Locked On Mets - Daily Podcast On The New York Mets

A report suggests that the Mets may not view themselves as a top landing spot for Shohei Ohtani, making Yoshinobu Yamamoto their top target in free agency instead.

Host Ryan Finkelstein continues to break down why Yamamoto is the ideal fit for the Mets to invest heavily in and also why Ohtani does not make too much sense.

Finally, Craig Counsell reportedly had no interest in joining the Mets.

Pete Alonso's name keeps on getting circulated in trade rumors, but Mets president of baseball operations again threw cold water on any of that speculation by affirming that Alonso is expected to be the Opening Day first baseman.

Stearns has also met with Alonso's new agent, Scott Boras, who has let it be known that they are open to talking contract extension.

Host Ryan Finkelstein breaks down why Alonso is going to stay put this offseason and how a contract could come together, but doesn't have to for him to stay long-term.

Seven free agents received the qualifying offer this offseason. Are any of them worth the draft picks the Mets would forfeit to sign them?

Host Ryan Finkelstein makes the case for and against signing each of these top free agents.

Shohei Ohtani is a no-brainer, but the same can't be said for Cody Bellinger or Matt Chapman.

Also, which pitcher out of Aaron Nola, Blake Snell, Sonny Gray, and Josh Hader is most worth giving up the draft picks and international bonus pool money to sign?

The Chicago Cubs shocked the baseball world when they came out of left field to nab Craig Counsell to become their new manager. The Mets in turn pivoted and hired their fallback option, Carlos Mendoza.

Are the Mets better off without Counsell, knowing that he probably never wanted to come to New York in the first place?

Host Ryan Finkelstein breaks down the fallout Counsell's decision and why Mendoza is a solid fit to take the position to work alongside David Stearns in this new era of Mets baseball.

Also, Adam Ottavino declined his player option. How much will the bullpen feel his loss in 2024?
