Locked On Canadiens - Daily Podcast on the Montreal Canadiens

We discuss the Montreal Canadiens firing Stephan Waite and hiring Sean Burke as director of goaltending, and what we expect this means for Carey Price's play going forward. We start with the sequence of events and discuss the bizarre timing. We talk about what we learned from Marc Bergevin's press conference regarding this move. We discuss Sean Burke's past and career and readiness for the job. Finally, we talk about Carey Price himself and why everyone needs to stop losing their heads every time his name comes up in this market.

The Montreal Canadiens have finally snapped their losing streak, and collected their first win under new coach Dominique Ducharme! Scott and Laura break down the 3-1 victory over the Ottawa Senators including the new-look Alex Burrows power play, and a perfect penalty kill.

The hosts also discuss the strong shows of Jesperi Kotkaniemi, Joel Edmundson and Johnathan Drouin, while wondering if Ducharme can push them to the next level in their careers.

In today's episode, we cover:

The need for the Canadiens to stay out of the penalty box against Ottawa, especially in light of the inconsistent officiating in the NHL as a whole and the North Division in particular.

What it will take to get Carey Price and Phillip Danault going again.

Changes on the defense and offense that Dominique Ducharme has put into place already.

The second game in the Dominique Ducharme era was much better for the Montreal Canadiens....They still lost in overtime, but the team looked far better. Scott and Laura break down the game, and the team's overtime struggles this year.

They'll also check in on Cole Caufield and the Laval Rocket after a big week for both!

We recap the first game under the Dominique Ducharme regime and answer mailbag questions mostly centered around the Dominique Ducharme regime. The Canadiens did not magically improve overnight with a new head coach behind the bench but there were some glimmers of hope at the beginning of the game. As always, our Friday Mailbag has a variety of questions covering the Laval Rocket, jersey talk, special teams, the new coach, and more.

After another loss to the Ottawa Senators, the Montreal Canadiens fired head coach Claude Julien and associate coach Kirk Muller on Wednesday morning. While it was expected it leaves the Canadiens with a number of questions and problems to fix, Scott and Laura will take a look at and break down all of those in today's show.

-Was it the right time to fire Claude Julien?

-Despite being an elite 5v5 team, why were the Canadiens not able to adapt and get back on track?

-Is this going to fix the penalty kill and power play now?

The calls for Claude Julien to be fired are growing louder within the fanbase as the Canadiens have lost yet another game to the Ottawa Senators, this time in a shootout. Shea Weber had a good game but was understandably frustrated with the result. Brendan Gallagher's goal was disallowed due to goaltender interference and we debate that call. Plus: a discussion on defenseman deployment.

It's another day of Scott and Laura ranting about what is making the Montreal Canadiens so bad right now.

The hosts will look at:

-Is Claude Julien running out of creative options?

-Jake Allen has been good, but is Carey Price as bad as his stats suggest?

-Are the Canadiens ever going to fix the penalty kill or fire Kirk Muller?

We rant about the Montreal Canadiens losing to the Maple Leafs, and then losing to the Ottawa Senators in overtime, and discuss what they need to do going forward. Special teams killed them in both games, and Claude Julien made some bizarre deployment decisions. Plus, we rant, once again, about the NHL Department of Player Safety.

It's Friday, which means Scott and Laura are answering listener questions, but before that they've got a preview of the weekend games against Toronto and Ottawa.

Inside the mailbag there's questions on:

-Trading for Sidney Crosby

-Are Carey Price and Jake Allen bros?

-Are the Reverse Retros bad now?

-Plenty on Victor Mete

-And the Nemesis Question of the Week!
