Locked On Falcons - Daily Podcast On The Atlanta Falcons

Atlanta Falcons edge closer to naming Tua Tagovailoa their Week 1 starter after his best training camp yet. Is a true quarterback competition with Michael Penix still possible, or is it already Tua’s job to lose? Aaron Freeman breaks down Kevin Stefanski’s timeline for a QB1 announcement and explores if Tommy Rees and the current wide receiver corps can match the support Tua once had in Miami.

Rookie linebackers Kendal Daniels and Harold Perkins take center stage as they fill in for the injured Divine Deablo, sparking talk of a potential shift toward a 4-3 defense. The conversation digs into the impact of Daniels’ green dot responsibilities, the benefits of early reps for these young talents, and how defensive scheme changes might unlock the Falcons’ linebacker depth. Plus, Ethan Onianwa’s first-team right tackle reps raise questions about Atlanta’s long-term plans on the offensive line.

Atlanta Falcons face a make-or-break 2026: can their locked-in core finally deliver a playoff berth, or is another year of déjà vu and quarterback purgatory looming? Host Aaron Freeman warns that after paying big contracts to Kyle Pitts and Matthew Bergeron, there’s no turning back, where anything short of the postseason, or securing a high draft pick for a true franchise quarterback, spells trouble for this regime.

Fresh roster moves add urgency, with Jawaan Taylor returning at right tackle and Cam Sample joining a defensive line that could shift to a 4-3 scheme. The discussion highlights Bijan Robinson and Drake London’s proven value, skepticism around repeating failed quarterback fixes, and why next year’s draft class might be Atlanta’s last best shot at landing a star signal-caller. Will the Falcons finally break their cycle of mediocrity, or is the window for real change closing fast?

Atlanta Falcons face a pass rush crisis as Jalon Walker's season-ending injury exposes depth concerns. Can anyone step up to save the defense? Aaron Freeman and Jarvis Davis (Locked On Georgia Tech) debate whether any free agent edge rusher can meaningfully impact the Falcons’ sack totals after last season's franchise record. The conversation highlights regression worries and the need for a committee approach, with Harold Perkins poised for a bigger role.

The hosts also break down the Locked On NFL Top 100, spotlighting Bijan Robinson’s contentious No. 11 ranking and James Pearce’s surprising appearance at No. 90. Do national perceptions and Atlanta’s lack of playoff relevance hurt player rankings? Plus, the duo analyzes Tua Tagovailoa and Michael Penix’s low marks in The Athletic's annual QB tiers, questioning if NFL execs are overlooking Atlanta’s upside. Can the Falcons rally behind a new defensive identity—and does the league still underestimate their stars?

Bijan Robinson secures a record-breaking payday, but the real story is how the Atlanta Falcons balance immediate cap flexibility with future financial risks. Could this bold contract engineered by cap strategist Bryce Johnston set the stage for a true NFC contender, or will the gamble haunt Atlanta if postseason success fails to materialize?

Aaron Freeman breaks down the intricacies of Robinson’s $75 million deal, revealing why its structure is surprisingly team-friendly in the short term but could lock the Falcons into tough financial decisions by 2029. Key insights include parallels to Christian McCaffrey and the 49ers, the role Michael Penix and Tua Tagovailoa could play in the Falcons’ championship pursuit, and how cap strategy might leave Atlanta with limited flexibility if they don’t build a winning roster fast. Are the Falcons just kicking the cap can down the road, or are they assembling a legitimate contender around their young star?
