridges.) Yves Missi and Langston Love were recognized as honorable mentions.

Same story, different day. The Baylor Bears dug themselves a eep first half hole, and came back in the second. Against Texas Tech in Lubbock, however, they did not have the fight to hold on, falling to the Red Raiders by 10. Baylor almost certainly lost its shot at a 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament, now all but needing to win the Big 12 tournament to move up.

The Baylor Bears enter the regular season finale against Texas Tech with little to play for, or so it seems. The Bears have a double BYE in the Big 12 tournament locked up, while Tech is still battling for one of those spots. Baylor, however, could sneak into a 2 seed in the NCAA tournament with another Quad 1 win on their schedule.

What would a Big 12 tournament run mean for the Baylor women's team? Spoiler: it would mean a lot. Plus, Dave Aranda finalizes his football coaching staff with the hiring of Inoke Breckterfield to coach the defensive line.

Texas Tech guard Tyeron Lindsay has not traveled with the team for the last two Red Raider games. When asked after their win over Oklahoma State, head coach Grant McCasland said "if you want to [play defense] you're going to be playing and part of the team and if you're not, then it's not going to work." At this rate, Lindsay may not suit up for Tech Saturday against the Bears.

Coaching legend Nick Saban almost retire after the 2021 and 2022 seasons, which means Dave Aranda would've been on Bama's shortlist if the job had come open those times. Scott Drew adds another award to his trophy case!

After Baylor's 93-85 win Monday night, Texas Longhorns coach Rodney Terry said the Bears "needed every call" to win. While Baylor shot twice as many free throws, Terry himself ordered no less than 10 free throws with strategic fouling in the last minute and a half of the game. Another whiny postgame press conference makes Terry something of a villain in his final days in the Big 12.

Even with Baylor's dominance in the series, it feels like a no-brainer to keep the rivalry with Texas alive on the hardwood. Plus, one of the top high school QB's in the nation visited Baylor yesterday, is the Spavital Effect starting to attract more blue chips.

The #11 Baylor Bears overcame an 8-point halftime deficit and erupted in the second half to blow by Texas in their final Big 12 regular season meeting, 93-85. The Bears were led by Jalen Bridges' career high 32 points on a heroic Senior Night performance. Baylor's victory sends Texas to the SEC having lost 14 of the last 17 matchups against the Bears.

Once again, Baylor proved they are miles better as a basketball program.

The vibes around Baylor basketball are really high after a win over #7 Kansas and with the Texas Longhorns coming to town for one final matchup as Big 12 foes. Basketball expert Branden MacKinnon of Our Daily Bears joins the show to explain his reasoning why he is writing that this Bears team looks a lot like the team that won the national championship in 2021.

Baylor women's basketball star Sarah Andrews announced during Sunday's senior day ceremonies she would be coming back for one last season with the Bears. On her day, Andrews is one of the best point guards in the country, so she could be a huge part of an important season for Nicki Collen's program.

Baylor got revenge on the Kansas Jayhawks in a sweet way Saturday, ousting KU 82-74 in front of an incredible atmosphere at the Foster Pavilion. Baylor's standout guards led the way, as RayJ Dennis and Jayden Nunn combined for 38 points with Dennis adding 10 assists. Yves Missi also shined with 17 points and five rebounds and once again outdueling Hunter Dickinson.

The #7 Kansas Jayhawks head to the Foster Pavilion Saturday following a rare home loss to BYU Tuesday. While they beat the Bears in Lawrence last month, many Baylor fans felt confident in the return trip. KU's lack of three-point shooting and perimeter defense could play right into Baylor's hands.

In Joe Lunardi's latest Bracketology, the Bears are slated as a 4 seed in Spokane, behind Purdue, Marquette and Alabama. In the newest CFP model, the top two BYEs will go automatically to the SEC and Big Ten champions. Unsurprisingly, this sucks for college football.
