Ryan Andrews discusses something that fans knew for weeks, but was finally confirmed today, that John Gibbons would not be back as manager of the Blue Jays in 2019. The host talks about Gibby's place in the Blue Jays' pantheon and who the Blue Jays should be looking for moving forward and what they can learn from Gibbons' management style.
The second segment is devoted to Jon Berti on the date of his major league debut. Teammates and media members paint the picture of a hard-working farmhand who is finally getting a moment in the sun and Andrews expresses happiness for the veteran minor leaguer.
The podcast ends with a couple of topics, including Devon Travis' knee issues and what it means moving forward for him and the Blue Jays, as well as Sean Reid-Foley's final 2018 start and what he will be looking to do to set himself up for 2019 success.

It's a tough episode of Locked on Blue Jays today, and if you're a fan, you'll know exactly why.
Host Ryan Andrews starts with some stories from last night's game, including the hamstring issue that banished Lourdes Gurriel from the Battle of the Brothers with his sibling Yuli, and a solid performance from Richard Urena. Andrews also looks ahead and talks about Sean Reid-Foley making his final start of the season against the defending champions.
The second segment sees Andrews start to discuss the reaction to Roberto Osuna's re-emergence for a save at Rogers Centre before news breaks that the Crown has dropped the case against him in favor of a one-year peace bond. The host is not happy with this turn of events, predictable as they were, and expresses frustration and anger at the result. They then thank the Blue Jays fans who were in attendance last night booing him, and the fans who shared their thoughts on social media.
Andrews ends with a brief acknowledgement of Marco Estrada, who made likely his last start for the Blue Jays. The Nova Scotian discusses Estrada's place in Toronto history and how they will remember the Magician who started as a swingman but became a legend.

A solid series against Tampa Bay gives way to some grappling with a return on today's episode!
Ryan Andrews begins by looking at the performances of the Blue Jays' rookie starters during the series against the Rays. Andrews notes the struggles Sean Reid-Foley had in maintaining control of his electric stuff in what will likely be his final start of the season. Contrasting that with Thomas Pannone's steady performance and it becomes clear what the 2019 pecking order is. Andrews also notes that while Pannone had a tough situation mentally on the mound in the third inning, coming through that may serve him well moving forward.
The second segment discusses Ryan Borucki's game effort against Blake Snell and details facets where the lefty can improve as he heads into an off-season where he knows he will be an MLB starter. Andrews also shakes their head at Jose Fernandez's series and locks the left in as next year's QEW specialist.
In the final segment, Andrews deals with the return of Roberto Osuna and the emotions that are brought up. The host makes it clear that they want no part of any kind of potential sympathy for the former closer, and discusses their Jays From the Couch article where they recommend a hearty chorus of boos be rained upon the domestic abuser.

It took some to recover, but Ryan Andrews is finally ready to talk about what happened last night, with your help!
The host tries to wrap their head around what exactly the Blue Jays managed to do in last night's stunning seven-run comeback in the ninth inning against the Rays. Recapping what occurred, Andrews waxes poetic about how innings like that can restore faith in baseball, and praises the youngsters (Dwight Smith Jr., Rowdy Tellez, Jonathan Davis, Danny Jansen and Lourdes Gurriel Jr.) as well as the steely veteran Justin Smoak, who delivered the final blow.
Sam Gaviglio is the focus of the second segment. Andrews cites Karen Soutar's assessment of Gaviglio as a future swingman for the Blue Jays and Roy Widrig's article on JaysFromTheCouch.com about the state of the 2019 Blue Jays rotation and where Gaviglio fits in. The bullpen also gets a look, complete with more praise for Tim Mayza and some for David Paulino as well.
Andrews closes with a discussion about the news that MLB has placed Addison Russell on administrative leave. The host draws parallels to the Roberto Osuna situation and stresses the need for MLB to start taking its domestic violence problems seriously.

Heading to the homestretch, literally, the Blue Jays are giving the host plenty of things to talk about!
Ryan Andrews spends the first segment discussing the performances from the 2-1 Blue Jays loss to the Orioles on Sept. 19. The host gives credit to Marco Estrada for delivering a start that the veteran right-hander needed to restablish some value heading into an off-season where he will be looking for a deal. However, Luis Rivera has earned ire once again for a terrible attempt to convert a Kendrys Morales fourth-inning fly ball into a sac fly. There was no reason for Billy McKinney to run there, and Andrews makes it known how they feel about Rivera's tenure.
Then, Andrews discusses Jerry Howarth's assertion that John Schneider would be his pick to manage the Blue Jays in 2019, citing Tampa Bay's Kevin Cash. Andrews agrees with the veteran radio man, particularly Schneider's ability to use the speed on his roster to greater effect than the big-league club.
Finally, Andrews previews the series opener against Tampa Bay. The Nova Scotian points out what they think is on the line for Sam Gaviglio and what his role will be for the Blue Jays in 2019. Yes he will have a role. Andrews also expects to see some more bullpen arms getting run, particularly Taylor Guerrieri against his former club.

