Locked On Bruins - Daily Podcast On The Boston Bruins

The Boston Bruins recalled forward Georgii Merkulov and assigned forward Patrick Brown to Providence on Friday.

The recall is a much hyped move, and will only pay off if Merkulov is put in a position to keep cooking offensively.

The vibes around the team are much better following a win over the Buffalo Sabres to shake off a recent skid, and the Bruins have a chance to close out 2023 in a big way with weekend games coming up against Detroit and New Jersey.

It was the best and worst of times for the Boston Bruins in 2023. Unparalleled regular season success juxtaposed with a playoff collapse and a mass exodus of talent, including the retirements of franchise legends Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci.

Locked on Bruins host take3s a look back at the highs and lows, and how the 2023 Winter Classic kind of set the tone for the year.

Plus, what might 2024 have in store?

The Boston Bruins weren't exactly spreading holiday cheer by losing 4 straight heading into Christmas, and 5 of their past 6 overall.

Locked on Bruins host Ian McLaren discusses how the Minnesota Wild and Winnipeg Jets were going to be tough outs for anyone, and wonders whether this slump is cause for concern.

Certainly there are a number of players that need to pick up the pace offensively.

Plus, a look at what's ahead this week with 3 games on deck.

The Boston Bruins blew another third period lead in an overtime loss to the Minnesota Wild, but they too pulled even late on regulation to send it to the extra frame despite Marc Andre Fleury's vintage performance.

Jake DeBrusk was called out for poor decision making in OT, leading to questions about his lack of production this season and longterm outlook with the team.

On the plus side, Charlie McAvoy and Pavel Zacha returned to the lineup and David Pastrnak and Brad Marchand found the back of the net.

Plus, a dive into the history corner and some love for Raymond Bourque.

The Boston Bruins decided to send 19-year-old rookie center Matt Poitras to Sweden to play for Team Canada at the 2024 World Juniors.

Why did they make this decision, and is it the right call for the player and the Bruins?

Part of the decision may be based on the emergence of Morgan Geekie and the impending return of Pavel Zacha, who - along with Charlie McAvoy - could be back for Tuesday's game against the Minnesota Wild.

Plus, a quick look at the Eastern Conference Power Rankings!

The Boston Bruins took 3 of 4 points from back to back weekend games against the New York Islanders and New York Rangers. Key to earning those points was goaltending, and a league-leading duo of Jeremy Swayman and Linus Ullmark should not be broken up this season via trade.

Many are wondering why the likes of Georgii Merkulov and Fabian Lysell aren't being recalled in favor of Patrick Brown and Jesper Boqvist. Providence head coach Ryan Mougenel had some interesting things to say about Lysell in particular, while the NHL roster is already featuring some rather inexperienced players.

The Boston Bruins placed Pavel Zacha and Charlie McAvoy on IR, choosing to recall Patrick Brown and Parker Wotherspoon over some potentially more exciting options.

With the New York Islanders AND Rangers on deck this week, some more established guys will need to step up.

Looking at you, Jake DeBrusk, Morgan Geekie, Trent Fredericm, and Oskar Steen.

Note: After recording, Fluto Shinzawa of The Athletic reported tonight will be a scheduled game off for Matt Poitras. Bruins have not decided whether to make him available for World Juniors.

The Boston Bruins fell 2-1 to the New Jersey Devils thanks to an overtime beauty from Jack Hughes.

The loss came despite a strong effort from Jeremy Swayman in his return from an illness, and in a game where Morgan Geekie stepped up huge in Pavel Zacha's absence.

Quite simply, the Bruins didn't do enough to generate offense against a vulnerable Devils squad.

Plus, it appears as though Jakub Zboril's time with the Bruins has come to an end as he was waived and is looking for an opportunity elsewhere.
