Locked On Islanders - Daily Podcast On The New York Islanders

Asset management is critical in the NHL since the salary cap era began and today we break down how Lou Lamoriello and the New York Islanders failed to maximize the value of center J.G. Pageau. We analyze what his value is now, what it was not too long ago and why the Isles dropped the ball on this particular player.

Plus we discuss former Isles first round pick Kyle Okposo's first trip to the Stanley Cup Finals with the Florida Panthers and the future of former Isles coaches Jack Capuano and Lane Lambert.

And we continue our player by player look at the season as we break down Bo Horvat's 2023-24 season and what to expect from him next season and beyond.

The New York Islanders have two defensemen out of their top four who are eligible to sign contract extensions after July 1st of this year. Will Lou Lamoriello sign Noah Dobson and Alexander Romanov to new deals now or will he wait and risk losing them or seeing the price go up? And, how does potential extensions for these two change the team's approach to adding offensive talent?

Plus we discuss Pat LaFontaine and why he still isn't in the New York Islanders Hall of Fame. This is an injustice that the team's owners should be fixing as soon as possible as LaFontaine is very deserving of that honor.

And we discuss Hudson Fasching's season as we continue our look at every player on the Islanders roster. What did Fasching do well this season and what needs work and what role can we expect him to play on the Isles next season?

Plus if you want to join me and other Isles fans in person for a Stanley Cup Finals watch party, please go to https://lockedonislanders.wordpress.com/ to express your interest and availability.

Today we answer your mailbag questions as we try to get inside the mind of Lou Lamoriello and discuss why the team is where they are. Plus we discuss some different ideas to help improve the New York Islanders both short-term and long term.

The Isles also hired a new goaltending supervisor and a new goalie coach for Bridgeport on Thursday.

Can the New York Islanders acquire a pending RFA who can make the team younger, faster and more skilled? And he wouldn't break the bank either? That player is Carolina Hurricanes forward Martin Necas. We discuss the pros and cons of trading for Necas, what he would cost and what other moves Lou Lamoriello would have to make to get him.

Plus the Islanders lose their supervisor of goaltending Mitch Korn. We discuss what that will mean for Ilya Sorokin, Semyon Varlamov and the rest of the goalies in the organization.

And we continue our player by player review of the team with defenseman Robert Bortuzzo. What was his role, how did he do and what is his possible future with the team like?

New York Islanders captain Anders Lee won the King Clancy Memorial Trophy on Wednesday for his leadership on the ice and in the community. This is a well deserved award for Lee and we discuss what he does in the community and his Jam Kancer in the Kan charity. Lee has helped raise money for college scholarships in honor of the late Fenov Pierre-Louis who passed away at the age of 17 from cancer.

Plus, we discuss an honor for former Isles captain Kenny Jonsson and where the Isles fell on a survey of the most hostile fans in the NHL and the answer may surprise you.

And we continue our player-by-player look at the Isles roster with Cal Clutterbuck. We discuss his season both the numbers and his contributions to the team plus what his future with the team would be IF Lou Lamoriello opts to re-sign him.

Today we review the New York Islanders cap situation and why it's important for the team to create more cap space as we answer a mailbag question.

Then, we explore some potential free agents the Isles may be able to sign for a little less money that could allow the Isles to sign two top six forwards this offseason rather than one.

And we continue our player by player look at the Islanders with Adam Pelech. We'll review his season and discuss his likely role on the team in 2024-25.

Nearly everybody recognizes that the New York Islanders need to make some moves this offseason if they hope to become a true contender for the Stanley Cup next year. But because of cap constraints and bad contracts, they will almost certainly have to trade away a key contributor to the team to make that possible. Would that include possibly trading Ilya Sorokin before his no trade clause kicks in on July 1st? Lou Lamoriello almost certainly won't trade him, but we'll discuss why the idea isn't as crazy as it first sounds.

Plus we discuss Scott Mayfield's season and future with the Isles after he endured an injury plagued and disappointing year. And we discuss Brock Nelson's performance for Team USA at the World Championships.

We'll break down how we got to this point and discuss some of the players who could help the team at the NHL level down the road. In addition, we analyze how Lou Lamoriello can help improve the team's situation in this area.

We also continue our player-by-player look at the Isles season with Anders Lee. How did the captain fare this season and what role will he play on the team if he returns for 2024-25.

And we have more on Maxim Tsyplakov as a former Isles player who was his teammate in the KHL discusses how he'll likely fit in to the North American game.
