Locked On Capitals - Daily Podcast On The Washington Capitals

In this edition of Locked on Capitals Dan talks about Ryan Leonard's 4-point game the help lift the Boston College Eagles over the Michigan Tech Huskies. Through 58 games has 29 goals and 29 assists for 58 points. Today's game marked Leonard's seventh multi-point game of the season and sixth multi-assist game of the year. Later Dan talks about the goalie situations for the Capitals. Charlie Lindgren has played so well that he is the number one goalie for the Capitals. The problem is that their "backup" is Darcy Kuemper and has played 500 hockey this season. Would the Capitals be better off with Hunter Shepard or Clay Stevenson on the team? Then Dan talks about John Carlson's 1000th game Saturday against the Bruins.

In this edition of Locked on Capitals Dan talks about the Capitals loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Caps have fallen to the Leafs every time they've face them this season. Nic Dowd was the only Cap to find the back of the net. The Caps were outshot, outworked and simply outplayed by the Maple Leafs. Despite the box score the Charlie Lindgren did his best to play superman and save the Capitals; but even Chalie couldn't save the Capitals tonight. The Caps were coming off big wins over the Red Wings, Jets and Hurricanes. The Capitals hope to turn it around vs Boston.

In this edition of Locked on Capitals Dan talks about Ethan Bear entering the NHLPA's player assistance program and what that means for Ethan and the Capitals. Ethan hasn't found an everyday role on the Caps, but we hope he gets the help he needs. Vinny Iorio gets the call to fill the roster spot Ethan left. With Sonny Milano out due to injury Matthew Phillips gets the call up before the Caps head to Toronto. Later Dan talks about how Dylan Strome has been the consistent goal scorer the Caps were looking for - even in the beginning of the season when he was pretty much the only one scoring goals. LAter Dan talks about how it appears as though the Caps will be staying in Washington DC

In this edition of Locked on Capitals Dan talks about the Capitals overtime win over the Detroit Red Wings. It was a back-and-forth game that required overtime for the Caps to get the win. Dylan Strome continues to be the biggest offensive weapon in the Capitals arsenal. Dylan had two goals on the night including the OT game winner. Nic Dowd and Connor McMichael also found the back of the net. Charlie Lindgren continues to be one of the best netminder in the NHL as he saved 30 of 33 There's a lot of hype and surprise surround the Capital as many didn't have them circled as being a playoff contender. The youth and the veterans continue to find a way to get it done.

In this edition of Locked on Capitals Dan talks about how Alex Ovechkin is heating up at just the right time and helping lead the team play their best hockey of the season. But how is he getting it done? Alex Ovechkin got off to his slowest start in his entire career. After the All-Star break he was a changed man and really stepped up his goal scoring power. And as Alex Ovechkin goes - so goes the Capitals and one of the biggest thing's is that He is now only 47 goals shy of passing the great one Wayne Gretzky. Later Dan talks about how Spencer Carbery is the perfect coach for the Capitals right now. After a slow start he's pushing the right buttons to get the most out of this team. He has them in a playoff position and that seemed unlikely earlier in the season

In this edition of Locked on Capitals Dan talks about the Capitals shutting out the Winnipeg Jets by a score of 3-0. The last time the Caps played the Jets they got shutout by 3-0. Alex Ovechkin scored two goals as he is just hitting his stride. John Carlson also found the back of the net. A great win for the Capitals as Caps fans celebrated TJ Oshie's 1000th game at Capital One Arean. This game did see the return of Oshie and Protas. Charlie Lindgren continues to be a rockstar between the pipes as he shot down Winnipeg's Jet. The Capitals (35-26-9, 79 pts. in 70 GP) now lead the Detroit Red Wings (36-29-6, 78 pts. in 71 GP) by one point for the final Wild Card position in the Eastern Conference with one game in hand.

In this edition of Locked on Capitals Dan talks about the Capitals shootout win over the Carolina Hurricanes by a score of 7-6. Sonny Milano scored a hat trick; Alex Ovechkin scored a net front goal and Connor McMichael also scored in the third period. The Game went to the shootout and after 5 rounds - Dylan Strome found the back of the net. Darcy Kuemper got only his second start in the month of March and got pulled. Charlie Lindgren has taken over the number one goalie job for quite some time - The Caps were looking to keep Kuemper fresh and ready to go. This was only Darcy's second game in November. This however was not one of his better games and one that Darcy will want to forget.

In this edition of Locked on Capitals Dan talks about the possible lengthy suspension that Tom Wilson is facing. It's said that it could be for more than 5 days. That's not an ideal situation for a team that's already minus Oshie and Protas. Tom Wilson Offered In-Person Hearing For High Sticking Noah Gregor. After an initial hit, he took an extra swing with his stick, hitting Gregor in the head. He received a double-minor on the play. Later Dan talks about GM Brian Maclellan's initial thoughts on head coach Spencer Carbery .But in a recent 32 thoughts column Elliotte Friedman said that when had a conversation with MacLellan at the recent GM meetings in Florida that he had some differences with the way Carbery wanted his team to play defensively. In this edition of Locked on Capitals Dan talks about the Capitals loss to the Maple Leafs. Auston Matthews got on the board within the first 17 seconds of the game. Matthews would go on to score 2 goals in the game. The Capitals had some pushback in the first and second periods, but the wheel started to wobble for the Capitals towards the end of the second period and the Capitals spent too much time in the penalty box. Alex Ovechkin scored two goals on the night and Connor McMichael found twine for the Caps offensive contribution. Charlie Lindgren didn't play his best game and the Caps lost a game they really should've won.

Caps win 5-2

Caps are coming off big wins over the Kraken and the Canucks after dropping two tough losses to the Jets and Oilers

The Capitals went 3-2-0 on their five-game road trip, winning three-straight games to improve to 33-25-9 (75 pts.) on the season.

Caps are back into playoff position. With 2 standing pts, the Caps passed DET into the second wild card spot. Lindgren made 34 stops. Carlson blocked 4 shots and was clutch

But I believe the Caps are finding their identity and riding the wave of momentum.

Jensen/Sandin concern

Washington's power play also now has goals in 10 of the last 12 games.

Making his ninth start in 10 games, Lindgren stopped 34 of 36 shots for the win

Forecheck pressure was huge tonight

Sonny Milano has 10 points in 13 games since returning from the upper-body injury that held him out for over two months.
