Plus, we preview tonight's key divisional matchup with Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals and discuss the latest on Scott Mayfield's possible return and some potential line changes.

All this and more on today's Locked On Islanders Podcast with Gil Martin.

The New York Islanders are 4-2-2 after eight games which puts them on pace for 102.5 points for the season. Today we look at some reasons for hope and some reasons for concern through eight games. We discuss the fast start of Kyle Palmieri and the entire Brock Nelson, Pierre Engvall and Palmieri line.

We also look at reasons for concern including the high volume of shots and quality scoring opportunities this team has allowed and the leads they given up as a result. The Islanders can't afford to have their best player, Ilya Sarokin, worn down because he's facing too many shots.

We also have the latest on the status of injured defenseman Scott Mayfield and our Weekly Farm Report on all things Bridgeport Islanders.

The New York Islanders held a 2-0 lead in the 3rd period at home against the Detroit Red Wings but defensive breakdowns cost them and they lost 4-3 in OT. Ilya Sorokin was strong in net and both Bo Horvat and Noah Dobson had a goal and an assist but it wasn't enough to overcome the defensive breakdowns in the final 22 minutes of the game.

This was a milestone game for Casey Cizikas who also scored an impressive SH goal.

We have our key takeaways and our hero and goat of the game as well as the latest on Scott Mayfield and his health.

The New York Islanders edged the Ottawa Senators 3-2 but it wasn't easy. They had to overcome the Sens and their own sloppy play. The Islanders gave Ottawa eight power plays in this game but killed off seven of them. We'll discuss the strong play of Bo Horvat, Ilya Sorokin and Noah Dobson plus what the team needs to clean up.

We'll also discuss the scary moment when Erik Brannstrom was injured after taking a hard but clean hit from Cal Clutterbuck.

We'll have our hero and goat of the game and preview the Islanders road game Saturday against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

We break down the numbers and explain the situation. We also have a full preview of tonight's game against the Ottawa Senators and break down the Isles keys for victory and discuss the struggles on special teams and with structure as well. The New York Islanders gave a much better effort but made too many mistakes to beat a fast and talented Colorado Avalanche team. We have our key takeaways from the game including the minute that hurt the Isles the most. Plus, Ilya Sorokin had a career first which was not good but also not his fault.

We look at line changes Lane Lambert made and have our hero and goat of the game. We also discuss how the Isles can get back on the winning track and what they can build on from this game.

Plus we have our weekly Farm Report as we talk all things Bridgeport Islanders.

The New York Islanders return to action tonight against the Colorado Avalanche. Head coach Lane Lambert made changes to the team's forward lines at practice Monday, I'll explain why I'm less than thrilled with the changes that were made.

Plus we have a full preview of tonight's game against Colorado including the keys to victory and what makes the Avs so difficult to play against.

And we discuss two Isles players who I am concerned about after the first four games of the season. Even though it's early, Anders Lee and Oliver Wahlstrom are causing a little concern, we'll tell you why.

The New York Islanders picked up one point in two losses this weekend, falling to the New Jersey Devils in OT on Friday and to the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday in regulation. We break down what we saw in those two games, discuss the highlights and what this team needs to clean up to get back on the winning track.

We also discuss the season debuts of Julien Gauthier, Oliver Wahlstrom and Semyon Varlamov and the strong goaltending of Ilya Sorokin.

And why the Isles are taking so many foolish penalties.
