Locked On Capitals - Daily Podcast On The Washington Capitals

The NHL’s Metro Division feels like the division in the most flux going into the 2024-25 season; the New York Islanders and Washington Capitals barely squeaked into last year’s playoffs, the Carolina Hurricanes lost some key talent, and the New York Rangers have a President’s Trophy to defend. In this special Locked On NHL Season Preview Round Table, Gil Martin (Locked On Islanders), Jon Chik (Locked On Rangers), Zach Martin (Locked On Hurricanes) and Dan Holmi (Locked On Capitals) discuss whether their teams can stay atop a division with some teams hungry to punch back into the postseason behind them. Can the Islanders continue to get by on goaltending? Can the Rangers repeat as the league’s best regular season team? Can Pierre-Luc Dubous ignite Alex Ovechkin and the Capitals? And can the Hurricanes keep their contention window open? All that, plus FanDuel points over/unders, biggest offseason additions, breakout players, and the threats to derail each team’s seasons.

The Washington Capitals made tough decisions during their off day, cutting their training camp roster and placing several players on waivers for reassignment to the AHL's Hershey Bears, including Ethen Frank, Alex Limoges, Riley Sutter, Chase Priskie, and Hardy Häman Aktell. Ethen Frank's underwhelming preseason performance led to his potential move to the AHL, while Alex Limoges, Riley Sutter, Chase Priskie, and Hardy Häman Aktell also face potential reassignment. Notable names still on the Capitals' roster include Jakub Vrana, Ivan Miroshnichenko, Andrew Cristall, and Henrik Rybinski, while competition for roster spots intensifies for players like Sonny Milano, Andrew Cristall, and Dylan McIlrath.
