Locked On Falcons - Daily Podcast On The Atlanta Falcons

Atlanta Falcons quarterback Desmond Ridder is trending in the right direction after the last few weeks. Host Aaron Freeman explains why he sees the glass as half full with Ridder's recent progress based on his ability to execute an "advanced level" of the offense. Later, he discusses how much patience is needed with Ridder's development for the rest of the season. He also discusses whether or not Ridder can accomplish something that Marcus Mariota was unable to last year once the Falcons were atop the NFC South in the middle of the season.

Finally, he looks at the Falcons defense, it's "clutch" factor, and the parallels it has with the 2017 Falcons defense. He breaks down the likelihood of the team making a big trade for a defensive end ahead of the trade deadline.

Atlanta Falcons quarterback Desmond Ridder has shown clear signs of growth in recent weeks, but turnovers continue to plague him. After a game with three interceptions in Week 6, Ridder fumbled three times in the Falcons' Week 7 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Host Aaron Freeman and guest Miles Garrett (@fox5atlanta) discuss if through the ups and downs, the glass is half empty or half full in regards to Ridder's performances. Should we focus more on the good or the bad?

They also discuss another standout defensive performance from the Falcons vs. the Buccaneers, as well as the return of the physical ground attack that racked up 156 yards on the ground in Tampa.

Arthur Smith and the Atlanta Falcons were able to establish their running game against a stout run defense in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Also, they did it without superstar running back Bijan Robinson getting limited touches. David Onyemata and Calais Campbell lead the way on defense, establishing themselves up front all game. Tenitra Batiste, Tori McElhaney, Aaron Freeman, and Jarvis Davis talked about what their big takeaway was from the 16-13 win in Tampa Bay. Secondly, even though Desmond Ridder didn’t throw any interceptions, he did have three fumbles that came at crucial moments in the game. The team talked about whether or not they were concerned or confident about losing the turnover battle. Lastly, the team wrapped things up by talking about Campbell receiving an interesting compliment from the opposing quarterback. Also, they looked ahead to the next five games for the Atlanta Falcons.

The Atlanta Falcons pulled off the 16-13 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with a walk-off game-winning field goal from kicker Younghoe Koo. It was an ugly win, but the team still sits pretty at 4-3 atop the NFC South standings with this victory. Host Aaron Freeman breaks down why the run game (156 yards) and defense came through in a major way for the Falcons to get them the W.

He also breaks down the frustrating ups and downs of quarterback Desmond Ridder, who despite showing progress from previous outings on the road, still continues to turn the ball over at an alarming rate. He breaks down why Ridder’s third fumble was the unforgivable. He also discusses Bijan Robinson’s absence from the game.

The Atlanta Falcons found a way to get a win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with a last second field goal by Younghoe Koo. The Falcons defense was the story of the game because outside of an early touchdown catch by Mike Evans, Ryan Nielsen's guys held them in check. Desmond Ridder had three fumbles as he is still dealing with turning the football over. Tenitra Batiste, Aaron Freeman and Jarvis Davis broke it all down on the Locked on Falcons POSTCAST.

he Atlanta Falcons offensive line will have their hands full trying to block the Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive front in Week 7. Host Aaron Freeman and guest Jarvis Davis (@LockedOnATL) discuss if this offensive line can continue to make the strides in recent weeks against a formidable Bucs front that features defensive tackle Vita Vea, who has routinely given them problems over the years. The Falcons pass protection has improved, but now the team needs their run game to get back on track and it won’t be easy this week.

Later, they discuss the Falcons’ pass rush and whether or not last week’s five-sack performance against the Washington Commanders is a big step in the right direction or just a one-off from a very favorable matchup. They discuss whether the Falcons can feast on Baker Mayfield and the Bucs offensive line in the same ways they did Sam Howell and the Commanders.

Finally, they break down the Falcons recent roster moves of releasing safety Jaylinn Hawkins and bringing back wide receiver Damiere Byrd on the practice squad.

The Atlanta Falcons must prove themselves on the road in their Week 7 matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Hosts Aaron Freeman and James Yarcho (@LockedOnBucs) break down the key stories for both teams, including whether or not either can overcome Week 6 losses. They discuss the Falcons road woes dating back to last year and if first-year starting quarterback Desmond Ridder can jumpstart this offense.

The Falcons most overcome a formidable Bucs interior defensive front featuring Vita Vea, Joe Tryon-Shoyinka, and Calijah Kancey and create opportunities on the perimeter for playmakers like Bijan Robinson, Drake London, and Kyle Pitts. The Falcons secondary must also deal with Bucs playmakers like Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, and Trey Palmer. Falcons defensive tackle David Onyemata might also be among the Falcons most important players in this matchup due to the ways he can disrupt Bucs quarterback Baker Mayfield. Later, they discuss keys to victory and give final score predictions.

While the bulk of the criticisms for the Atlanta Falcons Week 6 loss have been laid at the feet of head coach Arthur Smith and quarterback Desmond Ridder, host Aaron Freeman breaks down why he thinks the team's struggles in the run game are their biggest issue.

He explains why his issues with Smith's play-calling and Ridder's decision-making are secondary to his concerns over the Falcons rushing attack. And while it needs to go from ordinary to elite this season.

Later, he discusses what the all-22 film from Week 6 showed him in regards to the team's improving pass rush, dime defense, and special teams breakdowns.

The Atlanta Falcons lost in frustrating fashion to the Washington Commanders in Week 6. Does this fit in with a positive or negative trend for the team this season? Host Aaron Freeman asks his guest Josh Kendal (@TheAthletic) that very question to get to th heart of the team's inconsistency issues. Is it youth or is it something deeper?

Later, they discuss some encouraging things from the Week 6 loss and look ahead to some of the challenges facing the Falcons in their Week 7 matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Aaron closes out the show discussing the possibility of the Falcons making a trade to shore up their defensive tackle depth as opposed to their defensive end position.