It was a tough game to watch in parts but this podcast always tries to find the silver lining! Well, almost always.
Ryan Andrews picks apart the Blue Jays' fourth-straight win, starting with a disappointing outing for Aaron Sanchez. Andrews laments Sanchez's inability to control his strike zone, but offers a hearty cheer for the work of the bullpen. Praise comes for Jake Petricka, who had his fastball bending like Beckham, Jose Fernandez, who is cementing a 2019 Opening Day roster spot, Tyler Clippard and Blue Jays folk hero Ken Giles.
The second segment is dedicated to the disastrous defense that both teams played during the game. Billy McKinney gets some tough love for his efforts, but Andrews tempers it with praise for Lourdes Gurriel Jr. However, Jonathan Davis earns the host's ire for getting picked off of second base, and Andrews demands heads-up baserunning at all times.
Finally, Andrews looks ahead to tonight's start in what could be the last hurrah for Marco Estrada. Given his likely final turn against the Astros, Estrada needs to make tonight count according to the Nova Scotian, who also offers up a partial tribute to the Magician and his legacy as a Blue Jays hero.

On the night after one Ryan put up an amazing performance for the Blue Jays, it's up to another Ryan to match him!
Ryan Andrews opens the episode with by gushing about the start Ryan Borucki turned in against the already-relegated Orioles, and how the young lefty was able to assert himself on the mound. With performances like this, Andrews defies anyone who tells them that Borucki is not meant to be a fixture of the Blue Jays rotation for the foreseeable future and how important it is for the team to get pieces like Borucki into place.
The middle segment looks at the hitting the Blue Jays have gotten, and Andrews has praise for the likes of Rowdy Tellez, Danny Jansen, and yes, Kevin Pillar. The Nova Scotian notes how important it was for the younger bats to generate early runs without the help of the long ball, and how that approach is going to be crucial to the club's success. Jansen gets particular praise for stabilizing a position that has been a black hole offensively for the Blue Jays.
The final third looks ahead to tonight's second game against Baltimore, and starter Aaron Sanchez. Andrews stresses the importance of Sanchez continue the trends that they have shown in September, avoiding needless walks and getting back to setting up the fastball the way they did against the Red Sox, and how the Blue Jays will use the rest of the month getting Sanchez back into ace form. The lineup, particularly Justin Smoak gets a mention as likely options against Dylan Bundy.

The season is winding down for the Blue Jays but there is still plenty to celebrate and talk about!
Ryan Andrews dives into the first of a couple days' worth of topics from the Blue Jays' triumphant series against the Yankees in the Bronx. The starting pitching, outside of Marco Estrada, was great, and the host compares what Sean Reid-Foley and Thomas Pannone were able to do in their starts against New York. The two will likely be battling for a rotation spot in March, and Andrews declares who they believe has the inside track.
The second segment is dedicated to the legend that is Ken Giles. Andrews details how important the mercurial closer is for the Blue Jays and how he may be a better closer than the one the team traded. The fans agree and the Nova Scotian details how Giles can maintain his slot for the Blue Jays until they are contenders again.
The podcast closes with a discussion of the least-likeliest name to appear in a segment all on his own. But Mark Leiter Jr. has thrust himself into the 2019 bullpen conversation with some flashes of brilliance against Boston and New York. Does Andrews think the waiver claimee has a chance to stick around past the end of the season?

It is rare that one man is able to dominate an entire show, but special times call for special measures when it comes to last night's Blue Jays loss.
Host Ryan Andrews puts the alligator boots to Yangervis Solarte for his unacceptable effort on the eighth-inning pop-up that allowed the winning run to score to put the Red Sox over the Blue Jays. The normally pleasant Nova Scotian can not contain their rage at the continued lack of care Solarte has put on the field, and how damaging it is for his teammates, including younger players like Lourdes Gurriel Jr., Teoscar Hernandez and Danny Barnes.
The second segment is turned over to let the fans to get their licks in. Many fans agree that Solarte's lazy and lackadaisical play can not be tolerated by the Blue Jays and that he should be moved out as soon as the off-season hits.
The final segment sees Andrews address how best to remove Solarte from the picture. Andrews contrasts the option the Blue Jays have with him against Justin Smoak and with Brandon Drury, who is essentially Solarte with effort. The host comes to the conclusion that the buyout is the best option, and sites the Josh Donaldson saga as proof that is the direction the Blue Jays will take.

The summer rolls along and so does the intrepid host of this daily Blue Jays podcast!
Ryan Andrews dives into the main takeaway of the Blue Jays' tough 1-0 loss to the Red Sox the previous night, and that is the stellar start from Aaron Sanchez. The host analyzes the key's to Sanchez's success and how he can continue to recover his value by using his curveball as he did against Boston. It leads to an over-arching goal for the Blue Jays over the final 2 1/2 weeks.
The second segment is dedicated to some off-field stories of the past week. Andrews discusses why the Red Sox and Yankees need to shut up and stop complaining about the Josh Donaldson trade, before diving into the rumor that Mark Shapiro and Ben Cherington could be heading to the Mets. Fans of all three of these teams will not be pleased.
Andrews closes with a preview of the series finale against Boston, and what a successful start would look like for Sam Gaviglio. The Nova Scotian details what the swingman needs to do for the Blue Jays, while expressing hope that John Gibbons continues to give Rowdy Tellez and Billy McKinney all the playing time they can handle, especially against tough lefty Eduardo Rodriguez.
