After day one of free agency, things have been silent amongst the New Jersey Devils organization. I think Tom Fitzgerald is trying to strategize the next couple of steps for the team. However, I do have my concerns. Also, Andrew Brunette might take Lindy Ruff's job in about a year given his success for the Florida Panthers.

The New Jersey Devils went with their plan B option and signed Ondrej Palat to a 5-year $30 million ($6 million AAV) contract. While he might not be the most flashy player in the NHL, he can definitely still be a huge help for the Devils both on the rink and in the locker room. In addition to his signing, Simon Nemec signed his entry level contract. So, the future is now for New Jersey.

Unfortunately, the New Jersey Devils weren't able to select Juraj Slafkovsky. But instead of selecting Logan Cooley or Shane Wright, the elected to draft a defenseman. They ended up selecting Simon Nemec (Slovakia) with the second overall pick in the 2022 NHL Draft. He's gonna be project, but he has a lot of upside. Also, Alex DeBrincat was recently traded away at a cheap price. I have some questions for the Devils as free agency nears.

PK Subban has been hanging around Jack Hughes a lot lately. Maybe he's trying whatever it takes to remain with the New Jersey Devils organization. Given his leadership and track history, maybe the Devils should re-sign him to a cheaper deal. Also, Bob McKenzie said in his mock draft that Juraj Slafkovsky will go first overall in the NHL Draft over Shane Wright. Maybe the Devils will get lucky.
