Locked On Bruins - Daily Podcast On The Boston Bruins

The Boston Bruins are still the top team in the NHL's Eastern Conference (and the league at large), but the balance of power may be shifting a bit with the black and gold losing 4 of 5.

While the Carolina Hurricanes remain formidable in the Metro, Ian McLaren pinpoints a team to be that could very well come out of the East.

Plus, a look at some of the top names on the trade board with the deadline now less than 3 weeks away.

The Boston Bruins came out a bit flat after their 10-day break, losing 2-1 to the Washington Capitals.

They've lost 4 of 5 overall, and the big problem since the beginning of 2023 has been a lack of success on the power play, where the 2nd unit is really missing Jake DeBrusk.

Plus, Jakob Chychrun was scratched Saturday for trade related reasons - is Don Sweeney in on this?

The All-Star break / Boston Bruins bye week / host Ian McLaren's vacation is over, and it's back to business.

Priority #1 for Don Sweeney needs to be re-signing David Pastrnak, not only to secure one of the game's best players, but also to have a better sense of what can be done at the trade deadline.

The Bruins then must determine which players, picks and prospects can be floated prior to the trade deadline in an attempt to improve this team's chances of winning the Stanley Cup.

They're back in action tomorrow against the Washington Capitals, but still without Jake DeBrusk.

The 3-game losing streak is over and everyone fells better heading into the All-Star break and a bye week after beating the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The Boston Bruins got offense from some unlikely characters to get things going, then Pavel Zacha iced it with a pair in the third period.

There's no question the Bruins are the top team in the NHL at the moment, with the best chance of winning the Stanley Cup this spring.

First, some well deserved time off for all.

Whatever happens tonight in Toronto, the Boston Bruins know they're in a good spot.

"We're ecstatic with what our record is and how well we've consistently played," said Boston Bruins head coach Jim Montgomery on Tuesday.

BUT, beating the Maple Leafs tonight to avoid a 4-game losing streaking heading into the All-Star break and the bye week would be very nice, even if Auston Matthews is out of the lineup.

Ian McLaren previews the games, discusses Boston's mindset amid the losing streak, and brings you all the latest on the black and gold.

In a bit of a shocker, Bo Horvat was traded to the New York Islanders.

Ian McLaren breaks down the deal, and discusses what it means for the Boston Bruins.

It's a big name off the trade board at an asking price the Bruins weren't likely to meet, and thankfully he's not been traded to a true contender in the East (no offense, Islanders).

Plus, a look at the Eastern Conference power rankings and the Bruins are calling up a couple players for tomorrow's game against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The Boston Bruins have now lost 3 games in a row, and they've been defeated by three pretty good teams in the Tampa Bay Lightning, Florida Panthers, and Carolina Hurricanes.

"We talked about facing adversity at some point in the year and here we are," said Bruins captain Patrice Bergeron.

It all comes with the Bruins still firmly in first place, and with a long break coming up. Big picture? It's not that big of a deal ... yet.

The power play needs work, and some turnovers need to be cut down on, but, as Bergeron says, "We have to face that as a team together and roll up our sleeves and learn from what hasn't been there the last few games."

Next up: the Toronto Maple Leafs, then the All-Star break and a bye week.

Even with such a huge gap between the Boston Bruins and Montreal Canadiens in the standings, the emotion embedded in the rivalry was on display last night.

Canadiens goalie Sam Montembeault did his level best to keep his team in the game, but the Bruins wanted to win this one for their coach. Patrice Bergeron said the fact that Monreal-born Montgomery shared that this was a special one for him shows what kind of relationship he's building with the players.

Plus, Taylor Hall scored a goal he desperately needed, David Pastrnak posted a casual 4-point night, and jeremy Swayman continues to roll.

And a quick word on how to avoid becoming the 2019 Tampa Bay Lightning.
